Story
Macie Grey spent years living most of her time with a feral cat population, near the coast. She was thin and sad and infested with fleas. In one of her pictures, you can see that this brave dog had lost much of her coat and was very thin and dejected, and most likely lonely, but she carried on. Those days are now behind her! Macie Grey is on her way to living her best life. Estimated to be 8-10 years old and about 55 lbs, Macie Grey is going to be a strikingly beautiful Goldendoodle once her coat grows in and she gains some weight. She was gifted a spa day by the groomer at the vet's office to cheer her up, and she loved it! Look at how proud she looks after her spa day wearing her little purple bow! She is a very gentle dog with a lovely personality. She enjoys attention, especially when people speak softly to her and pet her. She met dogs at our vet clinic with a wagging tail, and cats have been her friends for years. Macie Grey walks nicely on a leash without pulling, and she has a low energy level; thus, easy companionable walks are on her wish list. One of her favorite things is soft Milkbone treats, which she absolutely loves. She is otherwise not a good eater but we're working on that. Macie Grey is a smart dog. One night her kennel door was latched incorrectly, and she figured out how to open it. In the morning, she was discovered enjoying herself exploring the vet clinic! True to her Golden side, she loves all people and sometimes leans into you when you pet her (the Golden Lean!). Not surprisingly, Macie Grey tested positive for heartworm and is currently being treated. She is spayed, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. She is taking an inexpensive anti-inflammatory medicine to help with weakness in her hips, something she will need in her new life. However, this sweetheart doesn't let anything stop her, and puts her front paws up on a car seat, ready to go! Macie Grey seems to know she's on her way to her happiest days. Macie Grey will be an awesome companion. She will be ready to travel to her home in early June but don't wait to ask about this nice and very deserving dog. She is ready for a home where she will never feel lonely again. If you would like to be part of Macie Grey's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Candy to be considered to adopt Macie Grey. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to lean more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. SGRR ADOPTION FEES - Effective May 1, 2020 (subject to change) $750 Puppy - up to 6 months $650 Young 6 months - 6 years $550 Senior 7 - 9 years $450 Senior 10 years and older $550 Young Special Needs $400 Senior 7+ Special Needs $1000 Young Bonded Pair $900 Senior 7+ Bonded Pair A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog. Story
ARYA - 8 years old, Doodle Mix, 63lbs, Female (Spayed) Arya is available for Foster to Adopt. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the subject line ARYA if you are interested. Please read everything below and submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org if this pup seems like a good fit for your family :) Home Recommendation: Arya would be really happy in a home outside of the city. She would thrive in the suburbs! She would also be okay in a home in a more calmer part of the city where she has access to greenspace. She's currently being fostered in Brooklyn near Prospect Park and is doing well there! Arya isn't the type of pup who can live in an area like midtown. Arya is great with other dogs (outside of her home). She has no problem greeting dogs or hanging out with dogs but she can't live with anotehr dog as she is possesive of toys.  ARAYA is an Intermediate level adult dog. This means that ideally the adopter has primary dog ownership of a breed or energy level similar to this dog. At a minimum the adopter should have solid experience doing things like dog sitting, or fostering dogs of a similar breed. Adopters should be comfortable with taking care of this breed or similar breeds.  Her Foster Mom Says: Arya is SUCH a love. Incredibly friendly, sweet and eager with all humans and dogs. She’s active, social- I get the impression she hadn’t had much focus on her or regular exercise in some time, so she’s got a lot of energy to get out, and she’s definitely a dog who needs regular exercise. She’s fully house trained and knows sit, shake, lie down commands. She’s a cuddly couch & bed girl, but will get down if asked or nudged. She’s a big chewer, loves bones and chew toys and likes to play tug and fetch (but is super respectful of human belongings and body parts). We’re working on pulling on leash, she’s making a ton of progress, it’s worst in the mornings when she’s most jazzed. With a little training, she could be a really great running partner for someone. She’s a focused walker, not as much of a stop & sniffer, and responds to direction well. We’re also working on barking at certain noises- outside generally planes/helicopters and scooters/bikes/skateboards and indoors it’s door closing noises. She’s made big progress on the inside barking already. She’s super food motivated and eager to please, which has been making training correction/redirection easier. We’ve been going for an 60-75 min walks in the morning in prospect park, then a 30 minute walk in the afternoon. At night depending we will do either a quick night walk or we pop out to my backyard. She only pees and poops on grass or leaves etc, not on the street or pavement. She approaches the world with eagerness and sweetness. She’s good in the car, and seems to adapt pretty easily as long as she has attention, exercise, food and love. She’s really such a good girl- everyone who meets her falls in love, Her sweet face and soulful eyes win people over, and she’s eager to please and treat motivated, so training with her has been great. She’s pretty perfect! Whoever ends up with this sweet girl will be getting a really great companion." Energy Level  Medium - -  This dog will need a solid continuous 60 minute walk (at a minimum) in addition to potty breaks/relief walks/shorter walks. Working breed dogs were bred to do jobs so it’s super important to make sure that they get the right level of exercise and stimulation daily. Working breed dogs need more than just simply being “let out in the yard”. Cuddle Level Medium - - Arya is a medium level of cuddle bug. She loves to get attention from her people but doesn't need to be touched or cuddled 24/7.  Potty Training  Fully Potty Trained - - Arya is fully potty trained. She doesn't have accidents.  Comfy With Strangers  Yes - - Arya is very comfortable with strangers. Loves to say hi to new people.  Mouthy Behaviour  Past this point in her life - - She only chews on things she's supposed to like toys or bones. Keeps her mouth off of human limbs and isn't destructive.  Social With Children?  (ALWAYS requires supervision) Yes - - Arya is okay to be in a home with respectful kids. She is gentle.  Social With Dogs? Yes - - We know that this dog is good with other dogs. But, every dog has their own version of how much they want to engage with another dog. For example not every dog is going to love the dog park. It’s important to keep social interactions brief at first and work your way up as you get to know the dog more. Arya has no problem greeting dogs on the street!! She's great with socializing with other dogs (outside of the home). But, she is pocessive of toys so she can't live with another dog in the home.  Social With Cats? Not Sure - - We do not know if this dog is good with cats. Better to air on the side of caution and say no. We are able to cat test for approved adopters.  Leash Manners  Greatly Improving - - She’s moving from getting the hang of it to being an old pro (adding a harness in place of collar helped as well).  Separation Anxiety  Nope - - fine being left home alone. Is calm and quiet waiting for your return.  Crate Trained Nope - - Her current foster parents aren't using a crate for her. She is respectful of the home and doesn't need it. She prefers to be where she can see her person but will sleep on floor or bed or couch PLEASE NOTE: This animal is not at the Social Tees office — all of our dogs and cats are in foster homes while they wait to find their forever families. :) If you’d like to apply to adopt this pet, please complete an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Because we are a small team and receive hundreds of applications each week, we are unable to respond to every application and every inquiry email, but we do our best. Please have patience! If your application is approved, you will for sure hear from us. If you have questions, please take a look at the Adoption and Fostering FAQs etc. on our website as all common questions are answered there. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we work to save these innocent lives!!  LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org; Instagram via @socialteesnyc; Facebook.com/socialteesanimalrescue
