Story
Meet Arlo – Your Loyal, Loving Guardian! This majestic Great Pyrenees is the definition of calm, sweet, and gentle. Currently being fostered in a loving home, he’s shown us just how affectionate and well-mannered he can be. He loves cuddling on the couch, lounging around the house, and playing with our two resident dogs – he’s a big fan of furry friends! True to his breed, he has strong guardian instincts and takes his role of protector seriously. You’ll often find him laying by the front door or at the entrances to rooms, always keeping a quiet, watchful eye over the home. Because of this, he does best with slow introductions to new people and situations. He would thrive in a home with a couple or a single woman looking for companionship and a loyal protector. He prefers to be indoors during the hot summer months, but come winter? He’s in his element! Nothing makes him happier than stretching out in the snow and taking it all in – he’s built for the cold and loves it, but he is an Indoor companion. He can get a bit anxious on walks and may need some extra training, patience, and reassurance to help build his confidence in new environments. With the right support, he’ll continue to grow into the secure and well-rounded dog he’s meant to be. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal dog who will be both a cuddle buddy and a steadfast guardian, this gentle giant could be the perfect match for you. Breed: Great Pyrenees Age: 2-3 years old Neutered: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Temperament: Calm, affectionate, protective Special Notes: May need additional training to build confidence on walks Ideal Home: Quiet environment with a couple or single adult, preferably with a fenced yard because outside time is awesome.

Story
(DOB 3/26/2024) General is heartworm positive and our rescue will treat him. For this reason, he is adoptable within 1 hour drive time of Wake Forest NC.  Introducing General, a charming pup with a heart of gold! Though he may be a bit shy when first meeting new faces, once he warms up and trusts you, he transforms into a giant teddy bear filled with love and joy. With his exuberant personality and happy-go-lucky demeanor, General is bound to bring endless smiles to your home. This delightful canine enjoys nothing more than belly rubs and gentle pets. He walks well on a leash and is eager to learn even more with the help of his treat-motivated spirit! A quick learner, he thrives on positive reinforcement, making every training session a fun adventure. General keeps his kennel clean and is well-mannered, but he doesn’t like being left alone. He would thrive in a stay-at-home or work-from-home family where he can soak up all the love and attention he craves. He is especially great with kids, though his playful exuberance means he may not realize how big he is, so watch out for those unexpected knocks! One of General's greatest joys is playing with other dogs—he absolutely shines in their company! Therefore, he’ll only be considered for homes with at least one other dog-friendly canine buddy to share his playful spirit and companionship with. While he’s incredibly social, he does have a propensity to roam if given the chance, so a securely fenced yard is necessary for his safety and happiness. General is also a great sharer when it comes to tug toys, but food is his treasure, and he prefers to enjoy his meals solo.  If you’re looking for a sweet and loyal companion who will fill your days with laughter and love, General is the perfect match! Come meet him and see how this gentle giant can steal your heart!  As part of General’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt General, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2297736##

Story
Meet Goldbug- a big, lovable sweetheart! He’s a Great Pyrenees mix-- so be prepared for him to be an extra-large dog when full-grown. Goldbug truly is a love bug- he loves being around people and gives a full body wiggle to say hello. He likes people of all ages, including kids. He’s just a friendly, lovable goofball. Goldbug is a confident guy and friendly with other dogs. He hasn’t been around cats or other small animals. Goldbug is playful and goofy. He loves to play fetch and tug of war, and chase around in the yard. He also enjoys relaxing on the couch at the end of the day and calmly supervising meal preparations. Goldbug appears to be pretty much house-trained when provided with frequent breaks and hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home. He walks well on a leash, and despite his size, he doesn’t pull. He doesn’t love being crated and gives some barks in protest, but he settles down quickly (within 5 minutes). Goldbug is a smart guy and very food/love motivated. He quickly learned ‘sit’ and ‘paw’. His forever home should continue working with him on puppy manners and basic training so he grows into the amazing adult he is meant to be.

Story
Poseidon is a 4.5-year-old Great Pyrenees/Husky mix with the perfect blend of gentle loyalty and goofy charm. At about 82 pounds, he’s a big, lovable companion who is equal parts soft fluff and steady calm. Poseidon is an affectionate boy who loves his people and enjoys nothing more than going on walks and being part of the daily routine. Indoors, he’s a low-energy, relaxed guy who is happy to lounge near you and soak up attention. He happily chills on his bed and on the floor; he does not like getting on furniture unless you ask him to. Outdoors, his Great Pyrenees side shines — he loves patrolling the yard and taking in all the sights and smells. A fenced yard isn’t required, but it would absolutely make him feel like he’s living his best life. Poseidon can be briefly vocal when someone comes to the door — he takes his job as “house guardian” seriously — but after a quick alert bark, he’s back to being his chill, friendly self. True to his livestock guardian heritage, he needs slower introductions to strangers. He sheds quite a bit (Pyrenees will be Pyrenees!), but his sweet personality more than makes up for the extra vacuuming. And if you really want to win him over, his favorite treat in the world is a peanut-butter bacon stick. A few things to know: Poseidon is not a fan of nail trims or vet visits. He’ll need an adopter who can help keep him calm beforehand, and he does best with medication or sedation for nail care. With patience and a gentle approach, he does very well. Poseidon would thrive with someone who appreciates a loyal, steady companion — a person or family who understands large-breed dogs and wants a buddy who is affectionate, protective in a healthy way, and easygoing around the house. He would do best in a home with teens or older, as he is big and can be pawsy and mouthy. If you’re looking for a big, loving dog who wants nothing more than to stroll by your side, nap at your feet, and be your loyal companion, Poseidon is ready to be your new best friend.

Story
Teddy is a friendly, devoted companion who enjoys hanging out with his human and dog friends. He loves visitors and kids! At around seven years old, he has energy to run around the yard and is equally content to relax and spend time with people around the house. He enjoys going for walks and will occasionally get the zoomies on leash. Although he’s a big dog, he’s not looking to make trouble and will settle down when asked. He may pause and watch other dogs or people as they approach, but he is not reactive. Teddy enjoys spending time in a fenced yard. Occasionally he will bark—not aggressively, but more as an announcement, likely channeling his Great Pyrenees livestock-guarding instincts. Teddy is becoming reliably house-trained and does need to go out every few hours to pee during the day. Overnight, he reliably sleeps for about eight hours. A tall guy, he may sniff to see what’s on a table or counter, but he responds well to redirection and will leave things alone when told. Teddy came to IAR from a local shelter, where he'd been picked up as a stray. He's neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and current on vaccines and preventatives. Teddy is ready for a person or family to welcome him and give him the chance to show his devotion.

Story
Hi, I am looking for someone to please adopt my puppy suki. She is the most sweetest kindest dog I have ever had. But she does have a problem with learning to potty train and hold it. I’ve tried to potty train her I sadly don’t have the time to anymore. It breaks my heart seeing that i am the third owner of her and i just wanted to give her another chance. But like I said I don’t have to time to take care of her anymore. I need someone who can take the time to teach her and give her lots of love that I wasn’t able to. She is a very great companion dog. She cheers you up when you’re down and knows how to do it.
