Story
We adopted Rex (6 yo) from Ft. Wayne Animal Care and Control, about 5 years ago. He's a good dog, very smart, very protective of all of us. He is a bit skiddish around strangers. We live in the country so he has had very little exposure to other animals. Our three children have all moved out of the house and my wife and I have unusual work schedules. It is difficult to give Rex the attention that he needs and so we need to rehome with someone that can provide that for him.

Story
This handsome guy is Togo! He’s a big, beautiful German Shepherd with the most beautiful eyes and a quieter, more reserved personality. Togo recently came to FDHS with his friend Lulu (also available!) after their previous owner could no longer care for them. Togo is still settling in, but so far he’s been very gentle and well-mannered with our staff. He may not be the first one to rush up for attention, but once he feels comfortable, you can tell he really enjoys being near his people. We were told that in his previous home, Togo formed very strong bonds with his family and tended to act like a shadow, happily following them around and staying close by. He seems like the kind of dog who will be incredibly loyal to the people he trusts.Since he’s still new here, we’re continuing to learn more about him each day. But if you’re looking for a devoted companion who will stick by your side, Togo just might be your guy.

Story
This stunning girl is Amity!Amity is a German Shepherd who recently came to FDHS as a stray and was never reclaimed by her previous owner. While we may not know much about her past, we’re learning more about her personality every day, and she’s already leaving a pretty great impression.Amity is a high-energy girl who likes to keep both her brain and her body busy. Because of that, she would likely do best in a home with Shepherd or other working breed experience, or with someone who understands the needs of smart, active dogs. She’s the kind of pup who will really enjoy having things to do and people to do them with.So far, Amity has been friendly with our staff and easy to handle, and she’s been doing a great job keeping her kennel clean. She can be a bit strong on leash, but she absolutely loves getting out into the fenced yard to stretch her legs and burn off some energy. She also seems pretty curious about the other dogs here and may enjoy having a canine friend, with proper introductions of course.Since she’s still pretty new, we’re continuing to learn more about her each day. At this time, we don’t know how she is with small animals or young children.Amity is a smart, active, and very beautiful girl who’s ready for a fresh start and a family that can keep up with her adventurous spirit.

Story
Hi, I’m Lulu!I’m a brand new face here at FDHS, and I arrived with my buddy Togo (he’s also looking for a home!). Our previous owner couldn’t care for us anymore, so now I’m starting fresh and hoping my forever family finds me soon.I’m a German Shepherd with a pretty easygoing personality. The staff here say I’m very sweet and eager to please, which basically means I try my best to be a good girl wherever I go. I’ve been really happy meeting everyone here and soaking up all the attention. In my previous home, I lived with children, other dogs, and even cats, so I’m used to being around quite the variety. I’ve been keeping my space very clean here at the shelter, which everyone seems pretty impressed by. I’ve also been walking nicely on leash and trying to show my caregivers what a well-mannered lady I can be. I’m still settling in, but so far I think I’m doing a pretty good job.Right now, I’m accepting adoption applications and hoping my perfect match is out there somewhere. I’d really love a home where I can be part of the family and keep being the good girl everyone says I am.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Nikko was acquired from the DeKalb Humane Society in ~ November 2026. He is about three years old and appears to be intelligent. However, he barks and growls at some adults - friends and relatives who visit our home. We have neighbors with small children and weekly visiting small grandchildren - we never have a good sense of confidence of how this dog will behave, though his aggressive behavior has been limited to growling and barking.

Story
Finn is a great dog. He is well behaved but also has energy to run around outside and go on long walks. He loves playing fetch as well. Finn does have EPI so he requires a powder that goes on his food. We are hoping to find someone who can give him more time and attention than we currently can.
