Story
Sneezy is one of a litter of seven kittens who were named after the Seven Dwarves. she is very shy and, while curious and always comes over to her foster parents when they come into the room, tends to shy away from being touched, except when she is sleepy, in which case she loves being pet. She will need an adopter who is patient with her and allows her to feel safe on her own terms. She is very playful and loves toys, especially wand-style toys. She is bonded with her sister, Happy, and feels safer when they are together, so they must be adopted together. The total fee for adopting both is $550.  May 20, 2025, 10:40 pm

Story
Trouble is a very pretty, sweet, playful, friendly, and incredibly affectionate girl who has had a number of litters of kittens. She was surrendered to us along with her most recent litter and she was a wonderful mommy to them. Thankfully, she is now spayed and will not have to go through that again. It's time for her to experience some of the love and care she showed to her babies. She is very loving and wants to be near her humans. She is young and still loves to play and also loves to snuggle with her humans and purr up a storm. She would make a great family cat and should adapt well to just about any household.May 18, 2025, 8:37 pm

Story
Marmalade is part of our promotion to find adoptive homes for mothers who recently raised litters of kittens. Their kittens all get adopted but the moms are usually left behind. Marmalade gave birth to a litter of 4 kittens on May 10th. she was a wonderful mom to them and is now looking for someone to love her forever and show her the care and affection that she gave to her babies. She is very sweet and friendly and would be a great family cat. With a slow introduction, she should adapt well to dogs or other cats.

Story
Charlie is looking for a Hero adopter. He will be a nice companion to your resident cat or can go home with his friend Spencer. These cats will live in your home but do not want to be touched at all. They are looking for a nice quiet home to call their own. They have been waiting long enough and just want a new home for the new year. Hoarder cats are House Spirits - very shy with people. They live in your home, but are rarely seen - visitors will never see them. They are cats who live with you, and who may sometimes grant you the opportunity to touch them. Or, they may not. Here's what to expect with these special cats: These cats WILL: They're great with other cats! They are used to living with many cats, and are excellent companions for other cats. Over time, they will most likely get used to one or two people who will be allowed to touch them. They may choose to hang out near you, or sleep on the bed with you at night. They are a great choice for patient, kind people with a quiet household, who want to make a difference for an individual cat - one that few people have the patience to help. They are a fine choice for situations where you don't have a lot of time to devote to a pet - most of these kitties do not need or want much attention from people. These cats will not: They will not magically turn into normal acting cats; what you see is what they will be like for a long time, maybe always. Some will change more than others, but be prepared for what you see now. They will not be a good choice for busy homes. This cat has specific litterbox needs. When you bring this cat home they will need to be set up in a room by themselves. This cat will go home with a behavior plan that you will need to follow in order for them to use the litterbox reliably. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Story
Noel is what is known as a "Spirit Cat." This means that she was born outdoors and did not receive human contact in her first 2 crucial months of life, making her wary of people. She is playful, curious, and comfortable in a house but she may never be a lap cat. Seh like to jump up on her foster mom's bed while her foster mom reads before bed but will not yet let any people touch her willingly. Noel loves other cats and needs a cat companion in her home. She would love to be adopted with her friend Madonna, another Spirit Cat in her foster home, and we would offer a discount for adopting both together. However, Noel would do well in any home with a young, playful cat (she really loves her foster home's pet cat and cuddles with him whenever she has the chance). Noel would be great for a home with a cat who is lonely and in need of a friend, with adopters who are looking for a low-maintenance cat who needs very little from humans. Noel is exceptionally beautiful, with a very unique and pretty swirly pattern.    May 19, 2025, 5:24 pm
