My name is Ted, but mostly my hooman calls me Big Guy. I'm maybe 3 years old. I wandered into my hoomans front yard trailing my leash, but a search near and far hasn't found my people. So here I am looking for a new forever home! I come mostly when called unless I am busy sniffing something I love in the big back yard; I also sit and shake on command. I'm very treat motivated and will sit and wait until told it's OK before gently taking the goodie from my person. I use the doggy door like a pro and love to get brushed and petted, often laying my head on my hoomans lap. I'm a great watch dog and protector of my person. I need a family to love me! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fun playful girlMs Kalei is smart, sweet, and a bit of a goof. Great with other dogs. She is a gentle giant.  She is looking for a home where she has a dog buddy. Kalei is crate trained.   She knows sit and is working on other commands.   Kalei loves adventure and would love nothing more than exploring new walking trails or riding in the car. She is a great dog and will make a fabulous family member. Ms Kalei has not had a lot of luck. She was hit by a car when she was very young and came to the rescue with a broken leg. As soon as her leg was healed, we discovered she had a damaged hip as well.   Kalei has had a hip replacement from the car accident, her broken leg and her hip are both good as new - or bionic! She runs and plays with the rest of the pack.     Kalei is looking for a family that will love her forever!  =========================================================  Please contact app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . Puppies that are under 4 months old cannot be adopted outside of our Veterinary Service area. Please call for specific locations. Children under 8 years old often are not a good match for our puppies and dogs. In order to protect both, your child and our rescued dogs/puppies from harm, we seldom if ever adopt to families with young children.  Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events. Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you. Story
Sweet Ringo is a 2yr old ball of fun! He is a complete goofball that has no idea of his size. He desperately wants to be a lap dog. He has a dog walker that is trying to get him used to walking on a leash. He reminds me of a lab in personality. He desperately wants a friend to play fetch with. He is completely houstrained and crate trained. He also knows a few basic commands. I know he's capable of so much more but the time to teach him isnt there. Due to unfortunate work situations he is spending way too much time in his crate. He will come with his crate and a bag of his dog food.

Story
Hey there, pals! The name's Dexter, and I've got a tail-wagging tale to share with you. 🐾 I'm what they call a sweetie and an adventure lover. At first, I might seem a tad shy, but let me tell you, once I get to know you, I'm all about the love and cuddles. You won't find me causing a ruckus; I'm a bit reserved and prefer to keep things on the calm side. Now, about those house manners...well, I've been living the kennel life for a while, so I could use a helping paw in that department. But hey, I'm a quick learner and eager to please! My story began when I was just a pup, found in a park with my mom and two brothers, all thanks to the wonderful volunteers at Animal Aid Brigade. Life's an adventure, and I've embraced it with open paws. I've always been a good pup, but my brothers and mom found homes right away. I, on the other hand, was a bit shy, so I decided to take on a job at the kennel. Why, you ask? Well, I love other dogs, and I wanted to help them since I knew what it's like to be abandoned. For the past year, I've been proudly employed as an ambassador for the rescue group, welcoming new arrivals and showing them the ropes. It's been a great gig, but I've decided it's time to move on from the kennel life and find a family to call my own. Meeting new people might make me a bit insecure, but I'm a social butterfly with other dogs, and I adore some good, rough play. So, I'd be the bee's knees in a home with another dog as my partner in crime. Now, what I need is a patient and understanding adopter who can help me transition to home life with new people. With a little love and guidance, I know I can be the perfect companion you've been searching for! If you're ready for a sweet, adventure-loving, cuddle enthusiast who's just a tad shy but full of love, I'm your guy. Let's embark on this new adventure together, shall we? 🐶❤️

Story
This beautiful soul has been on an incredible journey, enduring a challenging stay at the shelter, waiting and hoping for a loving forever home. Despite his stunning looks and heartwarming personality, Apollo remained overlooked for months. He's a dog who's seen the worst of it yet still holds onto hope and love. Finally liberated from the confines of the shelter, Apollo's enthusiasm for life knows no bounds. His heart is filled with joy, and he's ready to share that boundless affection with a family who sees the gem he truly is. Apollo's a big boy with an even bigger heart. He adores the company of other dogs and revels in playtime. However, he thrives on structure, guidance, and plenty of activity. Smart as a whip, Apollo's intelligence and quick learning skills will astound you. This sweet boy, at around 3 years old and weighing between 60-65lbs, deserves a home that matches his spirit—a place with experienced, loving humans who understand the needs of a larger dog like him. Living in Houston, Apollo has bravely battled heartworm, a common challenge in these parts. But fear not, Scout’s Honor is ensuring Apollo receives the best care. Whether you choose to adopt him now or after he's cleared, we'll continue covering his medical expenses, ensuring he gets the care he needs. He's a fighter and with your support, he'll come out stronger than ever. If your heart swells at the thought of giving Apollo the home he dreams of, please consider fostering or adopting him. Start the journey by filling out an application at www.scoutshonor.org. Your love and compassion could be the key to unlocking Apollo's happily ever after. Story
Introducing Bowser!   This adorable 6 month old pup was found scavenging for food and living behind a Target!  No mama or siblings were found and this little guy was all alone and very frightened. We are pretty sure he has never had a family to love him. Bowser is sure to grow into a well-mannered and obedient companion with a family that can give him time and space to learn that humans aren't all that bad and go slow.  He would love to be with another dog to help give him confidence! He is doing well taking cues for older dogs and is braver with them around. He also LOVES to play with them.  Right now he is living with Scouts Honor Alumni Scooby (formerly Max) and socializing at doggie day care! He's started his shots and is scheduled for neuter.  April 21, 2024, 9:22 pm
