Story
Meet Leo! 🐾 Leo is a 4-year-old, 17-pound Havanese/shih Tzu mix (our best guess) who is an all-around good boy. He may take a quick minute to warm up and learn to trust, but once he feels safe, his sweet personality shines through. ❤️ Leo absolutely loves other dogs and is wonderful with people. He’s learning the ropes in his foster home—doing his business outside, discovering toys, and learning that he is finally safe and loved. 🥰 This sweet little guy is making great progress and is looking for a patient family who will give him the time and reassurance he needs to blossom. Leo has so much love to give and is going to make someone a very special companion! 🐶❤️

Story
Meet Oreo! 🖤🤍 At around 8 years old and 25 Lbs, Oreo is proof that it’s never too late for a fresh start. This sweet, perfectly mannered boy is currently being treated for a skin infection that was allowed to go untreated for far too long by his previous owners. The good news? He’s healing beautifully, and as he feels better each day, his wonderful personality is shining through. Oreo loves his people, enjoys the company of other dogs, walks beautifully on a leash, and is perfectly housebroken. He’s the kind of easygoing companion who would fit right into almost any person or family’s life. Oreo also has dry eye, which is easily managed with daily eye medication. He takes his drops without any fuss, and this simple routine will need to continue for the rest of his life. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle companion who asks for little but gives so much in return, Oreo may be the perfect match.

Story
Patty is a 2-year-old Havanese mix with a playful spirit and a growing sense of confidence. She came to us with a very matted coat, so she’s sporting a short haircut for now—but once her soft curls grow back, she’ll be looking like a little superstar! Patty is settling into her foster home and learning new things every day. Her previous home loved her, but didn’t have much time for training, so she’s still working on some basics. She’s leash trained, nearly housebroken, and absolutely loves toys—especially stealing socks, so guard your laundry! She’d do best in a home with no kids, and we’re still getting to know how she feels about other dogs. We’ll continue to update as we learn more. Patty is current on vaccines, heartworm negative, and will be spayed soon. With a little time and patience, she’s going to make a wonderful companion. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. You must begin our adoption process by applying to adopt on clawsadopt.org. Please do NOT inquire via Petfinder, social media messengers or in our comments. Story
Meet Toby, an 8 year old, 13 pound Havanese mix with a big personality in a little package! Toby is a people loving, spunky little guy who loves being with his humans. He has plenty of energy, loves attention, and is especially passionate about treats and anything edible! When Toby arrived at the shelter, he needed emergency surgery to remove one of his eyes. He has adjusted wonderfully and gets around just fine with his one eye. He does need three eyedrops a day, but his medication will be covered by the shelter for the rest of his life through our Continuing Care Program. Toby does tend to mark in new places, but we are hopeful this will improve as he settles into a home and gets comfortable. Toby has been through a lot, but he is still a happy, energetic little guy who is ready to find his people. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you. Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Please go to www.theshelterconnection.org for more information about and directions to the shelter.

Story
Left on a road at what the pound thinks is 18 years of age. And he will now be loved and warm and cared for until the day he dies. Oreo is blind, housetrained and a very sweet elder gent!He barks to let you know what he wants to go outside or is hungry but is independent and loving. Blindness has never kept him down. He has outlived what I thought he would and just love seeing him every day he has left. He used to growl when picked up, now he loves being picked up! We take him everywhere in the car which he likes and just had his dental done as well as his bloodwork which is GREAT! Nothing wrong with Oreo!! Go figure !
