Story
This is boy was a surrender along with his siblings at 6 weeks old. We only know he is a Dutch Shepherd and Belgian Malinois. He is loveable, smart and shy. He would do great with another dog to boost his self confidence. Bentley needs time to warm up. He likes kids, but would probably do best with older children. He likes dogs, and cats.

Story
***Darwin is in a foster home right now, so he is not at the kennel. If you are interested in him, please fill out the application at K9stray.com and we will be in touch. Thank you.*** Darwin is such a happy guy! He is estimated to be about a year old and weighs 55 pounds. Darwin is a stunning, gorgeous young pup that is just full of love and goofy antics! He's a very affectionate boy who just wants to please and seems highly trainable. So playful too and always eager to explore his surroundings and sniff out new adventures, he is going to make someone a wonderful companion. However, he will need a leader who can provide structure, as well as some basic obedience. Darwin does have some mild food bowl guarding as well, but he is doing great with his training with “sit and wait” for his bowl, easily being called out with hot dogs and making eye contact when trading up. If you are an experienced dog owner who is ready to give Darwin all the love and support he needs, please come and meet him, he is quite wonderful. He will need an adult only home. If you are interested in Darwin and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
Becca is a joyful, affectionate dog who absolutely adores her people. She's one of the best companions I've ever had. She is loyal, happy, and full of love. Her tail is always wagging, and she brings a smile to everyone she meets. She walks well on a leash when she knows you're in charge, but she can be a bit strong-willed if given the chance to lead. With a confident handler, she's a dream to walk. Due to a past incident where she was attacked by a small dog, Becca does not do well with small animals and would thrive in a home where she's the only pet. 💔 Why I am Rehoming Her It breaks my heart to say goodbye, but Becca needs more space than I can provide. She's not adjusting well to our small home and truly deserves a yard where she can run and play freely. This decision is made out of love and the desire to give her the life she deserves.

Meet Jersey, Jersey is a 10 month old Dutch Shepherd from the suburbs of San Jose, California. She was found as a stray and sadly no one came forward for her. She began to shut down and become extremely stressed in her kennel. With shelter attempted introductions, Jersey was unable to prefomr at her best with meeting other dogs, she was not agressive but did not know how to handle meeting other dogs.  While we are still learning more about Jersey and who exactly she is, we do know she is going to require an active family with an experienced handler. *********************************************** To apply to adopt, please fill out the application by clicking on the Adopt button or ask for this dog to be added to your existing application. Meet Kuma – 10-Month-Old Dutch Shepherd Mix • Chicago, IL Area Kuma is the perfect mix of playful puppy energy and soft, snuggly sweetness. At just 10 months old, he’s well on his way to becoming an incredible lifelong companion. The moment he realized he was safe, he melted into gentle affection. That’s Kuma: a pup who just wants to be loved and included. Since settling into foster care, he has shown what a wonderful dog he truly is. Quick Highlights Age: 10 months old Dog Friendly: Yes — has lived with dogs from 10 lbs to 80 lbs Kid Friendly: Yes — did great with a 3-year-old; best with kids 10+ due to puppy mouthiness Medical: Will need neutered & booster shots.  Personality & Home Behavior • Affectionate, social, and always ready for fun• Nearly perfect house manners — just one accident in over three weeks• Crate trained; sleeps through the night and uses his crate by choice during the day• Playful and goofy, then curled-up-and-cuddly the next moment• Typical puppy mouthiness during play, easily redirected• Still searching for a bed he can’t destroy (he’s trying his best!) Training & Activity • Knows “sit” and “up,” learning “paw” and “leave it”• Loves walks, yard time, fetch, tug, and exploring• Moderate-to-low prey drive — interested in squirrels but not reactive• Gaining healthy weight with consistent nutrition Kuma is a happy, smart, affectionate pup who is ready to be someone’s best friend. With structure, continued training, and plenty of love, he’ll blossom into an exceptional companion. If you’re looking for a young dog with both spirit and sweetness, Kuma is waiting to meet you. #MadLoveKuma *********************************************** To apply to adopt, please fill out the application by clicking on the Adopt button or ask for this dog to be added to your existing application. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Ludwig is recently back with Last Day Dog Rescue after 8 years due to no fault of his own and is still settling into his new surroundings, but we've already learned a few things about him. Ludwig is a dog who loves the company of adults and would thrive in a calm, quiet environment. He's not a fan of young children and would be happiest as the only canine companion in the home. Ludwig has a lot of love to give to the right person and he’s very well behaved. He's looking for an experienced dog owner who will understand his needs and is willing to provide him with patience, and a safe, predictable routine. A fenced yard would be a bonus, allowing him to explore safely.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. December 5, 2025, 8:44 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. &#226&#128&#139Loki is looking for a special home! When he is around people he knows and trusts, he is extremely sweet and well behaved. He builds strong bonds and loves to snuggle up and play. He consistently proves the idiom about old dogs wrong as even at 9 years old he is great at learning new tricks. He even seems to understand English and knows phrases like “go get your toy” and “can I have it”! He is very well behaved in the house and has free roam while alone — he never has any accidents or gets into things he isn’t supposed to. He is also crate trained and sleeps in his crate every night. Despite being a senior shepherd, Loki still LOVES to play. His favorite pastime is playing fetch and he would play for hours if it was up to him. He’s very good at fetch, too, and will keep searching until he finds his toy and then bring it right back. However, since he is a senior, Loki has bad arthritis that causes him a lot of pain. He doesn’t let it slow him down, but takes pain meds and joint supplements to keep him comfortable. He is also prone to slipping on hard floors, and would benefit from a house with a few rugs. While Loki is a great dog with people he is familiar with, he has a lot of anxiety around meeting strangers and will require very slow introductions to new people. If someone he doesn’t know were to approach him or try to pet him, he will growl to warn them away. Because of this, he will need an adopter who is not only willing to give him the time and space he needs to adjust to them, but also to anyone new he may meet in the future. In order to best set him up for success, we are including a training package for him and his new adopters so they can continue working with him to be the best he can be. He may take a little extra time, but once he trusts someone, he shows them that he is an incredible dog with a lot to offer anyone willing to meet him at his level.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Layla, one of two new residents at the Mikey & Me Kennels for Happy Days Rescue.  Layla is a beautiful Shepherd Mix, she’s medium sized at about 45 pounds, she has a beautiful coat, and stunning stand-out ears. She thrives on human companionship and she seems somewhat stressed living in a kennel environment. The more one-on-one time she gets the calmer she is. Just talking to her softly and being in her kennel makes Layla more content.  Layla does very well meeting new people, and she walks nicely on leash. She enjoys the outdoor play area and taking long walks. I believe Layla will thrive in a home as the only dog where she can enjoy all the attention and love the family can give her. She enjoys closeness and cuddle time and it seems to make her feel safe.  If you would like to meet Ms. Layla, please submit an adoption application under her name at  happydaysdogandcatrescue.org . If unable to adopt, please consider sharing  Layla’s bio with your friends and family.  Thanks! Dan DePew Mikey & Me     Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.    Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
