Story
Moose is a handsome 8-year-old HavanesePoodle mix who came into rescue as an owner surrender and is now learning what it means to feel safe, comfortable, and understood. Hes a thoughtful and sensitive older gentleman who is looking for a quiet home that will give him space and time to warm up to new people and a new environment. Moose has made wonderful progress in foster care. He knows several helpful cues including sit, down, crate, jump up, and no, and he is now walking nicely on leash. He does well with the resident dogs in his foster home and tends to be submissive and respectful around them. While car rides were overwhelming at first, Moose is slowly gaining confidence and will now settle enough to take in the view once he relaxes. At home, he loves being close to his trusted people and especially enjoys sleeping on the bed, soaking up that quiet companionship. Moose does not enjoy frequent or firm touching and can become reactive when he feels pressured, particularly in stressful situations like vet visits, where a muzzle is used to help him feel secure. With his foster, however, Moose has made big strideshe now enjoys gentle petting, seeks closeness, and shows affection on his own terms. He is nervous around loud noises and sudden movements, and as an older dog with some joint sensitivity, he benefits from calm handling and respect for his physical comfort. Moose requires a strict diet of a prescription urinary food as he has an extensive history of bladder stones. He is also on daily medication to support his urinary health and this will also need to be given for life, along with encouraging water intake and adding water to his food to ensure he's getting lots. Due to allergies, Moose also receives daily allergy medication. A 1 month supply of all of his medication and prescription diet will be included with his adoption. This sweet boy has received quite a lot of medical care since arriving with Precious Paws, including a cystotomy (to remove bladder stones) and a full dental surgery so his mouth is much happier and healthier! Moose will require regular urine analysis checks to ensure he is responding well to his medications and prescription diet. Mooses ideal home is a quiet, patient household with plenty of space and a predictable routine. He would do best in an adult-only household with someone who is home more than not as she does suffer from separation anxiety and is quite noisy when he's away from his person. A calm environment, gentle leadership, and people who are willing to let trust grow naturally will help Moose continue to flourish. Moose definitely requires more care than some, but this sweet, gentle at heart boy is totally worth it! For the right family, earning his trust and watching him relax into companionship will be profoundly rewarding. With patience, respect, and a peaceful home, Moose will be a loyal presence who shows his love in quiet, meaningful ways. Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. All dogs will be started on a 6 week trial of pet insurance after adoption. Local adopters can take advantage of 50% off a training course at Ruff Haus in Barrie (www.ruffhaus.ca) and all adopters will also be signed up for Petcademy to offer 30 days of free text-based behavioural support. Story
Meet Mushu: Your New Best Buddy! Mushu is a charming 4-year-old 17lb male Havanese who is ready to find his forever home. True to the Havanese breed, Mushu is a "velcro dog" who loves nothing more than being near his people. Whether you’re working from home, relaxing on the couch, or heading out for a stroll, Mushu will be right there to keep you company with his wagging tail and soulful eyes. Mushu’s Personality & Highlights: Affectionate & Loyal: He thrives on human companionship and is a world-class buddy. He loves to cuddle right beside you to soak up all the pats and belly rubs you can give. Nap time, and will go to quiet spot to be alone. Friend to All: Mushu is good with people, children and other dogs, making him a social butterfly who fits right in with a furry sibling or during walks in the neighborhood. Medium Energy: Mushu has a balanced activity level. He is good with daily walks and absolutely loves his backyard time where he can explore and play. Adventure Partner: He is good on a leash and makes for a wonderful walking companion. He loves to sniff and explore all the interesting scents the neighborhood has to offer! His Favorite Things: Mushu absolutely loves his stuffy! You’ll often find him carrying his favorite toy around or curled up with it for a nap. Dog Friendly: Mushu is good with other dogs, making him a great fit for a home with a furry sibling. Ideal Home: Mushu is looking for a home where he won't be left alone for long periods, as he truly loves being part of the daily action. He is non descructive and finds a quiet place to wait for you to come home. A home with a fenced backyard would be ideal for his outdoor sniffing adventures. As with all Havanese, Mushu will require regular professional grooming to keep his coat healthy and comfortable. Please Note: Mushu has not been cat tested. Because we don't know how he feels about feline friends, a home without cats (or one prepared for very slow, careful introductions) would be best. Quick Facts: House-trained and well-mannered indoors. Perfect Size: A sturdy small-breed dog, ideal for both apartment living or a house with a yard. Curious & Bright: Mushu is a curious guy and loves to learn. He needs mental stimulation to keep his mind sharp—he’ll thrive with puzzle toys, learning new tricks, or engaging play sessions. Mushu is being fostered in Mount Albert. If you’re looking for a companion who is equal parts affectionate, playful, and loyal, Mushu might be the perfect match. ••••••••• As my foster family gets to know me my profile can change and will be updated accordingly.
