Story
Artemis is a gorgeous little tuxedo kitten with a celestial name and a heart full of wonder. She arrived at our shelter alongside her brother, Arlo, after being transferred from an overcrowded facility. Arlo has already been adopted and now it’s Artemis’s time to shine! Like the moon goddess she's named after—and the ambitious NASA mission reaching for the stars—Artemis is curious, independent and full of potential. She loves to pounce on toys, scale cat trees like a space explorer and curl up in the sun like she’s charging her solar panels. Her playful energy and endless curiosity are everything you'd expect from a young kitten just beginning her journey. 🐱 A Note About Her Health: You may notice that Artemis has a health waiver in her file. She tested FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), which we know can sound concerning at first—but here’s what that really means: * FIV is not contagious to people or dogs. * It is typically spread between outdoor cats through deep bite wounds. * Kittens can test positive due to their mothers. As she grows, there’s a chance that antiobodies from her mother may result in FIV negative status in the future. Our adoption consultant will walk you through everything you need to know and answer any questions. The most important thing to know is this: FIV+ cats can live long, healthy, love-filled lives with regular vet care, a safe indoor home and lots of affection just like any other cat. Artemis isn’t just a name—it’s a promise. A promise of adventure, beauty and a love that’s written in the stars. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

Story
Ozzy is a sleek black cat with a tipped ear that tells part of his story. He was once part of a Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program, a survivor of the streets who's now ready for something better: a forever home. Estimated to be around 4 years old, Ozzy is past the wild kitten chaos but still full of personality. In fact, he will let you know when he has something to say— he’s a bit of a talker, meowing for attention. When he wants your company, he’ll brush up against you with all the charm of a cat who knows exactly what he wants. What Ozzy Loves: * Chin scratches and gentle pets * Rubbing up against his favorite humans * Being part of the action (on his own terms!) * Having conversations with you — he’s got a lot of opinions! Ozzy enjoys affection, but doesn’t appreciate being overhandled or having his safe spaces invaded. He’s independent, a little sassy and totally okay setting his boundaries. Because of this, we recommend that Ozzy go to a home without children under the age of 12, where his communication style will be respected and understood. FIV+ –What It Really Means Ozzy has tested FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), but don’t let that scare you away. It cannot be spread to humans or dogs and is most commonly transmitted through deep bite wounds of outdoor cats competing for limited resources. Many FIV+ cats live long, healthy and happy lives with regular vet care, good nutrition and a safe indoor environment. Our adoption consultant will be happy to talk with you in depth about FIV and what it means for Ozzy’s care, so you’ll feel fully informed and supported. Why Adopt Ozzy? He’s charming, chatty, independent, and affectionate in his own unique way. With a bit of patience and a whole lot of love, Ozzy will reward you with companionship, head bumps and a voice that makes sure you’ll never feel alone in the room. And while he shares a name (and a bit of attitude) with the Prince of Darkness (Ozzy Osbourne) himself, this Ozzy is more into cozy naps and chin scratches than rock concerts—though he might still meow like he’s headlining Madison Square Garden. Story
Sweet little Fuji is more than just a pretty face. But with her white and buff coat and charming buff markings that look like a short pixie wig, she’s certainly hard to miss! This unique girl is one of 12 cats and kittens rescued from a local park, where they had been living outdoors with three mama cats. The feline families were discovered by a compassionate police officer, who believed they had been abandoned and left to survive on their own. Thankfully, the officer acted quickly and all 12 were safely rescued. Fuji is a curious, sweet-natured kitten who is still learning to trust the world, but her confidence grows more every day. She loves gentle play, cozy hideaways and the company of her sister. Her delicate buff "pixie wig" makes her look like a tiny, stylish cartoon character and her personality is just as endearing. Fuji and her sister, Pink Lady are very closely bonded. These sweet girls have found deep comfort in each other — especially Fuji, who feels secure and protected by her braver, more outgoing sister Pink Lady. To prevent any further trauma and honor the bond that’s helped them heal after having been cruelly dumped in a park, we feel strongly that they must be adopted together. They’re ready to find a forever home where they’ll never be apart. Story
Sometimes, we don’t know how a cat’s journey begins. We only know that they deserve the very best ending. That’s the case with Abel, a sweet and easygoing boy who came to us as a transfer from an overcrowded shelter. He needed a safe place to land and we were honored to give him just that. At approximately three years old, Abel is the perfect blend of calm and curious. He’s past the wild kitten phase, but still full of life and love to give. Whether he’s greeting new visitors or lounging nearby with contentment, Abel brings a peaceful, friendly energy to every room he’s in. During our Reading to Rescues program, Abel was a complete gentleman. He soaked in the soft voices and showed off his love for people. He enjoys interacting, being near his humans and simply being part of the moment but he is not so much a fan of other cats. Abel just needs someone to give him the forever home he’s been waiting for. Could this gentleman be the missing piece in your home? Come meet him and let him win you over one purr at a time. Story
🎃 Meet Lily! She's your purrfect little Halloween charm! 🖤🐾 Double, double, charm and trouble Good luck follows wherever I cuddle! This bewitching beauty is Lily, a sleek black cat who’s just over a year old and full of magic and love. Lily came to us from an overcrowded shelter at the start of September, bravely beginning a new chapter after a tough start. She came to us with her kittens, Lilah and Luca. She arrived needing a bit of TLC due to a respiratory infection, low appetite and dehydration that had her feeling down. But thanks to our medical team and one of our loving foster homes, Lily is now healthy, happy and ready to find her forever family! Did you know that in many cultures, black cats are symbols of good fortune, protection and prosperity? Sailors once believed a black cat on board kept them safe at sea and in Scottish folklore, a black cat arriving at your doorstep brings blessings to the home. It’s true! Lily’s the kind of lucky charm you’ve been wishing for! 🍀 Sadly, black cats (and dogs, too!) are often overlooked in shelters through no fault of their own and just because of their color. But those who’ve adopted them know that their shiny coats, glowing eyes and loving hearts are pure magic. Lily is ready to bring a little enchantment into your life this Halloween and beyond. She’s sweet, resilient and loves cozy naps, gentle pets and watching the world with her celadon green eyes full of mystery. She does not have to be adopted with either of her kittens, but we do want adopters to know that Lilah and Luca arrived with her in case adopters may be inclined to keep part of this trio together. Adopt Lily and let her cast a spell of love over your home this spooky season! Story
Eliot is a an adventurous, polydactyl cat with extra digits on both front feet. He is very playful, very vocal, and has a lot of curiosity, always wanting to explore. He is affectionate and likes to push up against you to tell you he wants petting. We are unable to keep him because he is acting aggressively toward our other cat. We were misinformed about his temperament when we adopted him, and had thought he was good with other cats. We have tried everything we could think of for the past year, but the stress of housing two cats separately and keeping them constantly sequestered has become too difficult. He needs a family who can give him the attention he deserves. We believe he will fit in great with a family that has medium to large dogs (Eliot has been fine with our Golden Retriever) but not with other cats. He is good with children. Eliot needs a lot of attention and playtime, and will meow a lot to tell you!
