Story
Marla (b. 4/2018) is a beautiful German Shepard looking for a patient, consistent owner. She is looking for a home that is able to provide her with stability to help her overcome her fears and help get her on the right track! Marla would love to live in a new home as an only dog but with the proper intro, she could potentially be OK! She is reactive to dogs in general and would need multiple visits with her new adopter. She would, however, do best in a home with no children. Young children and other high strung dogs really stress her out. Marla also needs a 6 foot fence because she can clear a 4 foot fence with no problems. With lots of structure, positive reinforcement, and the help of a trainer, we are confident that Marla will blossom into a great companion. If you think Marla would be a great addition to your family, please fill out an application to meet this sweet girl! Adoptions for Marla are limited to the area within 50 miles of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area so the pet can continue to take advantage of free training from our certified positive reinforcement trainer. The suggested adoption donation for Marla is $250.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs. If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Story
Rose (b. 8/2023) is a German Shepherd/Pitbull mix.  If you're looking for a perky puppy who loves the outdoors, then Rose is the pup for you.  She loves playing soccer by herself with a tennis ball, but would much rather challenge you to tug-of-war.  Her favorite place to lay is on your lap and she will give kisses whenever she sees you.  She gets along great with cats, kids and dogs.  Does Rose sound like the perfect girl for your home? The suggested adoption donation for Rose is $365, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals.  In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $390,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Alter Agreement: If the dog or cat you adopt is older than six months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital in Omaha, at no cost to you. Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $80 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost. If the dog or cat is younger ,than 6 months of age, adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice. If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $80 for dogs, and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses. All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized. Lyla (b 8/18/23) is a German Shepherd/Pitbull mix.  Are you looking for a fun-seeker?  Lyla is your gal.  She enjoys a day that involves a ton of playtime.  But once she plays out that energy she will crawl up on your nap and take a snooze.  She does good with other dogs and kids.  She is still learning that cats are not to chase, but it is a fun game in her eyes.  She is a very sweet girl looking for her furever home, is that with you? Story
Hexa (b 12/2015) is a German Shepherd who is looking for her furever home.  She's a bit of a shy girl who'd prefer a quieter home with people that will keep her active, but doesn't mind when new people come over!  She gets along with older children, but would prefer to be the only pet in the home.  This lovely girl is food motivated, which makes her easier to train, although she already knows basic commands like sit, down, and waiting for permission to walk through doorways.  She's potty trained, crate trained, and completely house trained!   She loves to run and play outside, so a fenced in yard where she can feel safe is a must.  Inside, Hexa loves a quiet spot to call her own where she can go and relax when she feels so inclined.  Because of her shy nature, Hexa is looking for a home that will allow her time and grace to warm up to her new family and learn to trust them.   If you can provide Hexa with the love, time, and affection that she desires, apply today! The suggested adoption donation for Hexa is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time-to-time owner’s find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.  Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Story
Oh, Skip, you Big Handsome! We love you to pieces but dude we need to talk big time! So pull up those big boy pants then sit and stay!  Me, "So young man you seem to have it all! You are happy, loving, super smart, cuddly, and handsome but I gotta ask what is up with you and other dogs?"  Skipster, "I don't want to talk about it!"  Me, "Tough! Now spill it mister or no treats today!"  Skippy, "OK fine, whatever! So here's the deal I lived my whole life on a short chain in a hell hole backyard by myself. So now when I'm getting 2 square meals a day, lots of delicious treats and loads of attention, why would I want to share?! Jeez I will happily walk by them but I'm NOT gonna live with 'em and you can't make me!" I was frustrated at first after talking to Skiparoo but then I really thought about it. And you know what? It's OK! Not all dogs like other dogs and they can be happy. Just like not all dogs love cats and in fact some get eaten. Heck, I don't always like all people so I sometimes avoid them! Skip might be a jerk to other dogs, but he's our jerk and we love him as he is and we hope someone out there will too! His good qualities far outweigh the bad in the end! So if you have no other pets and a 6 foot fence, plus if you have lots of love to give, want a goofy forever best friend to share adventures with, and a soft snuggly bedwarmer to open your heart to, then you have found your dog. Skip the Handsome! Please share this post far and wide as this boy is so deserving of a chance to know love in his own home! Apply at: https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org/adoption-application. We are looking for an ADOPTER or a FOSTER! ADOPTION FEE $250 and his trainer will be available for follow ups for his whole life, as she too loves this big lug!   PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you.  Thank you for choosing adoption!! April 23, 2024, 12:59 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Smokey is a handsome pup with a big personality! He is a little timid at first but warms right up when he has another pup to play with! He loves being outside and is often sunbathing or playing with his siblings! Smokey is potty trained and kennel trained. Smokey does well with other dogs, cats, and children. Smokey would make a perfect dog for a family who enjoys the outdoors!Like any of our dogs, this sweet, handsome boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that this breed needs.  Because of that, Smokey's ideal owner will have prior GSD or other herding breed experience, and a friendly dog buddy for Smokey.  Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember  that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.   Smokey's adoption fee is $295, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.April 12, 2024, 8:08 pm

