Story
Hansel is a calm, confident adult dog with a steady presence and a deeply devoted heart. Now fully grown, he carries himself with quiet assurance, balanced by a gentle and affectionate nature with the people he trusts most. Naturally intelligent and attentive, Hansel is quick to learn and appreciates clear guidance and routine. He enjoys structured activities, engaging play, and outdoor time where he can stretch his legs and take in his surroundings. Thoughtful and observant, he tends to assess new situations carefully before jumping in, showing a maturity that makes him feel wise beyond his years. Hansel forms strong bonds with his family and is happiest when he knows everyone is together and safe. While he may appear reserved at first, his loving personality shines through in subtle ways — leaning in for quiet affection, staying close by your side, and offering steady companionship throughout the day. Story
Thor is a one-year-old Great Dane and Lab mix weighing 71 pounds, and his story already reads like the opening scene of a movie. Found running loose through a Tennessee neighborhood, this big, beautiful boy was moments away from tragedy when fate—and a young dog lover—stepped in. Twice Thor ran in front of her car, and instead of driving on, she stopped, opened her door, and called to him. Without hesitation, Thor leapt into the back seat as if he knew his life was about to change. And it did.   With no collar and no microchip, Thor became part of Critter Cavalry Rescue and stayed with the very woman who saved him. From the moment he was safe, his true nature began to shine. Thor is strikingly handsome, with chiseled features and expressive ears that nearly stand straight up, giving him a regal, alert look—like a show dog who wandered off the Westminster runway and into a superhero origin story.   But don’t let the model looks fool you. Thor is pure joy wrapped in a giant puppy body. He tosses toys into the air, pounces on squeaky treasures, and delights in balls and stuffed animals with the enthusiasm of a dog who is still discovering how fun life can be. He doesn’t quite realize how big or strong he is yet, but his heart is gentle and his spirit is eager.   Thor is intelligent, focused, and deeply people-oriented. When you work with him, he locks onto you completely, especially if treats are involved, which makes training both effective and fun. He is wonderful with other dogs, showing no dominance or alpha behavior, just friendly curiosity and easygoing charm. Recently neutered, Thor is still growing and will likely fill out into a solid 90-pound adult over the next year.   He is housebroken and currently learning that being alone doesn’t mean being abandoned, as crates aren’t quite his favorite place. Thor simply loves people and wants to be near them, soaking in companionship and reassurance. His liver-and-black coat shifts with the sunlight, turning heads wherever he goes, and making him unforgettable long after he’s passed by.   Thor is the kind of dog who comes into your life once and leaves a permanent mark on your heart. He is waiting for someone to guide him, shape him, and grow with him into the extraordinary companion he is clearly meant to be.     If you are interested in making this big boy a big part of your life please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. Tell us where you live, city and state.   We adopt to Tennessee where our rescue is based and he is being fostered, but we also transport to the Northeast   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 11, 2026, 12:09 am

Story
Roo is a 2–3 year old Blue Merle Great Dane adult who weighs 85 pounds and was found abandoned by a well-known lake in Tennessee.  Someone rescued her from this terrible fate of no food or clean water and no place to be as she was wandering around the lake area very skinny and starved.  She was so grateful when someone took her home.  She then had different people foster her only for a few days at a time until this wonderful family saw her plight and need and said.....let us take her and foster her with a good rescue group.  Now this big girl named Roo has some stability in her life and has earned the nickname “Velcro dog.”  Of course this lost and abandoned girl who was deserted by a lake and then bounced a few times, wants to be right by your side and soak up every ounce of love and attention you’re willing to give her.  She will learn one day that noone is ever going to abandon her again.  This athletic girl has plenty of energy, loves to play with a happy spirit and and is an impressive olympic class jumper. She will thrive best in an active home.  Food definitely motivates her and this makes it super easy to train her and get her undivided attention. Roo is house-trained, crate-trained, cat-friendly, and absolutely loves to snuggle in the bed with her humans.    Roo bonds quickly and becomes very protective of her people so we will have tips on how to temper that zealous enthusiasm to claim you. She needs a family where she can be the queen of the castle and receive endless love and attention in return. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will stick by you through everything, Roo is your girl!       Please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested.  She is currently fostered in Tennessee and can be adopted locally and also can transport to a loving family that is northeast of Tennessee.  We transport almost weekly on the weekends.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comApril 24, 2026, 1:06 pm

