Story
Kobe is a very beautiful and handsome 2-year-old and 64-lb Doodle — but please read his description carefully, as he is a dog that needs consistent training with clear boundaries. Kobe was surrendered by a family with young children and his energy was too much for their growing family. When he first arrived at Pet Rescue, he was full of pent-up energy which resulted in excessive barking, jumping, and mouthiness. One of our volunteers took him under her wing and discovered that the best approach is to calm him first. Speaking to him in a soft, calm voice, petting him with soothing strokes, and rewarding calm behavior has made all the difference. When he is relaxed, he can go for a walk. High-value treats, reassurance, and calm pets help redirect him when passing people and other dogs. Once he trusts you, he is affectionate, calm, and much easier to handle. He walks nicely beside you, does not pull, and shows little reactivity. When he is overstimulated, he becomes jumpy and mouthy. Kobe will need regular exercise where he can run off his energy and then he enjoys quiet affection. He is intelligent, eager to please, and most of all, wants to be part of a family. Kobe is looking for a calm home (without young children) with a consistent daily routine that provides him with structure, boundaries, and exercise. If you think you are Kobe's perfect match, please submit an application directly to Petrescue website at www.ny-petrescue.org and we will set an appointment. Only applications submitted directly to Petrescue will be considered.

Story
Sutton - 3 years & 70lbs, Aussiedoodle, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Thier Foster Says: Sutton is the gentlest, sweetest horse boy you've ever seen. He's a big guy at 70 pounds, but he folds himself into the cutest little ball and wants nothing more than your love. When he's ready for pets, he nuzzles right into your lap, and he melts when you talk to him, touch him, and tell him he's a good boy (which he is, constantly). He's shy for the first couple of minutes with new people, gets his sniffs in, and then turns into a total cuddle bug with everyone. After just one week with me, Sutton has his routine down. He's up around 7 for a long morning walk, has a shorter stroll at lunch, another long walk in the evening, and a quick lap around the block before bed. By day three he was letting me know when he needed an extra potty trip. On walks he's a dream: he barely pulls, and he keeps glancing back at me to make sure he's going the right way. The sniffs and the new friends along the route are his favorite part. He's polite with other dogs, choosy about who he plays with, and smart enough to steer clear of any dog that seems unfriendly. City noise is still new to him (loud trucks can startle him), but he's settling in a little more every day. At home, Sutton is the ultimate work-from-home buddy. He plops down on his bed next to me and naps until it's time to go out, and some days he's so cozy I have to coax him up for his walk. He follows me from room to room because he just wants to be near his person. He ignores the couch but loves the foot of the bed at night, where he's a very considerate co-sleeper with no sprawling. He doesn't chew anything, doesn't guard his food or toys, and stays quiet when the doorbell rings. He isn't very food-motivated (peanut butter is a hard pass so far) and tends to save his meals for dinner, but he responds beautifully to his name, verbal cues, and praise. He's sweet, sensitive, and loyal, and he'll make someone a wonderful companion/" Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  TOLERANCE TO CITYAdjusting to the city – Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well in quiet areas and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue).  POTTY TRAININGYes – Few or no accidentsCOMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSIn between bean – Fine with meeting new people but not particularly interested, kind of shy in busy social situations like a gathering or a packed day in the park.BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Yes for most ages – very confident, gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthySOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSYes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other caninesRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.) Not sure – Wants to chase squirrels and birds so may not be a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc.MOUTHY BEHAVIORPast this stage– Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in their mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtimeSEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)Adjusting – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise.LEASH MANNERSOld Pro – Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.CUDDLE BUG LEVELHigh – Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the timeJUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLOListens to correction – Only jumps on people they know when really excited, stops with correction.CRATE TRAININGNot at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses. This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2860561##

