My foster mom laughs and says I look like an emu. I’m not sure what an emu is, but I do know I love being outside. There are so many things to smell, places to explore and reasons to wag my tail! I’m discovering lots of new things. Toys are a favourite, and I love trotting around with a ball or stuffie in my mouth. I’m also learning to trust my foster mom and sometimes let her pick me up. New experiences can feel a little scary at first, but I’m curious and I keep trying. My foster mom is proud that I use the yard for my potty breaks and a pee pad if I can’t quite hold it. Popcorn and I hope to find a family who will give us time to settle in and discover how wonderful life can be. We’ll be worth the wait! And now, a few words from my foster mom: Pennie is a sweet little girl whose personality shines when she’s outside. She runs with the biggest smile, tail wagging, then checks to see where you’re going. Head towards the house and she’ll be right behind you. After spending her first years in a puppy mill, Pennie is still learning to feel comfortable with people. She likes being near us in the house, even though being picked up can make her unsure. There is one adorable exception: when she wants to join the other dogs on the couch, she lets me give her a lift! She gets along well with other dogs and would welcome more furry friends. Pennie needs a securely fenced yard where she can enjoy her favourite pastime: running freely. She’s still learning to walk on a leash and will do best with a patient family who lets her build confidence at her own pace. Having Popcorn by her side helps her feel secure. We gave the sisters time apart and saw how much better they do together, so their forever home must be one they share. I love racing around with my sister Pennie and our foster brother, especially when one of us grabs a toy. I’m fast, and I love meeting other dogs who come to visit. When I’ve had my fill of running, you’ll find me in my second favourite spot: the end of the couch. I spent my first years in a puppy mill, so I’m still getting used to people and all the new things in my world. My foster mom says I’m smart and notices every little step I take, like following her up the stairs when it’s time to go inside. If I feel unsure, I can take a break in my crate or behind the table. As I settle in, I’m doing that less often. I use the yard for potty breaks and a pee pad if I can’t quite hold it. Pennie and I are looking for a family who will give us time to feel at home. We have so much joy to share! And now, a few words from my foster mom: Popcorn is a bright, observant girl who likes to take everything in. She adores Pennie and loves sitting close to her. She also likes being near her people, although she’s still learning to trust touch, and feels most comfortable when she can choose how close to come. Being picked up is something she’s still getting used to. Outdoors, Popcorn’s playful side shines. She runs, explores and follows every interesting smell. If you’re relaxing on the deck, she’s happy to lie nearby in the sunshine. Inside, she enjoys a nap on the end of the couch and the challenge of getting a treat out of her Kong. An unexpected noise may startle her and prompt a bark, but she is growing more comfortable as she settles into foster care. Popcorn needs a securely fenced yard and a patient family who will let her build confidence at her own pace. She is still learning to walk on a leash. She enjoys the company of other dogs and would welcome more furry friends, with Pennie beside her. Joey is a sweet, one-year-old Bichon/Schnauzer mix who has stolen the hearts of his foster family. He is an affectionate little guy who loves nothing more than curling up in your lap and being close to his people. Joey is still working on confidence and socialization, and new environments can feel overwhelming. Joey will need an experienced and patient home that understands that confidence takes time to build. He is cautious when meeting new people and expresses that through barking. Joey quickly begins to show his loving personality after proper introductions. He tends to be more cautious around men, but he has made great progress with his foster dad and is learning that new people can be trusted. Joey has had limited exposure to children. When he has encountered children, he has been unsure and has responded by barking just like he does to everyone else. Joey would do well in a home with older (12+) dog savvy children that can calmly introduce themselves. Once Joey is comfortable, he is a lovely little companion. He is housetrained, LOVES car rides, enjoys relaxing in the house and backyard, and has learned to settle nicely in his crate overnight. He gets along with the three resident cats and enjoys watching the world from the yard, including the occasional squirrel or rabbit chase. Although Joey previously lived successfully with another male dog, he has shown reactivity towards other dogs while in his foster home, particularly on walks and in social situations. Joey requires a patient home that is committed to investing time in professional training and positive socialization to help him build confidence and learn appropriate behaviours around other dogs and people. Joey is carrying a little extra weight, and his foster family is helping him work toward a healthier weight through appropriate food and exercise. Joey currently weighs 9.9kg but his ideal weight would be 7.5kg. His forever family should continue this routine so he can feel his best and enjoy an active, healthy life. Joey would do best with an understanding adopter who is willing to let him build trust at his own pace, rather than expecting him to be an instant social butterfly. For the right person, watching Joey go from uncertain to trusting will be incredibly rewarding, and underneath his cautious exterior is a little dog who simply wants to feel loved, and understood. Joey loves to be around his people and prefers a family that is home often. He is crate trained, but often struggles to settle in his crate while his people are away. He is currently working on this in his foster home and will need an adopter that is willing to invest time into helping Joey overcome his separation anxiety while home alone. Joey is not suitable for apartment living due to barking. Joey is an active little guy who will love spending time with his new family. Loyal, sweet, and affectionate, Joey has all the makings of a wonderful best friend. Like all of us, he has a few things to work on, but we know this little guy just needs someone who believes in him and is willing to invest the time, patience, and resources needed to help him grow. With the right person by his side, we're confident Joey will continue to blossom into the wonderful companion he's meant to be. He came from an unlicensed, illegal breeding mill hidden away in the countryside. There, lives were reduced to nothing more than cold numbers and breeding tools. No one cared about their well-being, and they had never once seen the world outside. When the rescue team broke through the doors, the scene was heartbreaking. Narrow cages were stacked on top of each other, and Bagel was curled up in the darkest corner. Long-term malnutrition had left him emaciated, and his eyes were filled with wariness and absolute terror toward humans. Whenever anyone drew near, he would tremble violently, as if begging for no more harm to come his way.That was the longest day of his life, but it was also the day his fate turned around. The moment we lifted Bagel into our arms, we whispered gently in his ear, "Don't be afraid anymore. You are free." When Bagel first arrived at his foster home, it took him a very long time to learn how to "just be a normal dog." Even when presented with a bowl full of clean kibble, he would test it with extreme caution, unable to believe he would never have to go hungry again. But the power of love is miraculous. He went from cowering and hiding at the beginning, to quietly wagging his tail. His eyes, once clouded with fear, now light up with excitement as he trots over to snuggle whenever he sees a familiar face. Those eyes that had once lost their luster have finally brightened up again, just like a freshly baked, warm, and sweet bagel. With incredible courage, Bagel has proven that even after experiencing the deepest darkness, life can still blossom as long as there is love. Now, he is ready to leave his past in the shadows.
