Story
Cooper is a sweet senior shepherd looking for a loving and patient adopter who can help him overcome his shyness and blossom into the perfect boy we know him to be! This gentle soul takes some time to warm up, but his human and canine friends at the shelter have seen how wonderful he is once he comes out of his shell-- a loving, attentive, and intelligent boy who loves to take his time on walks and enjoys the finer things in life! While he was originally surrendered to us due to not getting along with the other dogs in his home, Cooper has made quite a few canine friends at HES, and loves spending time with them in play groups. He is not the most active player with other dogs, but seems to love being around them, and gains confidence with their support. He has played with friendly dogs of many sizes and energy levels, and as long as they are not too pushy, we think he would enjoy being in a home with other dogs. He would also be fine as the only dog in the home, as long as his adopter is willing to give him some space as he decompresses. A quiet, laid-back home would be ideal for him. Take a little time to get to know him, and you'll fall in love with Cooper just as we all have!

Story
Meet Sydney, a serene and affectionate Belgian Malinois Shepherd mix with a heart as gentle as her gaze. Sydney is the definition of calm—nothing seems to faze her. She’s incredibly dog and cat friendly, and her low to medium energy level makes her a wonderful match for a peaceful home. Sydney is being fostered in a loving home in San Antonio, TX, where she gets along beautifully with her German Shepherd foster sister. Sydney walks beautifully on a leash and makes an excellent walking buddy for those who enjoy quiet neighborhood strolls. However, her true happy place is outside—she absolutely thrives in a yard where she can explore, relax, and enjoy nature. A home with outdoor space is a must for this sweet girl. Potty trained and polite, Sydney is well-mannered around the house. She's a little shy when meeting new people or visiting unfamiliar places, so she’ll need a patient and loving family willing to give her time to settle in. Once she trusts you, she’ll show you her soft, affectionate side and soak up every bit of attention you're willing to give. Sydney is also a cozy cuddle buddy—she loves curling up next to you on the couch for some quiet bonding time. While she’s not a fan of car rides, Sydney is happy living the homebody life. She’s currently looking for a foster or adopter in Central Texas who can offer her the calm, consistent environment she deserves. If you're looking for a gentle, loyal companion, Sydney is ready to make your heart her home. Story
Meet Carly! Carly was named after her fosters neighbor came over to meet the puppies. He has a thick southern accent and he was saying “curly” because her hair is wavy but it sounded like he was saying “Carly.” Carly was dumped at the shelter with her mom and siblings, but we scooped them up to give them a chance at a great life. The mother is a smaller Shepherd mix so we expect them to be around 40 pounds when they grow up. Carly is the smallest of the litter and absolutely precious. She’s tiny, but mighty! She doesn’t let her brothers boss her around. She is very confident and is ready to start the next chapter.
