Story
Thor will be 6 years old in April. He is extremely gentle, affectionate, and would do well with someone who has a routine he can look forward to(comes home similar times each day, goes out on weekends but at least comes home at night). Thor is independent but has anxiety, however, he warms up very well to people if you allow him to come to you. He is not aggressive and has never hurt any one in my time of having him. He is 14 pounds and on a non-prescription diet of 220kcal/day to lower his weight. He is otherwise healthy and up to date on all vaccinations and routine examinations. Thor was a stray who I fell in love with and decided to keep. I thought I could keep him forever but unfortunately housing and safety issues have arose for both of us and I need to find him a safe space. He is excellent with the litter box and is very disciplined about only clawing his scratching posts. He enjoys toys he can toss around himself and feather dangle wands he can jump up and catch.

Story
MEET JasperJasper has been through quite a bit of turmoil recently when his owner moved to a retirement home, then he couldn`t get along with dogs of the neighbor who took him in. Not surprisingly, he is very shy (he hid his face when getting his vaccines!) but we are hoping that patience and time will allow him to warm up and relax. Because he`s not a fan of other animals or unknown people we think he would do best as the only pet in an adult only house.Jasper is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped and been seen by our vet team. For more information on Jasper or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. However, we will be unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. Story
Chet is a timid, but playful boy who is still getting used to being around people. He loves his best friend, Aquiles, who he met at the shelter, and they must be adopted out together. Chet was recently diagnosed with asthma and has a little kitty inhaler that he currently takes daily. Despite his shyness, Chet has been fairly easy to medicate. Depending on air quality and his own anxiety, he may not need the inhaler long-term. Chet is so handsome and with a calm environment and patience will be a wonderful addition to a home, especially with his brave buddy, Aquiles to give him confidence. Story
Sunny Song is just about as sweet and gentle as it gets! This senior gal has beautiful and inquisitive green eyes that seem to look at you with years of wisdom. Sunny loves to lounge but if she has her favorite catnip toy, she plays like a kitten. Sunny will make an excellent companion for someone seeking a laid-back friend to talk to with soft-spoken meows in return. Sunny Song is on a couple of daily medications. Something for a potential adopter to consider.

We try to respond to all inquiries but due to the number of responses we get, we may not be able to respond to messages submitted through this site.  If a profile is submitted through the link above, we guarantee a response and availability updates regarding the cat of interest.   Midnight's journey has been a challenging one; she was attacked by a dog, which left her with nerve damage and incontinence. Her tail had to be amputated, and she was sent to Black Cat Rescue to heal. Despite the hardships she has faced, Midnight has shown remarkable resilience and strength. With the care and support of her foster human, she has made incredible progress. Her incontinence is now manageable with the help of a diaper, and she has adapted to her new circumstances with grace and determination. Midnight is now ready for her next chapter, a loving home where she can receive the care and attention she deserves. She is a sweet and affectionate cat, with a playful spirit that shines bright. She even still likes dogs!! All she needs is a chance to show you the love and joy she has to offer. Please consider opening your heart and home to Midnight. She has so much love to give and is ready to become a cherished member of your family. Together, we can give Midnight the happy ending she deserves. Here's what her foster human has to say about Midnight: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Midnight is very outgoing and active.  She thinks the world is her oyster.  She doesn't hide, even when first entering a space (including the NBC studios). Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?   Midnight loves being petted.  She often stretches up and puts her legs on my knees when I'm sitting so I can rub her head and ears.     Also, if I rub her backside briskly, just above her tail, she will pee or poop if she has something  ready to go.  Recently, she's been volunteering to stand in the catbox for this, which is really helpful. . Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?   Don't pet her backside above the tail if you don't want her to pee or poop.  Also, she is such an active cat that she sometimes won't stand still long enough to be petted, but we still get lots of pets in.   Does the cat come on your lap?     Does the cat like to be held? She wants to come up on my lap and she doesn't mind being held, but we are limited by the fact that she may pee or poop on me.  Sometimes I put a cloth on my lap so we can cuddle.  She also likes to climb up on my shoulders when I'm sitting in the kitchen.   Does the cat sleep in your bed?   I'll bet she would if I could let her. Does the cat seek your attention? Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Midnight absolutely loves attention, either from people or other pets and is always up for playing.  