Story
Coconut is a 1-2 year old Great Pyrenees with an old school soul. Coconut loves his belly rubs and walks. He will hog all of the air vents in the house to cool down. Coconut loves car rides especially sitting in the front seat. He prefers to lay on the floor at home but will jump on the couch once in awhile. Coconut thinks he is a 60 pound lap dog and will demand to be treated that way, he will create a spot on your lap for himself to lay. He loves treats and squeaky toys. Coconut loves to be outside and has to be bribed to come back inside by squeaking his toy. This young boy does need to learn some manners. He tries to get food off the counter, but won’t beg at the table as long as you tell him to lay down. He is great on the leash and won’t pull. Coconut loves other dogs and kids of all ages, even toddlers. He is potty trained as long as he is taken out regularly. He will lay in the kennel but doesn’t typically sleep in it, just there for short stents of time. He definitely would benefit having a fenced yard but would be fine being taken out on leash as well. He has been known to chase squirrels and cats.  Coconuts's adoption fee of $300 covers his neuter, vaccines, microchip with registration, flea preventions, and heartworm preventions. To make him a part of your family, please apply at gfrpets.org/apply ##1817591##

Story
Disney is a 6 year old male. He has been waiting for his perfect home for a very long time. He is a good boy most of the time but can present some challenges which include the behavior of an untrained, goofy puppy at times. We have learned what triggers that behavior and how to avoid and stop it. Disney is our Peter Pan Pyr. He can't seem to 100% grow up, still loves toys and is a fun happy boy. Disney has matured into a very handsome 90 pounds. We will be looking for an experienced adult only home committed to house training (manners) and working obedience into his everyday life. He needs structure and routine. Disney does have house expereince, is fine in a crate for a reasonable length of time, loves car rides and is quite the affectionate boy. He is good for the groomer and vet, walks well on leash with the right collar and does well with most other dogs. Even though he is good with most all other dogs he prefers human attention. His best match will be as an only dog home with play dates or doggy day care to give him some canine socialization. If placed with another dog, a resident female would be his best match. Please contact us if interested in adopting, fostering to adopt or fostering. Adoption info and application can be found at gprci.com Securely fenced yard for safe outside potty and play time will be required.

Story
Nimbus is a handsome 6 year old male with special needs in regard to his personality. We are looking for some very specific things in an adoptive home due to his shy and skittish behavior. Nimbus has a flight history (6 months on the run before being trapped) before coming to our program and although he has improved a lot socially over time, he still panics at change in the routine and social circle he has come to know. He loves hugs and attention and belly rubs from those he trusts. We would like to find an adopter close enough who can visit him multiple times to build some trust before adoption. A few specifics about Nimbus: -He should do well with a well socialized, dog friendly, large breed female canine companion. -He walks on leash unless startled (is easily startled), and although every time is very frightening for him, has learned to ride pretty well and handles well at the vet and groomer. -Once aquainted he loves hugs and attention. -He will require house training and work on marking behavior. -Adult only home with a rescue baggage experienced adopter willing to work with him to become the best he can be. He will always be a shy skittish dog. -Securely fenced yard no less than 5 feet in height for safe yard time. -A more rural home with a larger fenced yard as he needs some space and a busy neighborhood would be overwhelming for Nimbus. If you think you could be the the special adopter Nimbus needs please contact us by email for more information. Adoption info and an application can be found at gprci.com

