MEET POPPY! Check Out Her Videos! The first thing you might notice about Poppy is her stunning looks! She is a gorgeous gray tabby with white markings, and she has the cutest little freckles on her nose! Poppy has scored some prime real estate that she shares with other cats (which she loves) and she`s making nice progress settling in. Poppy has recently begun to enjoy scratches on her head and gentle pets. You`ll often find her curled up in her favorite plush bed. In addition to loving the company of another kitty or two, Poppy would love to go home with someone who has experience with a undersocialized cat so they can best help her accclimate at her own pace. If you`d like to meet this shy but sweet beauty, ask one of our staff or volunteers to take you upstairs to see Poppy in her feline suite. Poppy is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped and been seen by our vet team. For more information on Poppy or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. However, we will be unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. Poppy gets pets!Poppy pets!More Poppy pets!

Meet Weasley - Check Out His Videos! This stunningly handsome orange guy is Weasley, a 2 year old cat who is slowly coming out of his shell, and letting us love his gentle personality. Weasley has had a tough time adjusting to all of the changes he has experienced recently, and is more than ready to find a comfortable place of his own to curl up and call home. Churu cat treats and Temptations are the way to his heart (who can resist a good snack?), and Weasely will even lap it up right from your fingers or straight from the tube - which is a great way to start bonding with your new cat! Weasley tells us that he is looking for a more low key home, where he can get the lay of the land at his own pace. His photo doesn`t do him justice - he has striking white facial markings that only add to his considerable charm! Like his ginger namesake of Harry Potter fame, Weasley enjoys soaking up some gentle love and attention from his trusted friends - could that be you? Come meet him at our Boston branch, where he`s co-housed with a couple of quiet female feline friends whose company he seems to enjoy, and see if this shy and sweet guy is good fit for your home.Weasley is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed/neutered, microchipped and been seen by our vet team. For more information on Weasley or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. MEET SPADES - Sensitive guy seeks quiet partner! This handsome tabby boy is spending time in one of our back rooms where it`s on the quieter side, as he`s a bit of a `nervous Nelly`. In our time with us, Spades enjoys gentle pets and yummy snacks, but he`s got to be won over for a few minutes before he`s ready to make friends. We find that if we sit quietly with him and give him time to get used to having company, he`s less of a scaredy cat. Because Spades is a sensitive soul, we would love to match him with someone who has plenty of cat experience, as well as a quiet home with few visitors so Spades can get into a predictable, low-key and stable routine that fits his personality as a cat who seems to struggle with transition. If this sounds like you, please ask to meet Spades at our Boston branch.Spades is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed/neutered, microchipped and been seen by our vet team. For more information on Spades or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Do not contact through this site. We try to respond to all inquiries but due to the number of responses we get, we may not be able to respond to messages submitted through this site.  If a profile is submitted through the link above, we guarantee a response and availability updates regarding the cat of interest.   Details on Nyx from her foster home! How would you describe the cat's general personality? Nyx is a very affectionate and VERY vocal old lady who loves to be part of everything you're doing. She's smart, curious, and very sweet.  Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes!  If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Pretty much everywhere  Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Haven't noticed any  Does the cat come on your lap? She doesn't curl up on my lap but will walk across it and sometimes pause while standing on it to be adored. Does the cat like to be held? No, but she tolerates it without much squirming.  Does the cat sleep in your bed? No, but she does like to hop up and check on me and then leave again.  Does the cat seek your attention? All the time! Nyx is pretty needy and will not hesitate to let you know if she wants you to be paying attention to her (which she does, most of the time)  Does the cat like to play? A little bit - I've seen her chase toys or her own tail a couple of times, but she doesn't seem particularly motivated by it. She has trouble with big jumps so I think she may just have slowed down a bit in her old age. How vocal is the cat? Very!  What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She has a very commanding "pay attention to me" meow that escalates to a "why have you abandoned me" yowl if you take too long to attend to her. She has a lovely trilling warble that she makes when she's pleased with the attention she's getting. She also meows loudly whenever she's investigating somewhere new. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes  Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No  Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No  Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No  Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No  To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She demands affection from new people exactly as enthusiastically as she does from me!  Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?  She is so excited to be part of whatever I'm doing that sometimes she'll jump into the sink when I'm about to wash my hands and won't leave even when I turn the water on! In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? If you want a cat who will keep you company, stare adoringly at you, and snuggle up next to you, Nyx is the one for you! She's sweet, attentive, and very smart. She's quite social and will be happy to meet your friends or family (as long as they love her too). What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?  Nyx is...very clingy. She sat outside my bedroom trying to claw and meow her way in for over an hour one night (so now I leave the door open, and she meows in my face early in the morning because it's time to pay attention to her). She's not a door dasher, but she does try to follow me everywhere and that does include the door to the outside. I'm home a lot so this mostly works out ok, but I don't think she'd do well with a family where everyone is gone during the day.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  Do not contact through the links on this site. How would you describe the cat's general personality? Eleven is very outgoing and social. She loves to be around people, especially ones she knows well. She will follow you around, sit with you, and loves to be pet and play. Ten is a goofy and clumsy cat. She loves to play, runs so fast she falls over, and follows her mom around. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! Eleven loves being pet and cuddling almost all of the time. Ten prefers to play more often than being pet since she's young, but when she's sleepy she likes to be pet.  If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? On the head, between the ears, behind the ears, and on the back. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? No. Does the cat come on your lap? Eleven does, Ten doesn't. Does the cat like to be held? Eleven does, Ten doesn't. Does the cat sleep in your bed? We don't personally like for the cats to sleep in our beds, but they definitely would if we let them. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes. Eleven loves to follow us around the apartment and always wants to be pet. Ten seeks attention when she wants to play with you or when she’s following her mom. Does the cat like to play? Yes, they love to play with us with their toys and with each other. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? They will play with almost anything- they love their mouse toys, catnip toys, and especially toys with strings. They also love to just chase each other around and wrestle. How vocal is the cat? They are both pretty vocal, but mostly only when they're hungry. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Really cute high pitched meows and squeaks. Does the cat scratch a scratcher?  Yes. If no, please explain.  They also occasionally scratch furniture but will stop when we tell them to. Does the cat always use the litter box?  Yes. If no, please explain.  At first we only had one litter box, and there were maybe 3 incidences of them peeing on the couch. After we got a second box that never happened again. They also occasionally went in the bathroom sink instead of the litter box, but we put citrus smells and tinfoil to deter them from the sink and that worked well and stopped that from happening. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Ten eats 1 2.5oz can of kitten wet food in the morning for breakfast and another one for dinner. She munches on dry food throughout the day. Eleven eats 1 2.5oz can of adult cat wet food in the morning for breakfast and another one for dinner. She munches on dry food throughout the day. Is the cat picky about food? No. What is the cat's favorite treat? They love all treats, but we mostly give them liquid treat tubes as well as dental cat treats. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, but just when playing. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Yes, but just when playing.  Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Eleven is very social, and approaches new people to be pet and to play.  Ten is fearful at first and hides a little, but gets curious and wants to play soon after. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? They are extremely bonded to each other and they love to cuddle with each other, sleep together, lick each other, as well as play and chase one another around. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? These are the sweetest cats I've ever known. I think their love for each other is so adorable and watching them cuddle and play brings so much joy to my daily life. I also think they are the perfect combination of cats to have, because Eleven is so cuddly and loves to be pet and Ten is so playful, so you get the best of both worlds with the two of them! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? They are extremely curious and sometimes want to be in places we don't want them to, like on tables and counters. However, we've learned that making a loud noise like clapping or saying no teaches them not to do those things.  To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  Do not contact through the links on this site. How would you describe the cat's general personality?  Friendly, playful, but polite.  