ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)     Sweet 5m old 38lbs sisters Kara from Arkansas.  She came in with her Kora They can be adopted together or separately.   All dogs are located in NY/NJ areaAll our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social.     Facebook: Zani's Furry Friends ZFF (weekly adoption event info posted there)Twitter: zanisff Instagram: zanisfurryfriends   Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!)  All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport.  Please go to our site  https://zanisfurryfriends.org  fill out an application  Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.   Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate! If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent  Follow us on FB, Zani's Furry Friends ZFF, for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Hansel is a calm, confident adult dog with a steady presence and a deeply devoted heart. Now fully grown, he carries himself with quiet assurance, balanced by a gentle and affectionate nature with the people he trusts most. Naturally intelligent and attentive, Hansel is quick to learn and appreciates clear guidance and routine. He enjoys structured activities, engaging play, and outdoor time where he can stretch his legs and take in his surroundings. Thoughtful and observant, he tends to assess new situations carefully before jumping in, showing a maturity that makes him feel wise beyond his years. Hansel forms strong bonds with his family and is happiest when he knows everyone is together and safe. While he may appear reserved at first, his loving personality shines through in subtle ways — leaning in for quiet affection, staying close by your side, and offering steady companionship throughout the day. Strong yet gentle, protective yet tender, Hansel is a loyal and dependable friend who brings comfort, stability, and heartfelt devotion to his home.

Story
Thor is a one-year-old Great Dane and Lab mix weighing 71 pounds, and his story already reads like the opening scene of a movie. Found running loose through a Tennessee neighborhood, this big, beautiful boy was moments away from tragedy when fate—and a young dog lover—stepped in. Twice Thor ran in front of her car, and instead of driving on, she stopped, opened her door, and called to him. Without hesitation, Thor leapt into the back seat as if he knew his life was about to change. And it did.   With no collar and no microchip, Thor became part of Critter Cavalry Rescue and stayed with the very woman who saved him. From the moment he was safe, his true nature began to shine. Thor is strikingly handsome, with chiseled features and expressive ears that nearly stand straight up, giving him a regal, alert look—like a show dog who wandered off the Westminster runway and into a superhero origin story.   But don’t let the model looks fool you. Thor is pure joy wrapped in a giant puppy body. He tosses toys into the air, pounces on squeaky treasures, and delights in balls and stuffed animals with the enthusiasm of a dog who is still discovering how fun life can be. He doesn’t quite realize how big or strong he is yet, but his heart is gentle and his spirit is eager.   Thor is intelligent, focused, and deeply people-oriented. When you work with him, he locks onto you completely, especially if treats are involved, which makes training both effective and fun. He is wonderful with other dogs, showing no dominance or alpha behavior, just friendly curiosity and easygoing charm. Recently neutered, Thor is still growing and will likely fill out into a solid 90-pound adult over the next year.   He is housebroken and currently learning that being alone doesn’t mean being abandoned, as crates aren’t quite his favorite place. Thor simply loves people and wants to be near them, soaking in companionship and reassurance. His liver-and-black coat shifts with the sunlight, turning heads wherever he goes, and making him unforgettable long after he’s passed by.   Thor is the kind of dog who comes into your life once and leaves a permanent mark on your heart. He is waiting for someone to guide him, shape him, and grow with him into the extraordinary companion he is clearly meant to be.     If you are interested in making this big boy a big part of your life please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. Tell us where you live, city and state.   We adopt to Tennessee where our rescue is based and he is being fostered, but we also transport to the Northeast   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 24, 2026, 3:44 pm

ONLY AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION IN NEW JERSEY AND LOCAL SURROUNDING AREAS!!! If your application is a possible match, a volunteer will get back to you within 48 hrs. No inquiries, please, without an application. Gus is a 3-year-old Great Dane with the gentlest soul. Until very recently, his world was a dirt-floor basement in a rough urban area, living in truly deplorable conditions. No warmth. No comfort. No chance to just be a dog. We were able to get him out just before the snowstorm, but now he urgently needs what every dog deserves — a warm, quiet place to rest, recover, and finally exhale. Despite everything he’s endured, Gus is incredibly sweet, well-mannered, and affectionate. He is very thin and lacking muscle, clearly from a long period without proper nutrition or exercise, but he is food-motivated, eager to please, and so grateful for kindness. Gus did live with cats and other dogs previously, but right now we believe he would thrive best in a home where he can decompress on his own, at his own pace. He needs time to feel safe, to build strength, and to learn what a normal, loved life looks like. If you have room in your heart — and a warm spot in your home — to foster or adopt, you won’t just be giving him shelter. You’ll be giving him the chance to heal and discover the life he was always meant to have. If you are interested in Gus, please go to bfdaaa.com to complete application.  February 15, 2026, 6:23 pm

