Story
Greetings, friends! My name is Dusty, and I'm a five-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who weighs 61 pounds. I can be slow to warm up, but I'm friendly and outgoing once I get to know you. You'll soon discover that I'm happy, playful, and loyal. I'm a good boy who is house- and crate-trained. I'm not a fan of staying in the crate, although I tolerate it. My foster mom lets me stay loose in the house at night, and I sleep wherever I want because I'm a good boy. I enjoy car rides, know the sit and lay commands, and like scratches and cuddles. I love to play in the yard with other dogs, and I get along well with my canine foster sister. You'll discover that I get excited when meeting new dogs, which means I can be difficult to control on the leash. Although I'm an adult, I'm still a puppy at heart. I'd do best with children age 10 and up. My foster mom thinks I'll do well in a home with plenty of activity, and I'd love having someone home most of the time. I enjoy expressing myself, so no shared walls is best. My minimum adoption fee is $145 plus a $15 fee for rabies registration for McLean County residents.  I have been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. COURTESY POST.....Qualified applicants will be referred to owner for direct placement from his current home. Monty is located in the Hanover Park area. Monty is a handsome, much loved, young male Great Pyrenees. His owner finds herself in the heartbreaking situation of needing to rehome him due to her medical issues. GPRCI is assisting in finding a new family for Monty. He will be placed as an inside family companion. We cannot describe him any better than his owner and following is her description of Monty.... "Monty is a loving, affectionate and very energetic. He still has his puppy energy so he loves to play. But when he is tired he loves to lay with me or lay on the floor next to our chair and hold hands. He's been around people as old as 90 and also babies. He loves them all. Monty plays with dogs of all sizes and lives with cats. He is definitely a family dog. Monty has attended initial puppy classes and also a personal trainer. He knows all the basic commands and obeys them on Pyr time. He is house broken and crate trained. The only negative is his barking so he needs a family who can accept that. He would make an excellent choice for a family who still wants some puppy energy without the need for training." If you are interested in Monty please complete our application at gprci.com and note Monty's name on the application. Applications will be screened based on GPRCI basic adoption requirements and good matches will be referred to Monty's owner for further consideration.

Story
Following is a list of our sanctuary dogs with brief descriptions. We try to evaluate each new rescue carefully in regard to temperament and the reality is that sometimes we get a dog that displays behaviors we can manage here at the rescue but that we are not comfortable placing with most or any adopters. These behaviors usually involve their guardian breed characteristics and a lack of proper socialization and experiences when younger but can also just be their genetic personality and temperament. Being in a more rural and controlled situation here at the rescue, rather than in a busy and /or neighborhood environment, we can insure a consistent routine and monitor everyone closely. We work to insure all the sanctuary dogs have the best quality life possible. They have heated and air conditioned large inside kennels with Kuranda beds, outside runs and a 4 acre yard to play in, patrol and guard. We also integrate inside the house time into their routines as space and personalities permit but they still require their kennel space part of the time and in certain situations. The dogs are matched up in compatible play pairs or groups based on their personality so they have friends to play and patrol the yard with. All of our sanctuary rescues are fully vetted and kept up to date on any and all needed vet care as well as groomed regularly and worked with on training and manners. And very importantly, they are much loved, flaws and all. Please consider helping to sponsor the care of one of our sanctuary rescues. Contributions toward the care of the dogs at the rescue are helpful and greatly appreciated as well as tax deductible. Sadie....approximately 6 year old Pyrenees Komondor mix. Sadie was not socialized well when younger. Her lack of socialization has resulted in Sadie being untrusting and somewhat unpredictable with strangers, especially on home turf and with her strong guardian genetics. We changed Sadie's status from adoptable to sanctuary after she started exhibiting escalating territorial aggressive behavior toward strangers/visitors. Right now Sadie is the one sanctuary dog we would consider placing if just the right situation and adopter turned up. Female, rural home, secure fencing, limited visitors, abilty to secure from visitors, no other female dogs, very experienced, big guardy dog person. Bentley...9 year old male with confinement and separation issues with us since mid 2017. Bentley requires our heaviest fortress of a kennel when he cannot be outside or supervised closely inside. Not much holds this guy in or keeps him out of things if he puts his mind to it. He is smart and very single minded. It took a long time when he arrived but he has adjusted well now, feels at home and secure, and no longer needs the heavy anti-anxiety meds he arrived with. He has trained us well and with compromises on his part and ours, Bentley is content.

Story
Savannah and Drax were both adopted from GPRCI Savannah is 5 years old and was adopted in 2019, Drax is 4 and was adopted in 2020. Sadly they lost their adopter, who loved them dearly, to cancer so they are back with us. We will be looking for just the right home for this pair. Savannah is a purebred Great Pyrenees and timid with new people at first but then bonds strongly with her people. She is not good with other female dogs. Drax is a Pyrenees Anatolian mix and is more outgoing and loves attention from all. A securely fenced yard will be required for safe outsdie time. Adoption info can be found at gprci.com and questions/ request for detailed info can be emailed to Cindy at gprci.info@gmail.com

Story
Nimbus is a handsome 6 year old male with special needs in regard to his personality. We are looking for some very specific things in an adoptive home due to his shy and skittish behavior. Nimbus has a flight history (6 months on the run before being trapped) before coming to our program and although he has improved a lot socially over time, he still panics at change in the routine and social circle he has come to know. He loves hugs and attention and belly rubs from those he trusts. We would like to find an adopter close enough who can visit him multiple times to build some trust before adoption. A few specifics about Nimbus: -He should do well with a well socialized, dog friendly, large breed female canine companion. -He walks on leash unless startled (is easily startled), and although every time is very frightening for him, has learned to ride pretty well and handles well at the vet and groomer. -Once aquainted he loves hugs and attention. -He will require house training and work on marking behavior. -Adult only home with a rescue baggage experienced adopter willing to work with him to become the best he can be. He will always be a shy skittish dog. -Securely fenced yard no less than 5 feet in height for safe yard time. -A more rural home with a larger fenced yard as he needs some space and a busy neighborhood would be overwhelming for Nimbus. If you think you could be the the special adopter Nimbus needs please contact us by email for more information. Adoption info and an application can be found at gprci.com

Story
Disney is a 6 year old male. He has been waiting for his perfect home for a very long time. He is a good boy most of the time but can present some challenges which include the behavior of an untrained, goofy puppy at times. We have learned what triggers that behavior and how to avoid and stop it. Disney is our Peter Pan Pyr. He can't seem to 100% grow up, still loves toys and is a fun happy boy. Disney has matured into a very handsome 90 pounds. We will be looking for an experienced adult only home committed to house training (manners) and working obedience into his everyday life. He needs structure and routine. Disney does have house expereince, is fine in a crate for a reasonable length of time, loves car rides and is quite the affectionate boy. He is good for the groomer and vet, walks well on leash with the right collar and does well with most other dogs. Even though he is good with most all other dogs he prefers human attention. His best match will be as an only dog home with play dates or doggy day care to give him some canine socialization. If placed with another dog, a resident female would be his best match. Please contact us if interested in adopting, fostering to adopt or fostering. Adoption info and application can be found at gprci.com Securely fenced yard for safe outside potty and play time will be required.
