Alfred/ GSD dob 11.07.23/ 4.5mo old/ 39lbs UTD vaccinations/neutered flea/heartworm prevention current Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found on our website. Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL to be eligible to adopt. We will require applicants to be available to travel there. This is one of those times where we jumped in for a breed that is a bit out of the norm for our rescue. A breeder contacted a vet looking to surrender (euthanize) a GSD puppy because he had a heart condition. They knew to get ahold of one of our volunteers because we have taken in many puppies with heart conditions. This week Alfred visited our fabulous cardiologist where he was diagnosed with subaortic stenosis. We were advised that medication or surgery is not necessary at this time, it may never be necessary. What will be important is for his family to keep him healthy, keep him at a proper weight & feed good food, monitor his heart with regular check-ups, and allow him to be a dog! In his foster home, Albert has been a good friend to all the canines in the home. He has a special friendship with his tiny friend, Alma, a Frenchie puppy who also has a heart condition. He plays with her and understands he needs to be easy because she is so little. He is a very sociable boy. Alfred is working on potty training. It is a process that will require commitment & patience. When a new environment is introduced, there are changes in routine, therefore he will need his family to set him up for a successful transition. Consistency & patience will be required. Alfred is doing very well with leash walking. His training is basic & he has a bit to go to be an ace. But he is smart and extremely trainable. He is a puppy, and he has puppy energy, he also doesn't have "manners", so his family will need to be prepared to train basic commands like sit, stay, off, etc. Until he learns these, please bear in mind he could be a fall hazard for unstable people or young children. Alfred has been staying in a puppy-safe dedicated area of the home when his foster mom goes to work. He has not been crate or kennel trained. He has plenty of puppy-appropriate toys in his space & he alternatively naps & plays throughout the day. He really really enjoys having a canine friend to play with, so we would like to see him find a home with a furry friend, but it is not mandatory. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt this big lug, he is a super sweet guy. We are ready to process applications & find Alfred his forever family!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. RJ (formerly Angus) is a young dog still displaying a good deal of puppy behavior.  He was found stray and is being fostered in a home near Round Rock, TX, for the Williamson County Animal Shelter. Click here to see the link to his record at their website. The phone number for the shelter is 512-943-3322 if you need additional information on the adoption process. Here is what his foster mom says about him: In addition to being handsome Angus (now known as R.J.) is sweet, affectionate, super smart, food motivated, and athletic. He loves to be near his people including on their laps or on the couch next to them. R.J. has great recall. He is kennel trained, and appears to be house broken, but we take him outside frequently. He was thought to be a border collie mix because of his black and white coloring but Wisdom Panel determined he’s German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees. R.J. is about 1 year old and weighs 52 lbs. but is still very much a puppy. He has the puppy mouthiness at times but can be redirected easily with a treat or a toy. He loves to run and play fetch or, roll around with our “collie ball” in the backyard. He plays by himself with his favorite stuffed otter and has mastered one of our dog puzzles in no time. He knows basic commands of sit & down and is working on wait and spin. There are no issues with baths, brushing or touching his feet. Leash walking is getting better and at times he walks on a loose leash but it’s a work in progress. True to apparently being a herding breed he is on high alert when out on walks. R.J. has many great qualities, and we see him becoming a better house guest daily. He does have a few issues, but he responds well to positive reinforcement and counter conditioning. He was found as a stray on a very busy road. He’s leery of meeting new people but can be won over if that person has treats and tosses him a few. Once he sees he’ll get treats he moves closer and starts to take treats from their hand and wants to be petted. He will need to be introduced to new people and places slowly to make sure he has positive experiences. He does tend to resource guard food and treats when the resident dog is nearby. We toss him a treat, so he’s distracted if we go to pick up one of his high valued chew bones. R.J.’s best forever home would be one that has experience with high energy dogs, understands t he needs of a shy dog and is not away from home for long periods of time. The home should have a large, fenced area for him to run and no young children. R.J. is not the kind of dog that would do well in an apartment or in a home where he’s kenneled for hours. He may do the best as an only dog. He has not been tested with children and has only been tested with our resident senior female border collie. He very curious about her but doesn’t respect her corrections and doesn’t seem to understand dog communication. The best home for this sweet boy is with someone experienced and willing to spend the time training him, so he can conquer is fears of the unknown. A home with older children and where he’s not left alone for long periods of time. He needs someone that treats him with the kindness and patience he deserves to blossom. He has so much potential to become a wonderful companion and friend. If you are interested in knowing more about RJ, please contact his foster mom, Rhoda, at schularick.r@gmail.com. Please note:  RJ has not been around children of any age enough for a determination to be made about how he gets along with children.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 27, 2024, 10:08 am

WE ARE A TX BASED RESCUE. THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TX AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED UPON ADOPTION. Please fill out an adoption application found at haydudeequine.org Rush - You are the bridge between what was and what will be, my pathway to a new life! Rush is an Old English word meaning 'weaver' usually using the reeds known as rushes. And let me tell you, that name suits me as I'm a real pro at weaving...weaving my way right up into your heart!!! I'm a youngster coming in at around 6 months. What a perfect age to be your lil spongey sidekick...soaking up everything! I'm affectionate with people both tall and small, get on good with the other foster pups but haven't met any of those strange creatures y'all call a cat yet. Being active and playful I'd do great in a home with another playful 'sibling' or as your adventure buddy getting all the attention. I come in at right around 36lbs and will make a fabulous mediumish size boy to share in all your activities whether it's monitoring your yardwork skills to making sure you have a blast on our action packed adventures. Whatever is your preference I'm game on giving it a whirl!! My beautiful short coat is low in the maintenance department making me more of a wash-n-go type of fella. Perfect for being ready to go at the drop of a hat!! I've got a moderate energy level which will require some daily exercise and playtime but with that in I should do just fine in town with a yard, out in the country or anywhere in between. Are you in need of a BFF to share in all your daily going on's? A sidekick to be by your side for those action adventures? A cohort in crime. hehehe I can be that, no problem!? OMGosh, that sound just like you're searching for ME!!! Stop scrolling and hurry to fill out my adoption application and we can be on our way to having sooooo much fun!!
