Story
Meet Aidan! This old man came to us as a stray. When we posted him as a found cat, people thought his bent ear was an ear tip. It appears that way, but the tip of his ear bends back. At 16 years old, Aidan is not impressed by much, nor is he interested in much. His two favorite things are: Naptime and Feeding Time. Aidan is not infatuated by toys, he does not care much for catnip. He is sometimes interested in being patted, but most of the time he is just a typical grumpy elderly fella. Let him live in your space in peace, do his own thing, and you will get along great. He is looking for a home without any other pets or children, and preferably just one person. Aidan can get overwhelmed around a lot of people, and overstimulates extremely easily. He is not a cat that enjoys being picked up, carried, or much handling in general. He enjoys his treats- temptations are his favorite. Aidan has kidney disease, and is on a canned food only diet. He refuses to eat any kidney or renal diet canned food. If you are interested in caring for this senior in his final years, fill out the inquiry form below!

Story
Do you like things in life that are bit on the spicier side? Then Stewy is the girl for you! Long story about her name - just think rock star Stevie Nicks. Human hands have not always been kind to Stewy and when she was first rescued she wasn't feeling great either. But now she is eating like a champ and has adjusted well to her foster home. UPDATE: Stewy has come a long way since coming into her foster home. If her foster mom puts her hand down and lets her sniff it, Stewy will rub against it and happily accept gentle pats. You just have to be okay that it's on her terms! She will need a cat savvy adopter who can read her body language and respect her boundaries. She is a playful 3 year old who loves her soft toys, enjoys her big cardboard scratcher, and so smart that she figured out how to get treats from a treat ball the first time right off the bat. When she becomes comfortable in her new home she enjoys just hanging around with her family. Then she becomes very chatty and loves to tell you a story as she follows you around. Stewy may not be everyone's cup of tea perhaps, but surely there is someone out there who can give her a loving forever home. When you have earned her trust and she lets you pat her it is so rewarding to see her safe and loved. If you are interested in finding out more about Stewy, please fill out an application on our website by copying and pasting the following link into your browser. http://bit.ly/2JnZqK5 Stewy is being fostered in Worcester and her adoption fee is $225.

Story
Mistletoe is an itty bitty senior lady who wants kisses, pets, and affection all year round! We estimate this dainty tortie at around 7 years old (although her teeth are in such good shape we first thought she was 2), but she certainly does not act her age. Instead of taking long mid-day naps, she follows you wherever you go, hoping you'll feed her some more food. Eventually she finally gives up on that venture and you'll find her right next to you on the couch, behind you in your chair, or even taking a nap by (and on!) your laptop as you work from home. While she tolerates being picked up, she much prefers being in close vicinity to humans and more of a "all in your space" cat instead of a lap cat. When she's not begging for affection, she gets along well with her two foster cat brothers and would enjoy being in a home with a younger cat - playing in a tunnel with small mouse toys have taken up *many* evenings. She's the perfect example of how a cat with FIV+ can live a wonderful life with other cats. Lastly, this little lady has reached a significant milestone recently: remission from diabetes. To continue this status, it's best she stays on prescription diabetic cat food (higher in protein!) and has her blood glucose tested periodically, which is very easy to do at home. She is easy to handle, though a bit on the squirmy side! This friendly and sociable little cat is perfect for anyone ready to receive some purrs and loving immediately! If you are interested in finding out more about Mistletoe, please fill out an application on our website by copying and pasting the following link into your browser. http://bit.ly/2JnZqK5 Mistletoe is being fostered in Belmont and her adoption fee is $150. Story
Meet Louis and Diamond! These two young cats are the best of friends. Diamond is a beautiful black and white kitten, who is now about 9 months old. He's playful and sweet; he loves to curl up next to his people on the couch, but also loves to play. Louis is a snugglebug at home! Approximately 2 years old, the sights and sounds of PetSmart a little overwhelming for him, preferring to stay in his corner while Diamond greets guests. But when the two were in a foster home, he quickly came out of his shell, sitting on laps and curling up next to people and his best buddy Diamond. These two boys truly love each other, and are looking for a family to love. You can't go wrong by adopting these two love bugs! They are currently in our adoption center at the Cambridge PetSmart at Fresh Pond Mall. Visiting hours are Tues-Fri 6-8 pm and Sat/Sun 12-2 pm. If you are interested in adopting Louis and Diamond, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: http://bit.ly/2JnZqK5

Supporters and Recurring Giving Donors will be put on our VIP Application List &#226&#128&#139 Adoption Costs and other important information. If you are interested in adopting from Sterling Animal Shelter, please submit an application through our "Pets for Adoption" page.  We are currently open by appointment only Tuesday through Friday, and have Open Hours on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.  Our appointments are scheduled by matching our applications to our available pets. If your application is chosen, our staff will contact you to set an appointment for a meet and greet to spend some time with the animal one-on-one. We do still have same day adoptions, and if your meet is successful, you can take your pet home at the time of your appointment.  To find the best match for each pet, we prefer to have the entire family present when doing an adoption. If you have a dog at home already, please be prepared to bring your resident dog to meet a potential new dog, to ensure all parties get along. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet. Story
Sylvia was surrendered when her owner went into a nursing home and the family couldn't keep her. She's a senior cat and, common in older cats, Sylvia has mild chronic kidney disease (CKD). She also takes anti anxiety medication daily, mixed in with her food. You wouldn't know she's a senior cat though from the energy with which she plays with toys. She will seek you out for play time, pets, and to get brushed. She'll tell you when you stopped brushing her too soon. We're looking for an experienced adopter. She will need time and patience for her to get comfortable with you before you can see her sweet and playful side.
