To help streamline the adoption process and ensure we have the necessary information about potential adopters, please follow these steps:1. Understand the Difference: Submitting an inquiry or application on Adopt-A-Pet is not the same as applying for the dog or cat. Inquiries provide us with minimal information about the potential adopter, making it challenging for us to evaluate suitability.2. Submit an Application: We kindly ask that you submit an adoption application on our website to be considered for adoption. Please choose the appropriate application link below based on whether you are interested in adopting a dog or cat:~ Apply here (DOG): https://davincisdream.org/dog-adoption/~ Apply here (CAT): https://davincisdream.org/cat-adoption/3. Be Patient: Keep in mind that we are a volunteer-based organization, and we receive a high number of inquiries and applications. Due to these constraints, we may not be able to respond to every inquiry individually. However, submitting an application provides us with the necessary information to consider you as a potential adopter.**TRANSPORTS**We are based in Columbia, KY, and extend our services to other locations through our transport program. To ensure the safe and responsible transport of our animals, we currently only transport to these destinations: Greenwood, IN, Wilmington, OH, Washington, PA, and Lake City, FL.To be eligible for transport, dogs/cats must meet specific criteria:1. Approved Application: You will need to submit an adoption application for the animal and receive approval. Please also note that clicking the "I'm Interested" button on PetFinder is not an application. To start the adoption process, you need to fill out an application on our website.2. Deposit Paid: A deposit must be paid as part of the adoption process.3. Transport Contract Signed: The potential adopter must sign a transport contract, indicating their commitment to meet the dog on the designated date. The "Transport" label next to each animal's name signifies that this animal is available for transport, but please remember that this transport service is exclusively for dogs that meet the above criteria. This ensures the safety and well-being of the animals throughout the journey. For more information about our transport process, please visit our website here: https://davincisdream.org/transport/READ ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES: https://davincisdream.org/adoption-fees/**ADOPTION FEES**To view the adoption fees for our animals, please go to the "Dogs" or "Cats" tab and select "Available Dogs" or "Available Cats." We strive to provide you with all the information you need right here. Please understand that due to the high volume of inquiries, we may not be able to respond to questions covered in this FAQ section.1. Are your dogs potty trained?Unless the dog's bio specifically states that they are potty trained, you can assume they are not. Many of our rescue dogs come from challenging circumstances and may not have been exposed to housetraining. Housetraining is typically the responsibility of the adopter.2. Do you transport to other locations?Currently, we transport to Wilmington, Ohio, Greenwood, Indiana, Washington, PA, and Lake City, FL.3. Is this cat/dog still available? If the cat or dog is listed on Adopt-A-Pet and does not have an "adoption pending" tag on the website, we are still accepting applications. However, please be aware that we often receive multiple applications for each animal.4. How long does it take to hear back about my application? It can take up to 10 days to receive a response from us. If you do not hear back within this timeframe, please understand that we may have chosen not to move forward with your application. We are a volunteer-based organization and, while we read every application, we may not be able to respond to each one individually.Thank you for your interest in adopting one of our fur babies and for taking the time to review these FAQs. Your support and understanding of our processes are greatly appreciated as we work tirelessly to find loving homes for our rescue animals.

Story
Hank is a two year old Great Dane mix who is looking for a home with a patient adopter. He is learning to trust people and needs time and encouragement to show him that things are not scary.  Earning his trust is extremely gratifying - he is a sweet, scared boy who is learning to love affection and the comforts of his foster home.    Hank likes inappropriate chewing (but he is learning) and enjoys quietly chewing small pieces off of soft blankets and toys. He likes to follow other, more confident dogs. Hank ignores our cat, is house trained, and has excellent leash manners. He is crate trained and is working on being less reliant on that safe space as he learns to explore his world.    Hank would be a great fit for a home with another dog to show him the ropes. Due to his size and his tendency to flee from scary things or sudden movement, he probably would do best in a home without younger children. If you have ever wanted to watch a dog truly blossom in your love and care, this big guy could be the one for you. June 5, 2026, 7:30 pm

Story
Hello, I'm Sadie! A friendly and playful girl looking for my forever home! My time here at the shelter has been amazing but I'm really ready to find a family and couch all of my own. I’m hoping to find a family who will see the unique bond I can create and let me be their one and only loyal canine companion, trust me there’s plenty of me to go around! I love to play ball and tug-a-war, go for walks and lounging around watching some good movies and taking naps! As a bonus, I'm already house-trained and a pro at walking on a leash, so you won't have to worry about any accidents or pulling on our adventures together, I might also have a trick or two up my sleeve! If I get adopted I promise to be by your side through thick and thin, providing endless love and fun. I’ve been waiting so patiently to find my special someone and show them how wonderful life can be with a dog like me by their side. Could that someone be you? Apply to adopt me today and let's find out!

Story
Name:  Lucy Age: 2 years Weight: 95 lbs Adoption Fee: $350.00 Good with Dogs?  Yes, but she can be a little pushy so a mellow dog would be okay   Good with cats?  Yes   Good with kids?  Yes, but due to her size she needs a home with kids who are at least 5 years old and used to being around dogs    Lucy was surrendered to a shelter when her owners were no longer able to care for her   She was very thin and had a serious case of happy tail (tail damaged from hitting it on things and it wouldn’t heal).   She is now a healthy weight, has a nub tail and we did a Gastropexy (stomach tacking) when she was spayed).  We were told she has a chicken allergy so she’s been eating lamb and rice food, with no issues.     She has no idea how big she so her goal in life is to be a lap dog.   Lucy is sweet and loves being the center of attention.     Don’t wait!  Get your application in now for this amazing dog.  Lucy is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested, micro chipped and had gastropexy surgery.   Her adoption fee is $350.00.     Adoption Process: Step 1:     Complete a "no obligation" application located on our website at pawprintsnky.com under the applications tab. Step 2:     PawPrints will review the application, verifying Vet and personal references as well as landlord requirements/restrictions (if applicable) Step 3:     IF your application is approved, we will call you to schedule a meet and greet for you to meet the pet. &#226&#128&#139Step 4:    If the meet and greet goes well, we will schedule the home visit.          March 16, 2026, 12:18 am
