We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay on Petfinder until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peak your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=26, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://us14b.sheltermanager.com/onlineform_view?formid=46) completely. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will continue to perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
MAD boy Cain is one of the most handsome Dutch Shepherds we’ve seen.  His heart and will to survive have seen him through extremely tough experiences, but he is now ready to shine for the right adopter. Cain was used as a fight dog, and arrived at his foster’s home with a leg injury, and a broken spirit and heart.  He trusted no one, wouldn’t let anyone near him for weeks.  Slowly but steadily, Cain has been learning how to trust his foster, be cared for, and now has a new excitement for life. This gorgeous guy has learned to be playful and is good with other dogs.  He is still fearful of new experiences, and especially of men.  He stays close to his foster mom and avoids other people at this time, but the strides he has made are heartwarming and he continues to slowly gain confidence. Cain is crate trained, house trained, knows sit and is learning down.  He is treat-motivated, which has facilitated his training. He is fine on a leash and has great recall.  He can also not only jump a 6’ fence but he can scale fences as well, so he will need extra attention for a while until he is not a flight risk.  His foster is now teaching him perimeter boundaries to curtail the fence jumping. Cain will need a female adopter who is very experienced with high drive breeds.  He needs ongoing structure, training and a patient, loving place wherein he can continue to learn trust and feel safe.  He has had a rough life, but deserves a great life now.  He needs his special person, who can give him the love and support he needs to thrive.    If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic.  All dogs come with a Fi tracking collar and a one-year subscription to the GPS service. We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Our home address is in Michigan, however, the majority of our dogs are not located in Michigan. The physical location of each animal is posted with the name of the dog in the title area. If you are within 4 hours of the dog, please be prepared to pick the pet up. We do provide transport assistance up to 350 miles. The applicant must drive the remainder of the distance of the transport.  The basic information that we have available is in our posting, but sometimes fosters will post updates on the MAD Rescue Facebook page as well, https://www.facebook.com/groups/malinoisanddutchshepherdrescueinc. If you would like to further inquire on this animal, please fill out this application. Applications that are completed in our process and being considered as a match will speak to the foster home to gain more information about our adoptable dog. Story
Sugar is in search of her forever home. This gorgeous Dutch shepherd is three years old and possesses an active, intelligent, and joyful nature. She adores open spaces and takes pleasure in activities such as hiking and running.  Sugar is thriving in her training. She has exceptional recall, demonstrates proficiency in basic obedience, and is excellent in her crate and on place. Additionally, she exhibits a strong desire for toys and particularly loves playing with her ball. Sugar is highly motivated by food and will eagerly work for it. If you're seeking a sport dog, Sugar could be the perfect match. She has displayed athleticism and skills that make her well-suited for agility or dock diving.  Sugar has been introduced to livestock and has adapted well. She also gets along nicely with the foster's dogs and other dogs during training sessions.  With each passing day, Sugar's personality shines brighter. When she finds her forever home, she will undoubtedly bring immense happiness to her new owner. Due to Sugar's high energy levels, she will not be placed in a home with small children.  If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic .  We are an official 501C3 organziation that does not have a physical location. Story
Goose is a sweet, goofy, typical Dutch Shepherd. He has quite a bit of stranger suspicion, but immediately warms up to confident strangers.   He has some basic obedience skills and he loves to learn. He's extremely handler engaged and food motivated. He could make a good rally-o dog in the hands of an experienced handler. He's quiet in a crate and travels well. He lacks socialization, but we've been working on place training and people watching and he improves constantly. Low drive, medium energy.  He's not comfortable around other dogs, so he'll need a dog free home or someone experienced with doing crate and rotate. Not fond of younger children. Untested around small animals, but likely not safe.   All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and one-year subscription.  If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link  https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/24689/generic.  We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Story
Mando is a stunning 1 year old Dutchie that was pulled from a Tampa shelter. He is a very high energy, happy, goofy boy.  He will need an experienced, active owner and lots of structure in his new home. He has a good foundation of obedience training. He walks in a good heel on lead with an auto sit and free command when he wants to smell some new scents. Mando would make a great adventure buddy!  He does great on car rides and likes to explore new places. He loves playing fetch and with a tug while also having a solid release command. Best to be an only dog or will need a lot of training, time, and patience  to properly integrate. He can play rough. No cats or small animals. Young children are not recommended.