She loves her pole toy and anything that she can bat around on the floor.  She also likes batting at Arvid the dog (who doesn't seem to mind). How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make?   Midnight isn't a big talker and doesn't cry to get through doors, etc. but she has a very cute little meow when she wants to tell me something. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain   Yes, Midnight likes both her cardboard scratcher and to get a long scratch in anytime that she can get to the flat-weave rugs (when she escapes into the livingroom). . Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain. Midnight likes the catbox and will go in and 'pretend' to poop, then scratch around in the litter.  She does occasionally get a poop in the box but as often as not her poops will end up elsewhere.  She doesn't seem to be able to push them out voluntarily without help.     That being said, as I mentioned before, she will poop and pee if I rub her tail end and she is starting to volunteer to do that.  I'm guessing that she is more comfortable with the poops out and appreciates the help.  This is a change from a few months ago when she often wouldn't stand still to have me rub her tail end and make her poop.     I've been making sure she has plenty of time to run around and get exercise on the theory that that will help her to strengthen her back end and perhaps help with the poop coordination.  (She does a lot of running and jumping around now that we've figured out how to poop-proof larger areas of the house. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Is the cat picky about food?   I've been feeding Midnight Royal Canin dental food (Dr. Leavey recommended that for another cat to keep weight in line).  I feed about 3/4 cups per day - sometimes I put out more and she seems to self-regulate her intake. What is the cat's favorite treat? Pretty much anything - I give her freeze-dried salmon or any dry cat treats that we have on hand.  She also likes the pate treats. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?   Midnight likes to play and will swat at me and Arvid for fun.     Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?   Midnight rarely scratches but has clawed me when she is very anxious (at the cat event) or when I tried to get her into a diaper when she had already told me no.  That said, she doesn't scratch me or complain even when I have to put her back into her part of the house after an escape to the livingroom. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, she hasn't nipped or bitten me. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?   Midnight is super friendly with anyone who comes to visit and was either friendly or tolerant with everybody on her outings, except when she'd really had enough at the Boston cat event.  She loves playing with my dog and me and tried to befriend Hugo, my friend's cat who came to stay with us (in his own segregated part of the house)   I think Midnight would love living in a home with other pets, especially if she doesn't recover the ability to reliably use the catbox and so can't sit on laps or sleep with people. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?   As mentioned, Midnight is about the most outgoing, social cat I've ever met.  Also, she is really soft and super plush which isn't really a trait, but makes her very pretty and really enjoyable to pet. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?   If Midnight could use the catbox reliably, she would be just about perfect.  Only people who don't want a cat who is super friendly and interactive should steer away.   Just a guess, but she might be quite dominant in a multi-cat household - she is not at all shy around other cats. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?   Her challenge is just the obvious one.  We have to cover everything with cloths and pads to manage her pee/poop.     I still hope that she will recover her catbox skills, but she might not.  Things have definitely gotten easier over time, but that is partly because I'm getting better at Midnight-proofing the areas she has access to.  That said, she is offering a glimmer of hope so, fingers crossed! We try to respond to all inquiries but due to the number of responses we get, we may not be able to respond to messages submitted through this site.  If a profile is submitted through the link above, we guarantee a response and availability updates regarding the cat of interest.   All about Martini from her foster home!   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Martini  is a sweet old lady who loves sleeping and getting pet. She is very relaxed. She is really affectionate and people-oriented, but super chill at the same time -- she comes to check on me from time to time, and she likes to cuddle up at night, but otherwise she is happy to nap the day away. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She loves getting scratched on the head and underneath her chin, and she loves getting brushed on her cheeks Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? I did not discover any particular spots, but she can sometimes get overstimulated. She will gently nip or hiss when she's had enough. Does the cat come on your lap? No, but she often hangs out in the same room or beside me on the couch Does the cat like to be held? No Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes! She sleeps in my bed every night Does the cat seek your attention? Yes Does the cat like to play? Not particularly -- she'll sometimes kick around a toy for a few seconds but I haven't seen any toys that hold her attention much What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She likes the small catnip fish, and she'll sometimes swat around a toy mouse How vocal is the cat? She's very vocal! What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She has a distinctive scratchy meow, like a rusty door hinge (or maybe a chain smoker?) I call it her "grandma meow". She meows at me a lot in the morning. She also sometimes meows very loudly from the other side of the house -- I will meow back at her and we can go back and forth for a while. She also has the loudest purr I've ever heard -- I can hear her halfway across the room! Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Fancy Feast chicken feast, classic pate What is the cat's favorite treat? She likes Temptations and canned tuna. She really likes salami too but I only give her some once in a while, it's not very healthy Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? She has once or twice, when she was playing with the catnip toy and I reached in to pet her -- she seemed to want to play with my hands Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Once or twice Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She is generally fearful at first and will hide, but she can easily be bribed with Temptations Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She purrs a LOT -- when she sleeps next to me she is constantly purring. She likes to sniff the ground and she will sniff and purr at the same time, so it sounds like a snorting noise.  In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? I would say her super loud purr. I think an adopter should choose  Martini  because she clearly has so much love to give -- she warmed up to me so much in just 2-3 months, and I am sure she will bond with someone wonderfully when she finds her home. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Martini  needs to take medication for her chronic constipation. It is a liquid med and the important thing is that she takes the entire dose. Giving it to her orally was difficult, but I figured out how to make her accept her food with the meds mixed in by splitting it into 2 daily doses and feeding on a regular schedule. She also should only eat wet food, preferably mixed with a bit of water. It takes a minute or two longer than usual to feed her because the food needs to be mixed each time, but it's totally manageable.    To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  Do not contact through the links on this site. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, especially on her head, neck and back. She does not like her belly touched so far. Does the cat come on your lap? No Does the cat like to be held? She doesn’t object immediately, but she soon squirms away. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Sometimes she sleeps at the foot of the bed. Does the cat seek your attention? Sometimes. Does the cat like to play? Yes! She loves chasing balls or playing with mouse toys. She also likes the laser pointer. How vocal is the cat? She meows quite a bit, but it is not very loud. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She meows and she purrs. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, no issues. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No How does the cat react to new people? Skittish but not hostile; she was letting my boyfriend and me pet her (and she purred) within half an hour of getting to my house. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She sometimes flops on the floor, which is adorable. She also purrs immediately upon contact and for the full duration of the petting session, which is excellent. What is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? She is very sweet and never swats, scratches, or bites. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? She doesn’t seek out affection, which some people might not like (i.e. not a lap cat or a “velcro kitty”). However, she purrs generously and is receptive to pets. Someone who wants an independent cat would love her, as would someone who has a young kid and is worried about the kid getting scratched (she never bites or uses claws, as far as I know). Nod has lived happily with in a multi-pet household with both cats and dogs. She will be spayed on 4/23 and will be ready go go to her new home starting 4/24. MEET TONY STARK and STEVE ROGERS! Bonded Bengal Boys! These gorgeous boys were surrendered to us because someone in their home became allergic. These bonded brothers are rarely seen apart and do all the things true bonded pairs do. They are very sweet and loving and are often seen grooming each other, playing together, snuggling and sharing meals. They do have some medical issues so they would love a new family who has a good relationship with a vet so they can retire in luxury. Like their super hero namesakes, these guys are ready to take on the world and save the universe with their new family. Come meet our own Iron Man and Captain America in Boston. Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are currently up to date on all vaccinations, have been neutered, microchipped and been seen by our vet team. For more information on Tony Stark and Steve Rogers or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. However, we will be unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements.
