Story
Get ready to welcome Maggie into your heart! This adult female pup is a friendly soul who gets along well with her canine (large and small) companions, adults and children. She is very gentle, loves to have her ears and belly rubbed.  She smiles when excited.  She's good on a leash but occasionally sees something she'd like to check out and will pull to let you know she's found something.  She Likes going for runs in the park.  She LOVES her treats but is shy about taking them from your hand.  Found as a stray, Maggie is eager to find her forever family and fill your life with love and tail wags. With a hopeful spirit, she's ready to leave her past behind and embark on new adventures. Could you be the one to show her the joys of a loving home? If you are interested in her, please send an email with a completed application to SCP <scpdogworld@gmail.com>. Applications can be found on our website at secondchancepets.org under the "Forms" tab. Please complete and return to us for review and to set up a meet and greet!  Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home. The adoption fee for a dog is $210 (or $270 for puppies). All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas.   Adoptions are held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clear Lake Petco, 2410 Bay Area Boulevard.  Since all our dogs are in foster homes, an individual dog may not be at our weekly Adoption Event due to conflict with a foster's schedule. If you are interested in meeting a particular dog prior to filling out an application, please send an email to scpdogworld@gmail.com so that the Dog Coordinator can let you know if the dog will be at the Saturday Adoption Event at Petco. If you just want to meet some other great dogs looking for their forever home, please come visit with us on Saturday!May 19, 2026, 8:52 pm

Story
This is Gracie. She is a beautiful, sweet, loving girl. She has had a rough start to her life, she spent the first 4/5 living in Alvin on the streets. She had many litters unfortunately due to no one taking care of her. I took her in and helped her have one last pregnancy. She is now fixed, and very happy and healthy. She is the most loyal dog I have ever met. She loves kids and plays well with other dogs. Her tail has a mind of its own and she is an excellent companion. This is hard for me to do. The reason I’m rehoming her is because we got chickens in our forever home and unfortunately she decided to “play” a little too rough and 10 out of 16 chickens died. She has a lot of curiosity when it comes to small animals such as chickens and bunnies. I do not recommend she lives in a home or with someone who might want these things. Up until that point we never had an issue. I just want her to go to a good home. She deserves a good life.

Story
Meet Zara — a sweet, playful Pyrenees mix with a gentle and submissive personality. This girl is the perfect combination of fun-loving adventure buddy and cuddly companion. Zara has a moderate energy level with adorable bursts of excitement, especially when it comes to her favorite activities: fetch, tug-of-war, chasing balls, carrying sticks, and playing outside. If you throw a toy for her once, be prepared because she’ll happily bring it back 100 more times!Zara is both potty trained and kennel trained, making her an easy addition to a home. She gets along well with other dogs and has shown no issues with guarding toys or food. She comfortably eats in her crate and has done great sharing space and toys with other pups. She’s also non-reactive on leash, not fearful, and has shown no aggression at all.She previously lived with children ages 5 and 7 and did wonderfully with them. Because she’s still a little mouthy when playing with toys, she may be best suited for a home with slightly older kiddos who can help continue her good manners. While Zara enjoys being close to her people and may follow you from room to room, she does not show signs of separation anxiety. She’s simply a loyal girl who loves companionship as much as she loves playtime. If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate dog who’s always ready for a game of fetch and then a cuddle on the couch, Zara may be your perfect match.Zara is currently in a loving foster home in the Houston, Texas area. She is able to travel out of state and we can typically arrange transportation. Adoption application: https://www.this-is-houston.org/adopt/adopt-application
