Story
Smokey is a big sweet guy that was rescued by Animal Control. A kind neighbor called the shelter about a “large, black dog” roaming the neighborhood. Animal Control went out to pick up this gentle giant. Smokey was never claimed by his owners and he is now available for adoption. Smokey has all of his vaccinations, he is heartworm negative, he has a microchip, and he has been neutered. He passed his behavior test with flying colors! Smokey is about two years old and is a Great Dane mix. He weighs in at just under 75 pounds! Is there room in your home for this big nice fellow?

Story
Please make sure to read the narrative below our pet's photos as you will find a description of our pet with all we know about them, our adoption fee info, and you will find the link to do our online Adoption Application which is the first step in our Adoption Process!     Please read ALL below where you will find answers about the pet, our adoption fees and how to do our adoption application!   Pet Description:  Sadie us a six-year old spayed female Great Dane, about 80 lbs.  She was surrendered to us for not getting along with the two other Danes in the home.  Here at the Shelter we have found that she gets along with any dog we have tried that is smaller than her.  So let's go with that - any partner dog needs to be smaller than her and she is fine with very small dogs.  She will also be fine with children say over 10 years old.  She is housetrained, wants to be a gigantic lap dog, walks great on a leash and loves attention.  Now one thing we found - she went 'off' when one of our staff was wearing cowboy type boots the first time she saw them.  That staff member went and changed to tennis shoes and Sadie was perfectly fine - was the boots, not the person.  She did it one other time with someone wearing boots. Now since she has calmed down and no longer reacting negatively to our staff members wearing boots.  BUT, keep that in mind as she might react to a NEW person wearing boots.  We can all surmise all we want as to why and we have our thoughts but be aware.  She also does seem to definitely favor women so Sadie will definitely need to meet everyone in the family.  And yes, to some a six-year-old Great Dane is a senior she should have many years of love yet to give as she is not a huge Dane.   DOG ADOPTION FEE is $100. This Adoption fee includes: mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV & Bordatella Intranasal); de-wormings; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test if over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch; certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more.  (If a dog is sponsored or has a waived or lower fee, that info will be provided at the point of adoption to the approved adopter).   The first step is to our Adoption Application here:  https://elmorehumane.org/adoption-application-online-form2.html .   IMPORTANT – we respond to your emailed applications and queries via email back to you.  Please make sure you have either added our email  (hselco@bellsouth.net)  to your contact list or that you routinely check your SPAM folder for our response just to be safe. If we do not receive a timely response we simply move on to another applicant.   To learn more about us, visit our Website at: http://www.elmorehumane.org;  Phone: (334) 567-3377 Fax: (334) 567-8774 E-mail: hselco@bellsouth.net May 12, 2026, 8:49 pm

Story
Tiny is NOT a “tiny” girl! She is a two-year-old Great Dane mix that was found by a kind passerby on a busy street in downtown Montgomery! Animal Control was called and Tiny made it to the shelter. We noticed that she was very thin so we immediately started her on some good nutritious food. She was never claimed by her owner and now she is ready for adoption. Tiny has all of her vaccinations, she is heartworm negative, she has a microchip, and she has been spayed. On her behavior test she did very well and was not interested in any other dog that was introduced to her. Tiny will be a big girl so keep that in mind if you are thinking about adopting her. If you live in an apartment or rent, please check with your management to see if there is a weight limit on the size pets you can bring in to live with you. Tiny has already been on a foster field trip and the family loved her. They said she was great with kids and other dogs. They did discover that she did not care for cats or small livestock like ducks or chickens. So farm life will not in the Tiny’s future! We are confident that the perfect home for Tiny is out there somewhere!!

Story
Layla is a sweet and energetic dog. She is house and crate trained, and I have started leash training and she is picking it up fast. She knows the basic commands, sit, lay, shake. She is great with people, kids, other dogs, but she does not get along with cats which is why we need to rehome her. I hate to have to give her away but it would be best at this time. We actually rehomed her from someone else.
