Story
Gretchen is a 10-year-old German Shepherd with a gentle heart and a lifetime of love still to give. This sweet old baby has the kind of soulful eyes that seem to understand everything you say. She’s the type of dog who will happily sit beside you while you read a book, watch TV, or enjoy a quiet afternoon. Gretchen has clearly spent her life being someone’s loyal companion, and she’s ready to be that special friend again for a lucky adopter.Like many senior shepherds, Gretchen has a little stiffness in her hips, but it certainly doesn’t slow her spirit. She can still get around just fine and enjoys taking relaxed strolls and exploring the yard. Once she warms up, she’ll even break into a playful trot when she sees another dog who wants to be friends. Gretchen absolutely loves the company of other dogs and seems happiest when she has a buddy to share her space and toys with.Despite her age, Gretchen still has a playful side that pops out in the cutest ways. She loves soft toys, gentle games, and will happily wag her tail like a puppy when you tell her she’s a good girl. She also has a funny little habit of leaning against people when she wants extra affection—her version of a big shepherd hug. And if you scratch behind her ears just right, she’ll close her eyes and melt into pure bliss.Gretchen is the perfect blend of calm companion and playful sweetheart. She’s past the wild puppy stage, but she still has plenty of love, joy, and tail wags to share. What she’s really looking for now is a cozy home, a comfy bed, and a family who will appreciate what a wonderful senior girl she is. If you’re looking for a loyal friend with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Gretchen might just be your perfect match. If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm.My adoption fee is Sponsored

Story
Almond is my sweet, loving dog, and I got her from a Detroit Animal and Friends event last March. She’s about two years old and full of energy, especially when it comes to long walks and playtime. At the dog park, she shows off her cool trick by jumping right over other dogs, which always makes me laugh. She’s very easy to train, already potty trained and cage trained, which makes her such a smart and well-behaved girl. Even though she’s energetic outside, she really values her privacy at home and is usually tucked under my bed where she feels safe. She loves to sleep with you and be close, but she can be a little shy at first. One of the cutest things about her is that she loves to watch Bluey like it’s her favorite show. Almond has such a gentle heart, so make sure to show her lots of loves my Almond truly deserves it. She’s an Almond Joy!!

Story
Meet Lemon!Lemon is 2 year old girl looking for a running buddy and an active person! Here is the scoop on Lemon:-She loves the outdoors and is ready to explore it all with you. -She does well with dogs but would also be ok as the only pet. -No cats in the home for her please. Lemon thinks cats are fun to chase.-Kids? We think she might do ok with kids. She can be a little shy so just go at her pace!-Lemon would not do well in an apartment or condo. A house with a yard sounds more like her jam. She needs space to roam. Lemon is so sweet, gentle, and ready to jump in your car. If Lemon sounds like your kind of dog, call the shelter to schedule a meet and greet. You will not be disappointed. If your application was approved and you received a call back from the Humane Society of Macomb for a meet and greet, plan to take the animal home that day. Be prepared to adopt and to bring a home a new family member. We cannot place puppies/dogs on hold to come pick up for another day.Thank you for showing an interest in our pets. We can never guarantee the breeds of the animals. We do not DNA test. Please feel free to call us with any questions.

Dorothy is a sweet loving little dog. She loves every person she meets, young, old, male or female, they are all friends. She is also great with all the dogs she meets. Dorothy will give a small growl if another dog is pushing her too far, but as long as the humans step in and make the other dog give her a break she will settle and not take it any farther. She is a lover, not a fighter. Dorothy would love a home with a doggie friend as well as a family that enjoys cuddling with her.
