Story
Meet Lucy, a pup whose night-and-day transformation might bring tears to your eyes.  A few months ago when Lucy was found alone at an RV park, you wouldn’t have even recognized her. She was covered in mange, underweight and very uncomfortable. Thankfully a kind person kept her safe, sought medical help and never gave up on her. A foster home took Lucy in a month later. As her fluffy coat has continued to fill in, Lucy has also been doing internal work: learning to walk on a leash, learning to come into the house, learning to enjoy being petted. Lucy has made great strides and is now an absolute joy in a pint-sized package. She’s approximately 26 pounds at 7 months old and seems to be growing at a very slow pace. Her breed test showed that she’s a mix of large and small breeds. Great Pyrenees and Husky were the top two breeds, but she also had some small amounts of Chihuahua, rat terrier and miniature schnauzer. The breed test predicted her full grown weight could be as low as 33 pounds.  Lucy absolutely adores other dogs and would love a doggy companion in her forever home. She looks so happy when she’s outside playing a game of chase with her foster puppy friend Linus. But Lucy isn’t an overly energetic puppy, so even the old grumpy dogs don’t mind having her around.  Lucy will need a patient owner who will give her time to feel comfortable. New situations and new people still make Lucy nervous, but she has become very comfortable in her foster home where she takes naps on her back in hopes she might get a belly rub. Lucy now seeks out attention, but she would never jump on you trying to get it. She’s very polite and well behaved in the house.  Lucy is fully potty trained and loves being in her crate. It was her safe spot while she worked up the courage to fully incorporate into her foster family.  Lucy has had quite the journey, and we want to find a forever home that’s perfect for her. Please apply if you can give Lucy the heartwarming ending she deserves. If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
Jonah is a 4 year old Great Pyrenees looking for a very specific and committed forever home. He is a big, loving boy who needs an experienced adopter that understands guardian breeds and is willing to manage his quirks and advocate for his needs. Jonah requires a ranch style home with minimal stairs and a fully fenced yard. He needs easy, direct access to the outdoors without relying on walks for potty breaks. While he does enjoy playing with other dogs, a calm, easygoing Pyrenees or similar dog would be the best match, as his play style can be a bit much. He is reactive to other dogs while on leash but can coexist just fine with dogs in neutral environments like the groomer. True to his breed, Jonah has some guarding tendencies. He does not guard his food bowl, treats, or toys and allows handling while eating, but he will guard items he has stolen or discovered, especially anything he considers high value. Because of this, management and experience are key. Jonah cannot live with cats and has a very strong prey drive. If he were to catch something, he is unlikely to give it up. Jonah is stubborn on walks and can be unruly when excited to meet new people. He is submissive but lacks manners when overstimulated, so ongoing structure and consistency are important. He is not a fan of car rides and benefits from having another dog to help him feel confident getting in. Despite all of this, Jonah is an absolute love with his people. He is a huge snuggler, craves attention, and bonds deeply with those he trusts. He does well in a crate and settles nicely when given clear expectations. Jonah is not for a first time dog owner, but for the right experienced home willing to commit to him fully, he will be an incredibly loyal and affectionate companion. If you are interested in adopting this dog please complete the adoption application at www.rhodehomerescue.org/adoption-form to become a pre-approved adopter.   If you were already approved through Rhode Home Rescue within the last 6 months, contact us today! Story
Odin is a 7-year-old Pyrenees mix, with a heart as big as his paws and eyes that seem to speak their own language. From the moment he found his way to his foster family, Odin’s gentle nature and playful spirit began to shine. Despite weighing in at 99 pounds, Odin is essentially a lap dog—content to curl up beside his humans wherever they are. He loves being part of every moment, whether it’s snuggling on the bed, joyriding in the car, or walking by their side. His people are his absolute favourite thing in the world. He loves to get attention and pets, and will put his big head in your lap when you’re sitting down. From his gentle taking of treats to his soft, expressive eyes, Odin is as sweet as they come. He’s friendly when meeting other dogs and humans while on a leash walk and he’s treat-motivated and eager to please. His playful energy, affectionate nature, and loyalty make him a great buddy. Odin is a social and friendly companion who enjoys being around people of all sizes, shapes, and ages. While he thrives in a loving, active household, he does best in a home without cats. He currently lives with other dogs but doesn’t need them, he mostly ignores them. In fact, he doesn’t really get along with other large, dominant males and would prefer a home either as the only dog, or with small dog companions. He can be a typical great Pyrenees in some ways - he can be stubborn and he loves to wander. But he doesn’t love to be outside by himself, he prefers to be outside with his humans. Odin is crate trained and fully potty trained. He is working hard on walking with a leash. He’s curious and loves the outdoors, especially his long walks! Apply today to adopt this amazing senior boy, he’s ready to live his best life! Odin is being fostered in RI and is adoptable throughout Northeastern states. *All breed listings are educated guesses and not guaranteed*

Story
I can be met by appointment at my foster home in Crompond, NY, please email info@pawsafe.org. Meet Lucy! Headline: The Ultimate Family Cuddle Bug & Joyful Gentle Giant! If you are looking for a massive heart wrapped in a gorgeous cream-colored coat, look no further than Lucy! At just over 2 years old and a sturdy 86 pounds, this Great Pyrenees mix is the perfect blend of a happy young dog and a soulful, loving companion. Lucy is an absolute dream when it comes to people. She lives with five children (ranging from toddlers to teenagers) and adores them all. Strangers are just friends she hasn’t met yet, and she greets visitors with happy excitement. Are you looking for a snuggle buddy? Lucy would happily cuddle 24/7 if you let her. She is the ultimate morning dog, waking up every day completely overjoyed and happy just to see her human family. The Model Citizen Lucy is fully housebroken and has impeccable manners around resources. You can touch her while she’s eating, take away a bone, or pet her while she’s lounging on the couch, and all you’ll get is a happy tail wag. She is also an angel at the vet's office—calm, quiet, and friendly with the staff. While she isn't a fan of the crate, she can be left alone loose in the house completely trusted; she might bark for a few minutes when you leave, but she quickly settles down to wait for your return. The Great Pyrenees Personality Because Lucy is a Pyrenees mix, she comes with some classic, endearing (and independent!) breed traits. She has a strong instinct to protect her domain, which means she will bark to let you know what's going on outside. She also possesses that famous "Pyr stubbornness"—she likes to do things on her own timeline! She enjoys her daily walks but truly thrives when she has a large, securely fenced yard where she can patrol, dig, roll around in the grass, and just be a dog. The Ideal Home Lucy gets along great with other dogs, maintaining a polite, neutral attitude, and she would absolutely love to have a canine brother or sister in her new home to keep her company. Her perfect match is an adopter who understands or appreciates guardian breed tendencies, has a spacious fenced yard, and has plenty of room on the couch for an 86-pound lap dog. If you're ready for endless affection, a cheerful companion, and the best cuddles of your life, Lucy is ready to meet you!