Story
Following is a list of our sanctuary dogs with brief descriptions. We try to evaluate each new rescue carefully in regard to temperament and the reality is that sometimes we get a dog that displays behaviors we can manage here at the rescue but that we are not comfortable placing with most or any adopters. These behaviors usually involve their guardian breed characteristics and a lack of proper socialization and experiences when younger but can also just be their genetic personality and temperament. Being in a more rural and controlled situation here at the rescue, rather than in a busy and /or neighborhood environment, we can insure a consistent routine and monitor everyone closely. We work to insure all the sanctuary dogs have the best quality life possible. They have heated and air conditioned large inside kennels with Kuranda beds, outside runs and a 4 acre yard to play in, patrol and guard. We also integrate inside the house time into their routines as space and personalities permit but they still require their kennel space part of the time and in certain situations. The dogs are matched up in compatible play pairs or groups based on their personality so they have friends to play and patrol the yard with. All of our sanctuary rescues are fully vetted and kept up to date on any and all needed vet care as well as groomed regularly and worked with on training and manners. And very importantly, they are much loved, flaws and all. Please consider helping to sponsor the care of one of our sanctuary rescues. Contributions toward the care of the dogs at the rescue are helpful and greatly appreciated as well as tax deductible. Sadie....approximately 6 year old Pyrenees Komondor mix. Sadie was not socialized well when younger. Her lack of socialization has resulted in Sadie being untrusting and somewhat unpredictable with strangers, especially on home turf and with her strong guardian genetics. We changed Sadie's status from adoptable to sanctuary after she started exhibiting escalating territorial aggressive behavior toward strangers/visitors. Right now Sadie is the one sanctuary dog we would consider placing if just the right situation and adopter turned up. Female, rural home, secure fencing, limited visitors, abilty to secure from visitors, no other female dogs, very experienced, big guardy dog person. Bentley...9 year old male with confinement and separation issues with us since mid 2017. Bentley requires our heaviest fortress of a kennel when he cannot be outside or supervised closely inside. Not much holds this guy in or keeps him out of things if he puts his mind to it. He is smart and very single minded. It took a long time when he arrived but he has adjusted well now, feels at home and secure, and no longer needs the heavy anti-anxiety meds he arrived with. He has trained us well and with compromises on his part and ours, Bentley is content.

Story
Bart came to GPRCI as an unclaimed stray. He is estimated to be 3 years old and now weighs a healthy and solid 115 pounds. He is a very reserved guy who takes time to trust and will need a rescue expereinced adopter with the right situation for him. His DNA test is an example of how a dog can look like a Pyr Lab mix, but really have many breeds in his ancestry. Bart needs a more rural home with adults only, who will be willing to continue working with him, allow him the time he needs to trust and bond. He is treat and food motivated which has helped us make a lot of progress with him. Bart has done well with a female dog playmate/kennel companion. We have not tested him with cats yet but can do that. He has done well at the vet and the groomer. Adoption info and an application can be found at gprci.com

Story
Kimo is a two year old (B.D. 11/2/20) Great Pyrenees/Anatolian mix (the Anatolian part is not DNA verified) who is now ready to find his forever home. When he arrived at GPRCI we had no idea the journey he had ahead of him. Kimo was diagnosed with OCD in both shoulders that required surgery to correct. He fully recovered from that surgery and has been waiting a long time to find his forever home. It took many months to get into specialists and get the surgery done during covid lockdown, followed by recovery and rehab. Kimo is now a handsome 115 pound boy who at two years old is still very puppyish.  Kimo doesn't know a stranger in regard to people and gets very excited meeting new people. He has an exuberant personality and will require an experienced, in charge owner committed to continued obedience training and work on manners. He sits for treats and meals and before going in or out of doors. "Wait" is a work in progress and he is learning better leash manners, does fine at the groomer and rides pretty well in the car. He has some house experience and can be crated. Kimo has great potential but will take training, patience and maturity to become his best self. He tends to be overwhelming in play with other dogs and if placed with another dog it will absolutely need to be a female and the right fit, meaning a female that can and will appropriately correct. Kimo is not a good fit for kitties or young children.  Kimo will be placed as a companion and a securely fenced yard for safe outside time will be required.  If interested in adopting, fostering to adopt or fostering, adoption info and an application can be found at gprci.com Questions can be emailed to gprci.info@gmail.com

Story
where’s the doodle lovers?! Hi my name is Malinda, I am a 14 month old female bernedoodle, about 40 pounds. My backstory is sad but I'm hoping for the life I deserve now! I need the most patient loving parents to show me that people are good, please. I'm trying my hardest to learn this new pet life thing, especially potty training. I will need another dog in the home to help, as well as a fenced in yard. I love running in the back yard with the other dogs. I’m very much a puppy still and will require puppy training, I’m just a BIG pup. Malinda's $300 adoption fee includes her spay, vaccines, negetive heartworm test, heartworm prevention, flea/tick prevention, and microchip registration.
