I'm Maxwell . I'm a French Bulldog and just 3 years old. I was displaced and so I'm on the hunt for a new family to love me. Are you the one? I need a home without other dogs. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! Meet Gertrude — a tiny Frenchie with a personality that absolutely did **not** read the size chart. Gertrude’s life goal is simple: to be as close to you as physically (and emotionally) possible at all times. She loves attention, follows you everywhere, and would happily crawl into your skin if given the opportunity. Think less “dog” and more “very committed shadow.” Privacy? She doesn’t know her. She is extremely treat-motivated and will gladly work for snacks, though toys currently confuse her. Are they food? Are they friends? She’s undecided. Gertrude has lived with other dogs before, but we do recommend a meet-and-greet with any potential dog siblings—her intense, unblinking stalker vibe can be a bit much for other dogs. Gertrude is still learning the finer points of leash walking and potty training, so patience and a sense of humor are required. She recently had ear infections that caused growths in her ears, which have been cleared by the vet. She’s now on ear ointments and allergy medications, giving her ears a wet, dewy, “freshly misted houseplant” look. A home with bulldog experience is preferred, as Gertrude is a lovingly deformed goblin of a dog who comes with loud breathing, adorable snorts, and zero shame about either. She needs someone prepared for snorts, snores, and a dog who will stare at them with unwavering devotion at all hours. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick, professional creeper, and snack enthusiast wrapped in a Frenchie body… Gertrude is ready to follow you home (and into every room forever). Gertrude was surrendered to our rescue due to no fault of her own. She is being treated for ear infections and is on allergy medication. Meet and greets are by appointment only. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. Kiki and her brother Kai are a pair of very wiggly, very happy dogs. They have never met a stranger and are always happy to meet new friends who may be polite dogs, people and even nice kitties. Whatever they do, they do enthusiastically. Kiki tends to be the leader in this pair and Kai is quite content to let her make the hard decisions. This pair came to us because their human has health issues and was no longer able to properly care for them. They were dearly loved by their family and it shows. Kiki & Kai are friendly, happy, loving dogs who look forward to finding their new furever home. They are house broken and quickly learn patterns, such as where to go for meals, when to go into their crate for bedtime, etc. These dogs will bark. They may think it's to protect their family from a seriel killer or doorbell on TV. Either way, it may make them a bad fit to live in an apartment.

Hello, I'm Mike and I really enjoy playing with other dogs and enjoy being around people as long as they know a few guidelines. I absolutely LOVE to snuggle with people. I really like if you'll play ball with me or take walks together and while I'm thinking about it, other kinds of toys are a lot of fun too. I'm great at watching movies because it lets me perfect my couch potato skills. While I like to cuddle and get into the personal space of my people, I don't necessarily like to have my space invaded. I enjoy head pets and will let you know when I am overwhelmed. I am very vocal. I do have some rules and I need structure from my humans so that I don't take advantage and know my boundaries. I would do best in a home with a patient person who is willing to take things slowly with me and enforce good boundaries for me. It's mostly small things that help give me structure like reminding me to walk through doorways last and sit for food and treats. Because I am a work in progress, I would not do well with children. I am kennel and potty trained, and good with other pets. I won't eat your favorite shoes or chew on the furniture, And, do I even need to mention how cute I am?
