Barney is a 8-year-old hound boy who would love to meet you! With Barney around, you would never lack conversation and would always have someone on your side. He loves a good treat, a comfy bed and a nice walk to go to all the sniff spots! If you're looking for a semi lazy semi active dog, he is the one for the job! Barney is also in our Mutts with Manners training program! This program gives our residents more enrichment and a chance to show who they are beyond the cards that they have been dealt. Barney is a blue star meaning he has just entered the program and is working on basic commands as well as leash manners!

Story
Weiss is a true Super Hound—nearly 50% American Foxhound with Beagle and coonhound mixed in. He has the classic look and deep bark of a tracker, but his favorite thing isn’t scents—it’s his people. He’s a loyal, balanced dog with a big heart who just wants to be by your side. He’s a Velcro dog who loves being close. Intuitive and always ready for a walk, he makes a great companion. On walks, he’s easy and settles into a nice rhythm, though he may pull a bit if excited around other dogs.At home, he relaxes well and doesn’t need constant activity. He’s been great with toddlers, handling hugs and chaos with patience. The honest part: he can be vocal (a low hum/whine), has a loud bark, sheds heavily, and sticks close—especially when a walk is coming.Ideal home: active owner, daily walks, and consistent leash handling. Great with kids and other dogs.

Junebug is a sweetheart who loves to play. She does very well with other dogs. She loves large areas, especially in places with lots of things to smell. She is a high energy breed, so she would do best in a home with a yard and other dogs to play with.

MEET AUBREY!STATS: 2 years old, spayed, American Foxhound Mix, 42 lbsAFFECTION/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a super sweet and playful girl! While I have a lot of hound energy, I get it out when playing outside, running around with other dogs, or chasing the ball. Fun fact - I play very well with other dogs and toys and I have shown that I know how to share very nicely!WHAT I LOVE: I love to play with toys - anything that squeaks, bounces, or rolls! I really love it when my humans are included in on the fun, so playing fetch is a perfect activity! I love to run and would do excellently if you have a yard!KIDS: While I haven’t been formally tested with kids at the shelter, the staff thinks my low key but playful, sweet personality would make me a good buddy for kids that are respectful and kind towards me.OTHER DOGS: I`m dog-friendly and enjoy the company of other dogs! I go to playgroup here at the shelter!CATS: UnknownHER MATCH: I would be the perfect dog for someone looking to make their life a little more fun and active! I love going on walks, so I could keep us both in shape! I have such contagious loving energy. I would do great with a dog sibling or as an only dog, as long as I have someone to love me!SPECIAL NOTE: You should see my pearly white smile!Complete an online application and get pre-approved to adopt at https://www.cognitoforms.com/YorkCountyAnimalControl/PetAdoptionSurvey. Story
Meet Winston!  Winston is a 2-year-old, 45-pound American Foxhound who is ready to find his forever home! He is fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped, so he’s all set to start his next adventure. True to his hound roots, Winston is a friendly, happy-go-lucky guy who loves to play with other dogs and enjoys an active lifestyle. He does have a voice and isn’t shy about using it—just what you’d expect from a good-natured hound who likes to share his opinions! Winston is both house-trained and crate-trained. He may “talk” for a little while when first settling into his crate, but he does adjust and settle down. He does best with other active dogs who can match his energy and play style. He is not a good fit for homes with cats. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, social companion who will keep life interesting and enjoy being part of an active household, Winston may be your perfect match. Ready to meet Winston? He can’t wait to meet you! If you are interested in adopting Winston, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet's age.   **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. **May 15, 2026, 11:33 am

Story
my sweet boy is in the need of a new home! Ranger is 3 (4 in November!) and is not the sharpest tool in the shed. he had some fish allergies so he eats mostly red meat based diet. he’s about 35 lbs but very strong, does not have a good training foundation but is very food motivated. can only be let out on leash unless he knows you have some GOOD treats with you then his recall is decent. he eats in his kennel and is the best snuggler at night, he likes to sleep in a ball in your side. does not do well with unaltered males, is fine with females. he’s interested in cats but has never attacked any that’s he’s ever been around. he’s okay with kids, jumps up to kiss or sniff them and otherwise ignores them (unless they have food or a dog toy) he also has really bad yeasty ears. i clean them daily with a wipe and they stay manageable. he was the best boy but my living situation is not conducive to his behavior and he’s only getting worse here.
