Story
Bentley is a 1-year old male Dutch Shepherd mix puppy (most likely Belgian Malinois) who was picked up as a stray by Stanislaus Animal Services. This poor puppy was so traumatized at the time of intake, but is now safe with rescue in a wonderful foster home, where he can decompress and begin to feel safe and loved.  As Bentley is new to us, we will post additional information as we come to know him better. What we can tell you, is that he is a sweet little boy, and didn’t hesitate to come to our volunteer upon first greeting.  He is just learning about the crate, and does well with other dogs (although can be a bit shy at first).  His first night in his foster home, he slept in his crate all night with no issues. Bentley will require a committed and loving human who will make him a part of the family, providing the care and attention that every young pup needs. Only older dog-savvy children 8 and above in an adoptive home will be considered. It will be necessary for an adopter to have recent successful experience in raising a GSD, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, or other large breed working puppy. An adopter who will begin and continue his obedience training based upon positive reinforcement is recommended, to ensure he remains on the path of a well-behaved canine companion. We are currently screening applications for the best possible fit; however, he will not be available until he has received all age appropriate vaccinations. ##1805152##

Max, neutered male, 1-year-old, 38-lbs If you would like to give Max a forever home, please contact abetterchancerescue@gmail.com OR log onto abetterchancerescue.org to fill out online application Meet Max! Max is a mellow and cheerful young pup with loving nature. He is close to humans, always greet people with a big smile and non-stop wagging tail and hip. He is super smart and aimed to please, so is easy to train. Around the house he obeys rules, has good judgement, and good self-discipline. He waits patiently before eating his food, before going thru doorways, and when getting in and out of the car. He checks-in often with his human, sitting very still and gazing up politely. He loves the head/tummy rubs and cuddling that follows. He loves to eat and gets excited before taking a walk, but will heed to command well. Max is crate trained to sleep overnight and potty trained to go outside. His favorite pastime is his daily walks, and romping around with doggie friends in the park. Please watch his videos below to learn more about this goofy boy! About Max’ rescue: Max was one of the lucky TNR (trap/neuter/release) shelter dogs that was bailed out by the rescuer before his scheduled release date. Story
Meet the marvelous Martha! Martha came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Martha has been a gentle giant through the transition from her backyard to the Shelter. Martha previously lived with four small dogs and coexisted nicely. Martha is currently hanging out in a foster home. The foster parents report: “It’s going great – Martha’s been super easy to handle. She lives for pets. She’s met kids and other dogs and has been a total sweetheart with everyone. She seems to be slowly getting livelier.”Martha has been low to medium energy. She enjoys sniffaris (slow walks where she can explore the world) and doesn’t necessarily need to run marathons every day with her adopter. Daily walks will be crucial to helping Martha lose weight as she is a bit of a bigger girl than she should be (100lbs!). A home with other dogs may be a fit provided they meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have any history of Martha with cats. If you’re looking for a gentle giant, come to the Shelter to set up a meet and greet with Martha today!

Story
Daisy came to the shelter after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. She has quickly warmed up to staff and volunteers. Daisy is a smart pup, and responds very well to positive reinforcement training. Like any puppy, she occasionally jumps up when she gets too excited, but will quickly sit if you redirect her to do this. She loves to go out on walks and following your lead. She is still learning that new things and large groups of people are not so scary and needs a patient owner committed to positively exposing her to different experiences at her pace. Her foster mom says she sleeps in her crate all night. Daisy is making great progress with her potty training, but will need someone willing to keep working with her on this. Daisy has done well with other similar size dogs in playgroups at the shelter so a home with another medium to large size dog may be a fit if the resident dog(s) enjoy puppy energy and exuberant play style. Small dogs in the home will not be a fit due to her excitable play style. To best set her up for success, we are looking to pair her with a home with a yard and without children. Are you this precious girl’s forever home? Come to make an appointment to meet her today!

Story
Meet Ruby! She came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Ruby is a bit of a shy gal that is gaining confidence about the world around her. She has lived with another dog previously at home and has also met dogs at the Shelter. Ruby enjoys playing with other dogs and tends to follow in their lead as far as interactions in new situations and with new people. A home with a well rounded resident dog may be a fit provided they meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have any history of Ruby in a home with cats or children. Due to her shy nature, a home without young children is recommended. If there are resident kitties in the home, it is recommended that there is a very slow introduction. We are not quite sure of Ruby’s history of living in a home but with patience and positive reinforcement, Ruby will pick up new skills to help her transition.