Story
Baloo was surrendered by his previous owner. Since arriving at the shelter, he has been kenneled with other dogs with no issues, and staff have not observed any issues with him. Baloo knows sit and shake and walks perfectly on a leash. He deserves a loving home - his time is almost up and he needs an adopter ASAP to save him. A foster to adopt program is available if you are willing to give Baloo a chance at a happy home with you! Read out! We are working to save as many dogs from southern shelters and place them into loving homes. These shelters are high kill shelters and these dogs are urgently in need of an adopter to save their lives. These are good dogs that had crappy owners who dumped them or just turned them out and the dogs were picked up as stray and taken to the county shelters, left unclaimed. The county shelters fill up quickly and they euthanize (kill) simply because they run out of space for dogs to be. We offer adoptions for any dog we post. We can provide videos, pictures, answer as many questions as we can on the dog for you, etc. We can even do video chat with the dogs (these must be scheduled) if time allows. If you want to adopt but are unsure of a dog because you haven’t met him or her….we offer a adoption foster period program. This is where you adopt the dog and agree to a certain time period trial – usually 2-4 weeks (depending on when transport is running from here to there) to let the dog decompress in a normal home setting and settle in and make sure it’s a good fit for you and the dog. If it isn’t a good fit, we can pick the dog back up when our transport returns to your location but you have to agree to keep the dog safe during the time he/she is with you until we are able to pick the dog up. The adoption fee is non-refundable BUT if the dog is not a good fit for you or you’re not a good fit for it and it’s returned, we do allow you to pick another dog to adopt and transfer the fee to that dog (we will only do this one time), this is not a rotation puppy game. We have been doing rescue for many years (the Director has been doing this for over 30 years). We are pretty good at matching a dog to a person, family, etc. Be honest with us at what you are looking for, what matters to you and what will work best for you and we will be honest with you if you’re interested in a dog that’s not going to work for you. Our adoption fees include all up to date vetting (vaccines, spay/neuter, microchip, and any other medical needed by the dog while in the ownership of the rescue). It will also include the transportation to your area (not to your house, you might have to drive a little to pickup the dog depending on where transport stops to meet up with people). Let’s partner together to save a dog and find you your next fur-family member.

These pups are in Rockaway, New Jersey too!

Story
Meet Loki Dixon. Don't let the name fool you, this Loki  has officially retired from mischief and is using his powers for good. At almost 3 years old and 77 lbs, this handsome Anatolian Shepherd mix is less “god of chaos” and more “god of cuddles, loyalty, and very polite walks.” Loki is gentle, friendly, and wonderful with people, kids, and other dogs. While Loki may be a little shy at first, give him some reassurance, a little time, and maybe a confident canine buddy to show him the ropes, and you’ll see him blossom into the amazing hero he was always meant to be. Loki wakes up every morning wagging his tail like he’s ready to save the world (or at least go for a walk). Speaking of walks — he walks beautifully on a leash and would happily be your daily adventure sidekick. He’s incredibly loving, loyal, intelligent, and eager to please, especially if treats are involved. Peanut butter? Ball time? You have his full attention. Loki already knows sit and off, is housetrained, easily redirected, and is very treat-motivated (his secret weakness). Despite his timid beginnings, this sweet boy’s superpower is his heart — once he trusts you, he’s all in. Loki is microchipped, neutered, up to date on vaccines, and his adoption fee is $415.  He may share a name with a comic book villain but this Loki's only scheme is stealing hearts.  Loki is eager to join your pack, so apply at EHRDOGS.ORG and be sure to ask for LOKI DIXON.
