I found Henry a few months ago, and tried to return him to his owner. When we found his owner they all but admitted to dumping him and would not take him back. They provided his vet records and said he was good with cats. He has a very high prey drive so it’s not aggression he shows towards my cats but he chases and tries to bite them/pounce on them because he thinks they are prey/toys. He is such a good boy! He knows sit, lay, and stay. He is champ with his crate, he goes right in on command and enjoys being in there even voluntarily. He whines to be let outside and has never had an accident in the house. He likes to lay down and chill inside a lot but has burst of energy(zoomies) when you return home. He likes to play with rope toys and chew on bones and play fetch and tug of war. Henry is 3 years old and would love a lively home by himself, or with other dogs. He also enjoys being around lots of people so a big family would be a perfect fit!

Hi, I'm Luna Bear! I'm a 8 year old Great Pyrenese mix. I'm an older lady and have been in the shelter system for almost 3 years...I'm a lady of leisure and independence. I appreciate my own space, and while I may not be the life of the dog park, I offer a mellow companionship that's hard to find. I prefer a quiet home where I can relax and be myself. I'm not one for other dogs or cats, but I promise to fill your life with a unique kind of love. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2225509##

Brego is almost 5 years old and 105lbs. Needing to find a new home for him. Had him since he was a puppy. He is very calm and the epitome of big lazy dog. He has always got along with other calm dogs, but i think high energy dogs are too much for him to be around. He just went to the vet for a checkup and all is good. He is not fixed, but also not a requirement for me to rehome him. Grover is an Anatolian Shepherd mix who first came to us as a stray in March 2022. He was terrified and didn`t know anyone or where he was going. He got some much needed TLC from our staff and his confidence has since grown tremendously. He is more outgoing, treat motivated, and LOVES to hang out with staff at the front desk. He thinks he is a lap dog and can easily be found in someone`s lap or in a chair of his own! Grover is looking for a home with no kids and no other pets, as he wants to be your only baby! He is so loving and just needs time to adjust to a new home and environment. He needs a family that will give him time and have patience with him while he is settling into his new home. He is so loyal and will love you forever!
