Story
Hi! I’m Rosie — and yes, my cool tiger-striped coat comes from being a Dutch Shepherd. Like my German Shepherd and Malinois cousins, I’m a herding girl through and through: smart, loyal, athletic, and happiest when I’m part of my people’s everyday life. I may technically be a senior, but don’t let that fool you — I’m very much in my prime! I’m a healthy, active girl who’s always ready to go when you are. I love walks, car rides, checking in on the horses, and just being included in whatever the day brings. I don’t need marathons, but I do like to stay fit and keep my figure with regular activity and adventure. Personality-wise, I’m vibrant, sweet, and incredibly people-focused. Wherever you’re headed, I’m happy to tag along. Movie night? Visiting friends? Relaxing at home? I’m a professional snuggler and an excellent companion. I have wonderful house manners and greet guests like they’re already part of the family. I even respect the kitties and give them their space. Because I’m a herding breed, I do have a little prey drive — those squirrels simply should not be trusted! I can also get a bit too excited around small dogs, so I’d do best in a small-dog-free home. I generally enjoy other dogs and currently live happily with my buddy Yogi, but I do best with calm, compatible large dogs and clear introductions. Play that gets too intense or chaotic can make me unsure, so thoughtful management helps me shine. Dutch Shepherds are known for their brains, beauty, and athleticism, and I’m proud to represent the breed well. Everyone who meets me says I’m something special — and honestly, I think they might be right. I’m loyal, affectionate, fun, and deeply bonded to my humans. I’ve experienced a lot of change in my life, and what I’m really hoping for now is permanence. Sensitive dogs like me thrive with predictability and routine. I’m adaptable, but my heart is ready to finally know I’m home. I’ll be most successful in a home with one compatible male German Shepherd or similar large breed, or with an active adopter committed to keeping me mentally and physically engaged through regular exercise and shared adventures. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving best friend you can take almost anywhere, I might just be your girl. I’m currently hanging out with my foster family and my dog buddy Yogi in Mountain View — come meet me and see what everyone’s talking about! And just between us… my foster mom and dad say I’m not slowing down one bit — I’m living my best years right now. Story
Dutchess is a beautiful shepherd girl with a tender heart that’s still learning the world can be a safe place. Right now, she’s very scared — the kind of scared that makes her try to make herself as small and far away as possible when someone approaches her crate. It’s clear she hasn’t had an easy start, and everything feels new and overwhelming. But even in her fear, Dutchess is trying. She allows her leash to be put on and will come out with gentle guidance, showing just how much quiet bravery she has inside. One of her biggest moments so far? When the crate door was open to the yard, with a calm environment and a familiar dog nearby, she found the courage to step outside on her own, go potty, and return to her safe space. It may seem small, but for Dutchess, that was huge. Right now, her crate is where she feels safest — she’s even pushed all the blankets aside to lay on the plastic bottom, seeking comfort in what feels predictable and secure. She’s not ready for the world just yet, but she wants to get there. Dutchess is looking for a very patient, understanding home — one that will give her the time and space she needs to build trust at her own pace. A calm environment, possibly with another gentle, confident dog, could help her continue to come out of her shell. She doesn’t need perfection — she just needs someone willing to meet her where she is and celebrate every tiny victory along the way. Watching Dutchess learn to feel safe will be a journey, but it will also be an incredibly rewarding one. Beneath the fear is a sweet soul just waiting for her chance to shine. If you have a quiet home and a big heart for a dog who needs a little extra love, Dutchess is waiting for you

Story
Meet Sophie! Sophie is a beautiful 10-year-old Dutch Shepherd who proves that age is just a number. While she may be entering her golden years, this lovely lady still has plenty of life, curiosity, and love left to share with the lucky family who welcomes her home. Sophie is the definition of a gentle soul. She enjoys the company of people and other dogs, but she`s not one for chaos or drama. She`s happiest in calm environments where she can take things at her own pace and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. When meeting new people, Sophie is friendly and approachable, though she appreciates gentle introductions and respectful handling. She`s affectionate without being demanding and enjoys spending time near her people, quietly soaking up companionship and attention. Around other dogs, Sophie is polite and social but prefers friends who share her mature outlook on life. While she`ll happily exchange greetings and gentle sniffs, she isn`t interested in overly rambunctious playmates. In fact, if another dog comes on too strong, Sophie is quick to excuse herself and create some space. She`s a classy lady who prefers manners over mayhem. Despite being a senior, Sophie still enjoys getting out for walks, exploring her surroundings, and staying active. She has a moderate energy level and would benefit from regular exercise and enrichment balanced with plenty of opportunities to relax and recharge. Sophie can occasionally show signs of stress or uncertainty in busy environments, and she appreciates slow, patient introductions to new situations. Because of this, she would likely be happiest in a calm household without young children. Sophie has spent a lifetime gathering wisdom, and now she`s ready to enjoy the rewards of a loving forever home. She`s not looking for constant excitement—just a comfortable bed, a kind family, and someone to share her days with. If you`ve been searching for a loyal companion who still enjoys life`s adventures but knows the value of slowing down to enjoy the moment, Sophie may be your perfect match. Come meet this sweet senior girl and discover why the best dogs only get better with age.

Story
Meet Finley! Finley`s story is one of courage, growth, and discovering that the world isn`t such a scary place after all. This beautiful 1-year-old Dutch Shepherd mix arrived at the shelter unsure of people and overwhelmed by her surroundings. In the beginning, she preferred to stay tucked away at the back of her kennel, watching the world from a safe distance. Loud noises, unfamiliar sights, and new experiences were all a little too much for her. But Finley has worked hard to find her confidence—and what a transformation she`s made. Today, Finley is eager to get out of her kennel and start her day. She`s learned that people can be kind, adventures can be fun, and affection is pretty wonderful. She now happily approaches people for attention and enjoys spending time with her human friends. Like many young dogs, Finley is still learning about the world around her. She can occasionally be a little jumpy when something surprises her, but she`s shown herself to be incredibly smart and quick to learn. In fact, she picks up new cues and expectations remarkably fast and is eager to continue learning with her future family. One of Finley`s favorite things is spending time with other dogs. She enjoys canine companionship and has a gentle, playful style that makes her a wonderful candidate for a home with another friendly dog. A dog-to-dog introduction will be required to ensure a good match. As a young Dutch Shepherd mix, Finley will thrive with adopters who can provide continued socialization, training, mental enrichment, and regular exercise. She has all the potential to become an amazing companion for someone willing to invest in her future. Finley may have started her shelter journey feeling unsure of the world, but she`s proven that with patience and encouragement, she can overcome her fears and shine. Now she`s ready for the next chapter—a forever home where she can continue building confidence, making memories, and sharing her sweet personality. If you`re looking for a young dog whose resilience is matched only by her potential, Finley might just be your perfect match.

Story
Grace came from Contra Costa County Animal Services, where she was the last dog on the euthanasia list the day she was rescued. She was then brought into my care, where she initially showed signs of significant stress from her shelter experience. With patience, consistency, and a structured routine, Grace has truly come out of her shell.Grace is a very sensitive dog who thrives in a calm, predictable environment. She does not do well with other dogs, likely due to past trauma and her time in the shelter. She would do best in a home with no other pets, where she can feel safe and not have to share her space. She is an active, adventurous companion who loves hiking, swimming, and running alongside a bike. Grace is collar-trained for off-leash work and has a strong bond with her handler.Grace would do best with an experienced owner who understands structure, leadership, and can continue to provide her with the stability she needs to feel safe and confident.
