Story
Hi, I’m Duncan I’m 2.5 years old, a compact 17 pounds, and I came to Freedom Frenchie Rescue from San Diego Humane Society after surviving a pretty rough start to life. I was used as a bait dog and had several wounds all over my body when I arrived. The good news? I’m healing, my fur is finally growing back, and I’m learning that life doesn’t have to hurt anymore. My Heart & My Trust I’ll be honest — I came in with some trust issues (can you blame me?), but im not totally guarded. I learn fast, and once I feel safe, I’m all in. I do best when things are slow, gentle, and on my terms at first. When people respect that, I show them my soft side pretty quickly. Please do not approach me with your hand out, seriously I do not know why people do that with us dogs. Just let us approach you, some of us have been with hands. I love to snuggle, I love affection, and I’m discovering that humans can actually be really good. My Dog Friends I love friendly dogs who come at me calmly, especially the ladies. My best buddies are Tyke and Mochi — Mochi and I have nonstop UFC-style wrestling matches whenever we get the chance (don’t worry, it’s mutual and all in good fun). I recently went to my first dog park and did amazing. I let dogs check me out, stayed polite, and kept my cool. I am guarded, yes — but not aggressive. I’m just aware and ready to protect myself if needed. Big dogs aren’t really my vibe. I feel much more comfortable with dogs my size or just a little bigger. Medical scare: One morning I woke up and my neck was really swollen so Mo rushed me to the vet. She thought I had a mass like Vida and freaked out. My lymph nodes were swollen, so I had some soft food and some antibiotics and in a few days I was back to normal Learning the Way of the Land Anything new for me needs to start slow and easy. I need time to learn the rules, the routines, and the energy of a new space. That’s why the 3-3-3 Rule is a must for me. I need to learn the way of the land before I fully settle in — and when I do, I really settle in. Potty Training & Daily Life I’m doing really well with potty training and rarely have accidents. That said, during a transition into a new home, things like potty habits, eating, or behavior can temporarily change — that’s normal for dogs like me. With patience, structure, and consistency, I bounce back quickly. I take treats so gently you’ll barely feel my teeth, and I am very motivated by snacks (just saying). The Important Stuff I don’t love wearing clothes… but I’ll tolerate them for fashion moments if I have to. Snuggles though? Those I’m always down for. A Note From My Foster Mom (but still about me) I’m a really good guy — truly. I’m a lot like Tyke, and with time, I’ll fit in just about anywhere. Keeping me socialized and providing structure will be key to my success. Early on, I had some strange behaviors like going after feet outside — not biting, more mouthing , and trying to get your pants— and it’s believed that I may have been kicked a lot , which is why I go after the feet. I am not sure if I want a negative reaction or what.. Mo just ignores me, turns around and then I stop, once that happens I get all the love. That trauma shows up as guardedness sometimes, not aggression. And that guardedness? It’s fading. My Ideal Home I’m looking for a home that: • Understands decompression and the 3-3-3 Rule • Moves at my pace in the beginning • Provides structure, consistency, and continued socialization • Has dogs my size or slightly bigger (bonus points if they’re friendly females) • Believes progress matters more than perfection Final Word From Me I’ve survived a lot, but that doesn’t define me. I’m goofy, loving, resilient, and learning what it means to feel safe. Give me time, respect my boundaries, and I promise I’ll give you my whole heart. I have been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. You can apply for me at freedomfrenchierescue.org, my adoption donation fee is $1100.00 I am being fostered in Mesa, AZ. Love, Duncan

Story
Meet Lilie (18 lbs of “I’m Christmas cute AND I know it”) Hi hi hiiii! I’m Lilie, I’m 2 years old, and I came to the Freedom Squad alongside my buddy Rosie (nope, we’re not related — just two little survivors who went through the same storm together). My “Glow-Up” Story When we first got to rescue, we were both really sick with a highly contagious case of pneumonia. It was so intense that Rosie even spread it to some of her foster siblings. The good news? The rescue worked HARD for us — lots of vet visits, lots of care — and we’ve cleared the pneumonia. I’m officially on the mend and feeling so much better. The Lilie Soundtrack (aka My Trachea Quirk) Here’s my little lifelong quirk: I have an issue with my trachea, so I’ll always sound like a congested little girl. Sometimes you’ll hear snorts, little noises, and occasionally I might have some “boogers” running down my nose. It’s just part of my package — and it does not stop me from living my best life. Food Plan That Keeps Me Strong Because I can sometimes regurgitate, the rescue has me on a freeze-dried diet to help me keep weight on (and guess what — it WORKED). I’ve gained a few pounds, I’m thriving, and we want to keep me feeling strong and steady. My Humidifier Habit I’m a fancy girl with a wellness routine: I do best sleeping with a humidifier near my crate or in the room I’m sleeping in. It helps keep everything more comfortable and cleared out for me. Ball Is Life And yes… I am THAT girl. I’m obsessed with balls. Like… if there’s a ball, I’m locked in. It’s my favorite thing in the whole world and I will happily audition for the role of “Professional Ball Enthusiast” in your home. My Perfect Home I’d love a home that understands my trachea quirk and keeps up with my simple comfort routine (humidifier + good diet). If you want a little buddy who’s sweet, recovering strong, and ready to live a cozy, happy life with a ball in her mouth… I’m your girl. Ready to meet me? Of course you are! I need a responsible family that is going to take on my constant congestion and shower me with love! Please do not apply to adopt me because I’m just “cute” because I am more then that. I am spay vaccinated and microchipped, my adoption donation fee is $1050.00. Currently I am being fostered in Phoenix, AZ, you can apply for me at freedomfrenchierescue.org