He is an explorer but generally won't cross boundaries you teach him. Does the cat enjoy being pet? yes If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? long strokes from head to tail Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? only hindquarters or sometimes sustained scratching/petting will overwhelm or agitate him Does the cat come on your lap? not yet Does the cat like to be held? yes Does the cat sleep in your bed? yes, both at the foot of the bed and against me Does the cat seek your attention? yes Does the cat like to play? yes What are the cat's favorite games and toys?  He likes small cloth catnip toys, he will put them in his mouth and throw them in the air to chase after!  We have a few hanging toys on doorframes that he also enjoys batting around.  He is quite active. How vocal is the cat? fairly vocal What kinds of sounds does the cat make? meows and trills, particularly near other cats Does the cat scratch a scratcher? yes If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? No.  If no, please explain. BMO did once pee on our couch (it is leather, so easy cleanup), we believe he was marking as our other cats do enjoy sleeping there. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? yes, when he gets overstimulated  Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? yes, same as above Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? yes, when establishing a boundary, particularly if you try to pet him when he isn't looking and isn't comfortable with you yet.  Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? no To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? fairly social if he is in a space he is comfortable with Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?  He is extremely cute with his toys and makes a lot of cute small sounds to announce his presence and get your attention.  In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?  He is very friendly and loves being near people.  He would probably be fine with another cat.  He is still working out his personal boundaries, but clearly enjoys being pet and sleeping near you.  If you want a funny little guy, he's your man! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?  The nipping is a challenge, but taking it slow and only petting him when he tells me he wants to be pet has helped a lot.  I believe once he settles in and finds his human it will not be an issue as he is extremely social and friendly.    To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  Do not contact through the links on this site. Hello there! My name is Pepsi and I am the sweetest 1- to 2-year-old girl you'll ever meet! I had a litter of kittens recently, but they were all adopted and now it's my turn! I'm very friendly and lovable and just adore people. I am FIV positive but I have no symptoms and will have a long, healthy life ahead of me. I need to be in a home with another feline friend to keep me company (and yes, FIV+ cats can live with other kitties!). I'm sure to bring a lot of love and fun into your life if you give me a chance! I am available through Kitty Connection in Medford. Please visit www.kittyconnection.net/adopt/cats/ for more information.

Hi! My name is Lily and I am a 1- to 2-year-old female. I'm heartbroken that my family is moving and can't take me with them. I am a very friendly little girl - I will come and greet strangers as soon as they step through the door. I'm great with children and have lived with them my whole life. I need a home where I'll get lots of attention and won't have to spend a lot of time alone - whether that's with another feline friend or with my humans! I can't wait to meet you! I am available through Kitty Connection in Medford. Please visit www.kittyconnection.net/adopt/cats/ for more information.

Story
Howdy! I'm Mario and I am a handsome, long-legged young boy ready to meet my loving adopter and forever home! I am very sweet and friendly, and I like pets, even on my tummy! I love to play, and would do very well (with a slow introduction) in a home with a high-energy feline friend. I am currently being fostered in a home with several senior cats who do not appreciate my attempts to play with them, but we all get along when I leave them alone! I have not been exposed to children while in foster, but I think I will get along with kids if they are respectful. And we do not know my history with dogs, but I should be okay with a cat-savvy, or mellow dog who won’t mind being chased around by a young, active, playful cat! I was hit by a car and crawled into a trailer. Someone saw that I was dragging myself with a broken pelvis, one side badly shattered, and Kitty Connection was called to take me to the animal hospital where I have had two surgeries: one to insert pins to help me heal, and the second to remove a pin. I can now walk without a limp, and once my fur grows back, there will be no sign of my medical journey! All along I have been stoic and ready to jump and play even when my surgeon told me to rest, and now that I have healed, I can jump and play all I want! I love sitting in a sunny window seat, and on a cat tree in front of a window where I can catch sunny rays and watch Cat TV. I am very curious, and will do well with lots of enrichment toys to keep me busy. I don’t snuggle on the sofa, but maybe I will with time. My foster mom’s lap is usually filled with senior cats who claim the space first. I am okay being picked up, but not held for long, or being carried around. When I am called, I respond for a few pets, but then I need to be off on my next adventure! I have a good appetite, and can hear a cat food can being opened from the second floor! I have good litter box manners. Are you the lucky adopter who will have the good fortune to look into my sweet eyes every day? I am available through Kitty Connection in Medford. Please visit www.kittyconnection.net/adopt/cats/ for more information.
