Story
November is Adopt a Senior Dog Month! If you’re all about Netflix and chill Grace is your girl, because she is all about the chill! Miss Grace is an 8 year old spayed former family pet of a puppy mill breeder. She gets along with people, kids, dogs, & cats. This beautiful sweet, quiet & gentle lady just wants to hang, eat, enjoy lots of lovins & sit outside and take in nature. She’s in no hurry to go anywhere, walks great on a leash, and is fond of car rides as well. Grace was around children her entire life. She knows commands and also has a playful side; she loves to play catch! She gets along with people, other dogs & the resident cat in her foster home. Grace would be an excellent companion for an older couple as she is so mellow! Come and take this little lady home for the holidays!! Her foster mom says, “Grace is an absolute sweetheart and a joy to have in our home.” *Grace is in foster care. Meet & Greets can be arranged for approved applicants. If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in. *PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them. NYS Registration #RR028

Story
Sophie, a German Shepherd/Husky/Mystery mix arrived at NCCR 8/26/25, surrendered when her owner could no longer provide care for her and her babies. After a vet checkup, Sophie and her pups were put on a feeding and care plan to get them on the road to good health after being ill & malnourished, and all of them made a great recovery! With all her pups adopted into homes of their own, Sophie has since been spayed and brought up to date with vaccinations and vet care and is ready to find a forever home of her own. She is sometimes just a little bit timid with strangers, but warms up very quickly once she realizes she is safe. Sophie is very smart! She enjoys going for walks and earning treats & praise as she learns new skills. She is house trained and seems to be dog-friendly with most other friendly dogs, too. She’s a shelter favorite!