We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Armani (also known as Sissy Pants, Puppy, Poppy, Gremlin, Bad Bunny, and SBP) got her name because HUGS took her on knowing of her mega-E diagnosis, and much like her designer namesake, we knew she was going to be expensive!  Armani was surrendered to rescue at only 11 weeks old - the backyard breeder tried to bait and switch the buyers with Armani over the puppy they had already chosen, and when that didn't work, gave Armani to them for free. The buyers immediately realized something was wrong, and Armani was diagnosed with Mega-E two days after they got her. When they contacted the breeder and were told Armani would be put down if they returned her, thankfully they found us. Even by Shepherd standards, Armani is smart. Her first Bailey chair was built the same day she was rescued, and by her third meal in it, she had started jumping on her chair when she saw her foster mama making her food! The first few days with Armani, she was fairly low energy and restrained, likely from lack of nutrition. She began perking up quickly, and is definitely the life of the party now, acting every bit a 'normal' puppy! Shoes and socks were not safe around Puppy for months, but she has recently discovered how tasty kitchen towels can be! Armani is very much a typical puppy - full of energy, always ready to play (even after a 4 mile hike!!), and wildly curious about the world around her.  Armani has excelled at training, knowing sit, stay, how to get into her chair at mealtime, and great leash manners for her age. She's been well socialized thanks to her foster brother and two foster sisters, and has learned how to read and respect other dog personalities, everything from grumpy old man dog to crazy zoomie wrestling sister dogs. Regarding her Mega-E diagnosis: while Armani has congenital, generalized Mega-E, meaning she's not a surgical candidate, her condition is well managed without medication and only needing 15 minutes of upright time after meals. She has earned the nickname 'Diva' from her backup fosters who watch her when Mom travels because her food and feeding preferences change with no rhyme or reason. Sometimes she eats her entire meal from her bowl, sometimes she demands to be spoon or handfed (extra fun when feeding her special recipe mush!) Similarly, she normally gets a 'mush' recipe, but at times will refuse, wanting canned salmon, raw meatballs, or straight dry kibble. She does not tolerate water well, so she gets gelatinized chicken broth cubes. Armani is very much a pack dog - she first left her mom with her littermate, and has since grown up with a pack of three GSDs. She's far more timid when she goes somewhere alone, but will gain confidence if adopted as an only dog to someone who puts in the training time. She is incredibly bonded to her humans - if foster mom is working from home, she will happily spend the whole day perched on the arm of the couch next to mom's desk dropping toys on mom and breathing in mom's ear. Like any of our dogs, this sweet, gorgeous girl would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that this breed needs.  Because of that, Armani ideal owner will have prior GSD or other herding breed experience.  Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember  that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.   Armani's adoption fee is $425, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. His personality is always happy. He will never say no to a nice walk, run, or playing in the yard. He loves kids and is patient with them, but doesn't always remember how big he is, and can knock them over. He does well on walks and is working on not pulling when he gets excited. He does okay with cats and leaves them alone in his foster home, unless they provoke him. Bones and stuffed animals are his favorite things to play with. He is working on kennel training and has made good progress, but still isn't a fan of it and currently uses a heavy duty crate. Because of that, Cosmo would do best with someone who is home a lot. Cosmo does best when foster mom gets to work from home or can take him to work with her. Cosmo is such a snuggle bug and so loving. Cosmo loves to play with other dogs, and would love a friendly, laid-back doggy sibling who is tolerant of puppy shenanigans. Like any of our dogs, this gorgeous boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that his breed needs. Because of that, Cosmos' ideal owner will have prior GSD, Husky, or other herding breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners. Story
Introducing Mallory a gorgeous Belgian Malinois Mix b. 07/2017. Sadly, Mallory did not have the best start to life and grew fearful of people. Due to this she is slow to warm up and will require multiple visits with any potential adopters. But once you have earned her trust she is a smart loyal girl. Mallory wouldn't mind having another dog or two in her furever home tho she would need to meet them a couple of times to ensure everyone was to party for life together! As much as Mallory wouldn't mind a dog sibling, she will take a hard pass on any human or feline siblings. So who is ready to add this smart girl to their family? Apply today and learn what loyalty means! All dogs adopted through Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue come with a lifetime free behavior; training with our Positive Reinforcement/Relationship Based trainers. To assist in a smooth successful transition, Mallory will be required to have training sessions set up at the time of adoption and maintain the scheduled sessions post-adoption. The suggested adoption donation for Mallory is $250.
