Story
Meet Wilder! This sweet soul is a two year old, 43 pound foxhound mix with a gentle heart and a wagging tail, who is ready to meet his forever family. Wilder is house and crate trained and gets along beautifully with other dogs (big and small), as well as with cats. He enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs.  He would love to live with another dog that he could bond with and play.  At night, Wilder is very quiet in his crate, so he won't disturb your sleep! Wilder loves taking walks, getting pets on the couch, following his foster mom around, playing with dog toys, and chewing on bones.  Wilder came to the rescue quite nervous, but has come a long way since then. He still has some nervousness and will need an adopter that is understanding and will work with him. Wilder is ready to be your new best friend! If you are interested in adopting Wilder, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet's age.   **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. **November 22, 2025, 9:43 am

Story
Meet Winston— The Almost Champion! (He insists it was a very close call.) Winston is a 2-year-old, 43 pound, American Foxhound and proud holder of the highly prestigious title: &#226&#173&#144 Reserve Champion at Thanksgiving Best of Show — in his dreams… or so he claims. Was he actually in the ring? No. Does he believe he should have been? Absolutely. When he struts across the yard or around your living room, it’s with the confidence of a dog who has accepted second place to no one. His long legs, perfect floppy ears, and “I’m basically famous” attitude will make you feel like you’re living with canine royalty — the kind that eats socks instead of caviar. But beneath that almost champion swagger, he’s a total sweetheart. Here’s what you’ll love about him: 2 years old — young, goofy, fun Crate & house trained — even champions need manners Dog-social and friendly — loves playtime and pack life Kid-approved — gentle, kind, and patient with little fans Professional cuddler after he gets his zoomies out Winston is ready for his next big victory: winning your heart and securing the title of Best in Home — gold medal guaranteed this time. If you’re looking for a dog with charm, humor, superb good looks, and the confidence of a champion (real or imagined), Winston is your boy. Come meet him — he’s been practicing his winner’s walk! If you are interested in adopting Winston, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. Story
Lalita (known to her foster as Heidi) is the last of her litter that we pulled from a rural shelter. She is approximately 7 months of age (as of 6.23.2025) and is a little shy but such a loving girl. She loves people (once she knows they will be nice to her) and the other dogs in her foster home. Heidi is not going to be big but tall!! She truly is a must meet!! Her DNA test came back as 55% American Foxhound and 25.4% German Shepherd. Lalita is a happy and playful pup who loves to pounce and run around; just be silly! Lalita would love to meet you! She would thrive having a fenced in yard with mature owners in a quiet household. Contact us today to find out more about our adoption process and Lalita nothingmlrescue@gmail.com

Story
While visiting a high kill county shelter so full dogs were in overflow crates, we spotted Howie and knew we had to come back if we found a foster. Thankfully when someone saw his precious face and short little legs, they offered to foster and Howie officially joined TFDH! Howie is estimated to be 9-10 months old. He definitely is part basset hound with his long stocky build and but given his narrow head we think he's part dachshund which would explain his smaller size (currently 29 pounds). He also has a ravenous appetite so he may have some beagle in him too (DNA test pending). Add all of those together and no doubt Howie is a handful - he's a busy bee and takes advantage of freedom. He is not a couch potato! Howie is dominantly playful with large & small dogs, sleeps soundly in his crate, is housebroken and walks well on a leash. He is always on alert and can be rather vocal to alert his people! For this reason a home with shared walls (apartment or townhome) isn’t ideal. We've discovered Howie LOVES watching tv and he even uses those big paws to paddle around a baby pool to stay cool in the summer heat. He doesn't particularly love to share his food or toys and he does eagerly takes treats so an adult only home would be best. Adopters will need to be understanding that Howie has some “finishing” to do and would benefit from professional training classes. He is up to date on core vaccinations, kept on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and has been neutered and microchipped. Howie’s adoption fee is $300 which includes his neuter.
