Story
I may be retired from motherhood, but I'm just getting started on the best chapter of my life. Hi! I'm Xyla, a 5-year-old red Golden Retriever, former professional mama and current full-time sweetheart. After raising puppies, I'm finally learning what it's like to just be a dog and let me tell you...I highly recommend this "being spoiled" lifestyle. I can be a little shy when we first meet because I'm still learning that people can be wonderful, but once you've earned my trust, prepare yourself, I fully expect belly rubs, ear scratches, cuddles, and compliments about how beautiful I am. I was born to be someone's favorite. Speaking of favorites...I'd really prefer to be yours. I get along well with other dogs but if I'm being honest, I'd much rather be the star of the show. Why share the spotlight when it could all shine on me? Now, let's discuss my dining preferences. My foster mom calls me a "picky eater." I prefer to think of myself as a canine food critic with exceptionally high standards. Most dog food? "No, thank you." If you find something I actually want to eat, congratulations you've unlocked an achievement that few humans have managed. I'm worth the extra effort, though. When I arrived in rescue, I was carrying around a few extra pounds, so I'm on a healthy lifestyle journey. Healthier meals (the ones I approve of, obviously), fewer treats, and getting my steps in...one wag at a time. About those walks...I'm learning! Leashes are still a bit of a new adventure for me. And yes, I have opinions. If I decide I've walked far enough, I simply sit down. My foster mom then enters the negotiation phase, complete with encouragement, sweet talk, and sometimes a little convincing before I'll continue. You could say I'm stubborn. I prefer "confident in my decisions." At home, I'm an easygoing girl. When life gets busy, you'll usually find me tucked away in my open crate or another cozy spot, enjoying a well-earned nap or quietly watching my family go about their day. I'm perfectly happy just being near my people. I'm also working hard on my potty training and have started telling my foster family I need to go outside by waiting at the door. Like any dog settling into a new home, I may have a few accidents at first, but I'm making great progress. I'm already spayed, microchipped, up to date on my vaccines, and current on my preventatives. All that's missing is a family who will love me for exactly who I am—a sweet, affectionate, slightly stubborn, delightfully picky princess who has spent her whole life taking care of everyone else and is finally ready for someone to take care of her. If you think we sound like the perfect match, I'd love to spend the rest of my happily ever after by your side. Story
We got Misty last summer because she stole our hearts. It is safe to say that the care dogs need was underestimated. We have strived to do our best to get her out for walks and take care of her. We don’t have a yard and have 3 small children. It’s overwhelming to deal with it all. Misty is an incredibly well behaved dog. She knows basic commands and is house trained. She is just over a year old. She is the most cuddly dog I have ever known and thinks she is a lap dog, it is very sweet. I know that Misty deserves better than what I can offer her at the moment.