ONLY AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION IN NEW JERSEY AND LOCAL SURROUNDING AREAS!!! If your application is a possible match, a volunteer will get back to you within 48 hrs. No inquiries, please, without an application. Gus is a 3-year-old Great Dane with the gentlest soul. Until very recently, his world was a dirt-floor basement in a rough urban area, living in truly deplorable conditions. No warmth. No comfort. No chance to just be a dog. We were able to get him out just before the snowstorm, but now he urgently needs what every dog deserves — a warm, quiet place to rest, recover, and finally exhale. Despite everything he’s endured, Gus is incredibly sweet, well-mannered, and affectionate. He is very thin and lacking muscle, clearly from a long period without proper nutrition or exercise, but he is food-motivated, eager to please, and so grateful for kindness. Gus did live with cats and other dogs previously, but right now we believe he would thrive best in a home where he can decompress on his own, at his own pace. He needs time to feel safe, to build strength, and to learn what a normal, loved life looks like. If you have room in your heart — and a warm spot in your home — to foster or adopt, you won’t just be giving him shelter. You’ll be giving him the chance to heal and discover the life he was always meant to have. If you are interested in Gus, please go to bfdaaa.com to complete application.  March 17, 2026, 12:07 am

Story
Bodie is a typical Great Dane who hasn't had an easy life so far. But all of that changed in Nov. Bodie was found wandering the streets of West Virginia looking for food and a safe place to curl up. He was picked up and taken to the local shelter where he was scheduled to be euthanized because they were (and often face) being completely out of space. He hitched a ride to NJ where he landed in foster care with a family who already have 2 dogs: a 36lb spaniel mix and a 14lb Havanese. Bodie was delighted to be inside and have a full belly. The foster family has children that live in the south, so after a week's respite in NJ, Bodie was packed up, along with the 2 family dogs and hit the road for a 2 week road trip to visit the kids and their dogs. Bodie is a Great traveler. He smoothly shifted from one stop to the next as long as he had his humans in tow. He rides great in the car (although likes to rest his head on your shoulder while riding). We visited a house with a fenced back yard as well as a townhouse where he needed to be leash walked and Bodie handled it all like a champ. He doesn't love his crate as he would much rather be sitting on the couch next to you, but on the few times we weren't able to bring him along he waited in his crate for our return. Bodie has visited 2 separate off leash dog parks where he felt everyone, both human & canine were simply friends he hadn't met yet. The estimation is that Bodie is about 4yrs old. He came into foster care stiff and sore but over time he has loosened up and has started to act more and more playful. He is incredibly affectionate and seems to believe he is "lap dog" size. He thrives on attention and will happily lean into you for hours of pets and cuddles. What Bodie wants most in life is to be where is people are, so if you prefer your personal space, Bodie is not the dog for you. Having a Giant Breed dog is different than even the largest of Golden Retriever or Lab. He can rest his chin on the stove top and currently believes if he can reach the food - he should have the food. We spend some time each day wiping off counters. We think there was a significant amount of time where Bodie didn't know where his next meal would come from, so right now we are feeding him 3cups of dog food, 3 times a day and he still always seems to be hungry. He could stand to put on a few pounds, but we don't want him to put on too much weight as that wouldn't be great for his structure. Because he takes mealtimes seriously, we feed Bodie in his crate in a puzzle bowl so he knows his meals are just for him. That being said, he shows no signs of food aggression and takes treats sitting next to the other dogs with zero issues. We just want him to know he's safe and will always have a full belly. There were some concerns about his hips while he was in shelter so they ran blood work and x-rayed his hips, and everything appears to be where and what it should be. Bodie is a bit of a drooler when he drinks but the only time we "duck for cover" is when he shakes his head just after drinking. We cannot say enough amazing things about Bodie. He is an absolute love bug. But we want his adoptive home to be his final home - so please think carefully if a giant breed is right for you and your household. Our 14lb. Havanese is not a fan of Bodie as he gets stepped when Bodie isn't paying attention. So please consider anyone or animal in your home who might not appreciate Bodie's size. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Bodie will have a loyal companion and friend for life. Are you who Bodie's been waiting to find?       If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our application. Meetings will not be scheduled without an application.
