Story
Good girl needs a good home. My beloved dog needs a good home to spend her last years in. I am unable to take care of her anymore. She needs more exercise than I can give her. I am not financially able to take her to a vet. But she's always been healthy. she is around 10. I want to make sure that she will be living her best life. I've had her for 6 and it is extremely difficult to say goodbye. She needs training. Easily trained. Food motivated. I can't remember the commands and I can see her frustration with me. Playing and fighting are easily confusing for her and she will revert to fighting. She has had minimal socialization, but better than she used to be. Ok with gentle kids, cats, and dogs Never been in a shelter i would like to keep it that way. Great guard dog. Not a lap dog. Loves being outside and car rides. She has never really been alone . Not crate trained. Parents have always been at home during the day.

The adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet your possible new family member.helpingstrays.org

Story
Nala is half German Shepherd, 1/4 Husky, and 1/4 Great Pyrenees. She has a big heart and lots of energy. She’s a bit anxious and might take a minute to warm up, but once she does she is super loving. For the most part she gets along with other dogs but tends to be toy aggressive. A fenced in yard is a must, as she will take off. She enjoys chewing on Nyla bones and playing fetch. We are looking for an active owner who can give her the attention and exercise she craves.

Alfred German Shepherd DOB 11/07/23 54lbs UTD vaccinations Neutered/Microchipped Flea/heartworm prevention current Adoption donation: $400 (tax deductible) Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found here on our website. Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL to be eligible to adopt. We will require applicants to be available to travel there. This is one of those times where we jumped in for a breed that is a bit out of the norm for our rescue. A breeder contacted a vet looking to surrender (euthanize) a GSD puppy because he had a heart condition. They knew to get ahold of one of our volunteers because we have taken in many puppies with heart conditions. Alfred visited our fabulous cardiologist where he was diagnosed with subaortic stenosis. We were advised that medication or surgery is not necessary at this time, it may never be necessary. What will be important is for his family to keep him healthy, keep him at a proper weight & feed good food, monitor his heart with regular check-ups, and allow him to be a dog! In his foster home, Albert has been a good friend to all the canines in the home. He had a special friendship with a Frenchie puppy who also had a heart condition. He played with her and understood he needed to be easy because she was so little. He is a very sociable boy. Alfred is working on potty training. It is a process that will require commitment & patience. When a new environment is introduced, there are changes in routine, therefore he will need his family to set him up for a successful transition. Consistency & patience will be required. Alfred is doing very well with leash walking. His training is basic & he has a bit to go to be an ace. But he is smart and extremely trainable. He is a puppy, and he has puppy energy, he also doesn't have "manners", so his family will need to be prepared to train basic commands like sit, stay, off, etc. Until he learns these, please bear in mind he could be a fall hazard for unstable people or young children. Alfred has been staying in a puppy-safe dedicated area of the home when his foster mom goes to work. He has not been crate or kennel trained. He has plenty of puppy-appropriate toys in his space & he alternatively naps & plays throughout the day. He really really enjoys having a canine friend to play with, so we would like to see him find a home with a furry friend, but it is not mandatory. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt this big lug, he is a super sweet guy. We are ready to process applications & find Alfred his forever family!

Story
Rocky is a very loving dog. We have had him since he was six weeks old. We will be moving soon and unfortunately unable to take him with us. It breaks our heart We can't take him with us but where we are going does not allow large breed dogs. We just want a loving home for him. Somewhere he can get all the belly rubs and treats he wants. He is spoiled, so a home where he can get all the attention preferred.

Story
Vince is a sweet 3-year-old German Shepard who was found in an abandoned house, emaciated and weak. He was adopted shortly after rescue and was returned due to his reactivity with other dogs. He's a sweet boy and a little shy at first meetings. He would do well in a home with no other pets.

Life happens fast, if you don't stop every once in a while and look around, you might miss it! I came to GDR with my siblings and Mama, who are all adopted now yaaay, and now I'm waiting for it to be my turn to be adopted! Dodger is a happy and excited boy who loves to wag his tail and makes lots of noise, just like his sister! He has a ton of energy to spare and wants to use it running around, playing fetch, or going on long walks. He'll need lots of activity and would be great with another active dog and active kids :) Dodger is a very sweet and polite boy also who loves to cuddle on the couch or bed, or sit down right next to you. Some basic information about Dodger; he is male, Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix, and is large-sized (60-99lbs). Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
Meet Ranger, the intelligent and active Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix with a heart full of love and boundless energy. This handsome boy is a fast learner and has mastered essential commands like sit, down, wait, and shake. He's so clever that he tackled a level 3 puzzle on his first try! Ranger is a well-behaved and well-trained pup, making him a pleasure to have around the house. He's house trained, crate trained, and shows no signs of destructiveness indoors. However, he does experience some separation anxiety when his human leaves the house, which is why he's kept in his crate during errands. But don't worry, when he's playing in the backyard with his furry friend, he's perfectly content and doesn't exhibit any separation anxiety. Ranger is an active boy who loves going on walks, and he'll gladly accompany you on all your outdoor adventures. While Ranger is intelligent and affectionate, he can be barrier reactive, meaning he may react when he encounters certain barriers or boundaries. Patience and positive reinforcement training can help him overcome this behavior. This is very typical behavior for both breeds and he absolutely has to be adopted into a Mali/GSD knowledgeable family/ Ranger was in pretty rough shape when rescued and the vet initially thought he had an intestinal disease. Nothing was definitively diagnosed but the vet believes he has small intestinal issues. He is on a folate vitamin daily and will just need annual lab work and a high quality RAW FOOD diet. Ranger's charm and charisma shine through in the photos and videos provided, capturing his playful and loving nature. If you're looking for a smart, active, and affectionate companion, Ranger is the perfect match. Give him the love and care he deserves, and he'll reward you with loyalty and companionship like no other. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)