Story
At just 14 weeks old, Zoey is the cutest little doodle fuzzball looking for a loving family to call her own! With her fluffy coat and adorable face, she is sure to steal your heart. Zoey and her sister, who look so much alike they could pass for twins, came into ROOT Rescue’s care after their family unexpectedly had to leave the country without them. Through no fault of their own, these two young girls found themselves starting over at such a tender age, and we are hoping to help them find the forever homes they deserve. Zoey is a sweet, loving, and spunky little girl who brings plenty of happiness wherever she goes. When we say she has puppy energy, we mean bouncy, playful, and always ready to have fun! Like any puppy her age, Zoey is still learning about the world around her and will need a family prepared to guide her through all the exciting, messy, and rewarding stages of growing up. Zoey is up to date on her age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, vet-checked, and dewormed. She has not yet been spayed because she is still too young for the procedure. Her adopter will be required to bring her back to ROOT Rescue at approximately six months of age to complete her spay, which will be covered by the rescue. She is also still working on her potty training, so her future family should be prepared for accidents, consistency, patience, and plenty of positive reinforcement as she learns. One important thing to know about Zoey is that her beautiful, fluffy doodle coat will require regular maintenance. Her fur can become matted without proper care, so consistent brushing at home and regular professional grooming will be essential to keeping her coat healthy and comfortable. Her adorable teddy-bear appearance comes with a lifelong grooming commitment that prospective adopters should be ready to take on. Although puppies are undeniably adorable, bringing one home is a big responsibility that requires thoughtful planning. Zoey will depend on her family for training, socialization, veterinary care, grooming, exercise, and companionship as she grows into adulthood. Life can bring unexpected changes, but having a plan in place for your pets is an important part of responsible adoption. Zoey and her sister have already experienced an unexpected change in their young lives, and we hope their next chapter will be filled with stability, security, and unconditional love. Zoey is ready to start her next chapter with a family who understands that raising a puppy takes time, patience, and commitment. In return, you will have the opportunity to watch her grow, learn, and develop into the wonderful companion she is meant to be. If you think Zoey could be the perfect addition to your family, we would love to hear from you! For more information, please email info@rootrescue.org or visit www.rootrescue.org. Be sure to follow ROOT Rescue on Facebook and Instagram for more photos, videos, and updates on Zoey and all of our adoptable pets. Healing begins at the root. Adoption Fee: $850

Story
Melo is a handsome 80-pound boy (2 years old) looking for a family who can give him the time, attention, and love he deserves. This big, cuddly teddy bear has so much love to give and absolutely loves being around his people! Melo is an owner surrender whose family made the difficult decision to find him a new home because they simply no longer have enough time to dedicate to him. Sometimes, loving a pet means recognizing when they need more than you can provide, and ROOT Rescue is committed to helping Melo find the forever family he deserves. Melo is wonderful with children and loves to cuddle, making him a great companion for a family looking for a loving, affectionate dog. His previous family describes him as high energy because he loves to play and have fun. At the same time, Melo does well when left home alone and reportedly spends most of the day sleeping. He is the perfect size for a family that enjoys outdoor adventures, hiking, and staying active, but he will also happily enjoy downtime with his favorite people. Melo is potty trained and was previously crate trained, although he no longer uses a crate because he had access to free roam in his previous home. He is accustomed to apartment living, but due to his large size, his family would prefer a home with plenty of space for him to stretch out and enjoy himself. A home with room to play and a family willing to include him in their daily activities would be ideal. Melo will need some continued leash training, as he tends to pull a little during walks, although he generally stays close to his person. With consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, he can continue improving his leash manners. He is dog friendly, while his compatibility with cats is currently unknown. Like many dogs, Melo has a few funny quirks that his future family should know about! He has a particular interest in socks and tissue paper, so be prepared to keep those items out of reach unless you want them to become his next favorite toys. His future family should also be prepared for the grooming commitment that comes with his coat, as he will require regular maintenance to keep him looking and feeling his best. Melo is up to date on his vaccinations, microchipped, vet-checked, and dewormed. He is scheduled to be neutered on Monday, so by the time he finds his forever home, his neuter procedure will already be completed. Melo is looking for a family who understands that a large dog comes with a big commitment, but also an incredible amount of love. He would thrive with people who have the time to play with him, take him on adventures, continue working on his leash manners, and make him a true part of the family. Whether it is a hiking trail, a long walk, or a cozy evening at home, Melo is ready to share life’s adventures with his people. If you are looking for a big, affectionate companion with a playful personality and a heart just as big as his paws, Melo might be your perfect match! He deserves a family who will give him the time, space, and companionship he has been missing. For more information, please email us at info@rootrescue.org or visit www.rootrescue.org. Be sure to follow ROOT Rescue on Facebook and Instagram for more photos, videos, and updates on Melo and all of our adoptable pets. Healing begins at the root. Adoption Fee: $750