Story
Hi, I’m Benny the Christmas Grinch (With a Secret Soft Side) My Story (Told by the Grinch Himself… Me.) Well, well, well… so you want to know about me, huh? I’m Benny, a grumpy-looking, secretly-soft, holiday-season mystery Frenchie who found himself dumped right before Christmas. Yep — somebody’s pet one day, unwanted the next. Long Beach Animal Shelter took me in, and Freedom Frenchie Rescue made sure I got out of there safely. Now I’m trying to understand this whole “rescue life,” but let me tell you… I’m confused. I thought I knew everything. Turns out I don’t — shocking, I know. The Grinch-y Stuff (Let’s Just Get It Out of the Way) Yes, I can be a bit of a Grinch. A tiny, round, ornament-hoarding, candy-cane-suspicious holiday grouch. I do not like other dogs coming near me while I’m getting attention, and I will resource guard — my humans are helping me learn it’s not OK, and I’m trying. Truth is, it’s a Frenchie trait. We’re needy, we love our people, and we want our things. If you want a dog who doesn’t want attention or possessions, then a Frenchie isn’t for you. But if you know the breed? You get me. You’ll understand why I look tough but melt like hot cocoa the second your hand touches me. The Sweet Side (The Part I Pretend Doesn’t Exist) Under the grumpy face and the Grinch-y personality, I’m actually a huge cuddler. I love belly rubs, ear scratches, soft touches, warm blankets, and curling myself under your feet while you work. When you watch Christmas movies, I lie in my dog bed next to you like a little grumpy ornament. Sometimes I hop up for pets, melt into your arms, and then wander back to my bed to pretend I’m independent. I’m sincere, I mean well, and once the house isn’t full of dogs, I relax completely. In a home with one or two dogs, I shine like a Christmas star. My North Pole Manners & Christmas Training Despite my Grinch impression, I actually have very good North Pole manners. I am fully potty trained, which Santa says earns me a permanent spot on the Nice List. I eat two meals a day — now happily — after a few unsure days where I wasn’t certain what was happening. I’m learning basic commands like “sit” and how to politely wait for my treats, even when other dogs are around, though patience is not my strong suit. My resource guarding is improving with guidance and consistency, and I’m starting to understand that nothing good is being taken from me here. As for lifting my leg inside the house, I’m getting much better. I wear a belly band indoors to remind me of my manners, and when I go outside, I do my business like a gentleman. I may give off a grumpy vibe, but trust me — I’m really trying to be the well-behaved holiday elf Santa knows I can be. My Daily Christmas Routine I’m not into toys yet — too busy figuring out this new world — but I do love quiet, cozy spaces. If a dog wanders too close to my crate, I’ll grumble a little, but my foster covers it with a blanket so I can decompress. I love sitting in the dog bed by the TV or tucking myself under your desk like a little green grump gremlin. I’m observant, independent, curious, and trying to understand where I fit. I’ll be heading to a long-term foster soon where my personality will continue to blossom, but for now, this is what we know: I’m loyal, loving in my own way, and full of potential. Why You Should Choose a Grinch Like Me Because even the Grinch deserves a Christmas miracle. I am potty trained, affectionate, smart, sensitive, and trying so hard to be the best boy I can be. I may come with quirks, but I also come with a whole lot of heart — and once I bond with you, my little Grinch heart grows at least three sizes. What my Temp mom reported to the North Pole! At first we just gave him his space, but a funny thing happened yesterday 12/1/2025. He was outside while I was on poop duty and there were other rescues in the yard low and behold!! Benny was trying to play with them. Granted they were all girls but he was getting excited about life and actually played with a toy for a few minutes. He was hopping around trying to engage but wasn’t sure how to. It was a big moment for Benny! So, whoever adopts this guy had to give him his space to decompress for a few weeks but believe me the fun is in him and trying to come out. Trust has to be built with Benny first, after that it’s a drop in the Santa bag! My Next Chapter I’ll be moving into a long-term foster home soon where my personality will blossom even more. But for now? This is what we know: A potty-trained, independent, cuddle-loving Frenchie is an A+ in anyone’s book — especially at Christmas. P.S I am vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped, fostered in Gilbert, AZ (future) and you can apply for me at freedomfrenchierescue.org, and read how the adoption process works! Also do not apply for me if you want me to be your fashion statement, that is not my cup of tea! Love, Benny The Christmas Grinch Who Just Wants a Home of His Own
