Story
History and A Note from the Foster: Hi, I’m Teddie! I’m almost 12 years young and on the lookout for a very special adopter—someone who will love me exactly as I am. For the first eight years of my life, I was used only for breeding, and I wasn’t in great shape. But then my foster mom and an amazing rescue stepped in, cleaned me up, and gave me all the care I needed. Four years ago, my last rotten teeth were removed—but don’t worry, I eat everything just fine! Kibble, canned food, crunchy treats… if it’s food, I’m in. Since I have no teeth, my tongue likes to hang out, which everyone says is pretty adorable. When I was first rescued, I was terrified of everything. I’ve come a long way, but I still startle easily—especially since I can’t hear. I’d be happiest in a calm, quiet home where life moves at an easy pace. I’m learning that pets and snuggles are wonderful, but I’m more of a “sit nearby” kind of girl during the day (though at night, I love to snuggle in bed—our little secret!). I’m even starting to warm up to visitors and will sometimes ask for attention, as long as they’re gentle and patient. I’m also making great progress with potty training. I do have a routine—meals first, then #2—so someone who understands my schedule will help me succeed. If you’re kind, patient, and have a big heart for a little dog with a lot of love to give, I just might be your girl. I’m ready to spend my golden years with someone who will cherish me forever. ❤️

Story
History: Phil is a handsome little fella who arrived to rescue recently and immediately warmed our hearts. He is officially ready to start his journey in finding his forever home and hopes to find them soon! A Note from the Foster: Hello! I would love to introduce you to Phil. Phil is a five month old Havanese. He came from a life of no human contact so he is learning each and every single day just how wonderful life can be while not in a kennel all day. Because of his background he does not want to be touched, and snuggled just yet, but I know it won't be long because of his big personality. Phil is so observant and just a little shadow. He always wants to know what is going on and see what is happening. He lays at my feet when I work or sit, and follows me wherever I go....unless he trying to get into mischief. He loves to play with the other foster puppy in the house, and also loves the big resident lab. The cats are no problem for him either, he is interested in them, but never pursues or chases them. Toys are his all time favorite. He is rarely ever without one with him. He makes sure that they never have to stay in the kennel without him, he takes them all out each time. He isn't a big fan of his kennel, he doesn't bark, but likes to dig and mess up his blankets, but no accidents in there. He sleeps all night without a break and knows in the morning to go out for his business. He is very soulful. His eyes are so gentle and inquisitive, his nose adorable and even though he probably needs a haircut soon, you can still see how very handsome he is. He is happy, healthy, cute as ever and would love to have a home where he can finally trust and love forever.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Jelly Belly is the kind of sweet, soft-hearted gentleman who looks like he should star in a tiny dog detective show, quietly observing the world and solving mysteries with nothing but his soulful eyes and perfect manners. He starts out shy, as if he’s politely checking your credentials before allowing you into his inner circle, but once you earn that trust, he reveals the warm, gentle core hidden underneath his fluffy medium coat. He learns new habits faster than you’d expect from such a humble little scholar; it took him only three tries to master sitting and staying for snacks, which he now performs with the quiet pride of a dog who knows he has done a very good job. Jelly Belly rarely barks, unless you are a duck at the pond in which case he will have exactly one thing to say. Inside the home he’s the definition of peaceful, drifting from room to room with the slow confidence of someone who knows he won’t be causing any trouble unless you tempt him with a sock or a stray paperback left on the floor. This charming little explorer lives for his outdoor adventures. Walking and sniffing are his passion, his hobby, and probably his résumé title. He trots along beautifully on leash and prefers elevators to stairs because Jelly Belly is a modern gentleman who appreciates convenience. Indoors, he’s calm and independent, not much of a cuddler, but always polite and always nearby. He sleeps through the night, stays well-behaved when left alone in the condo, and has heroically conquered his old fear of door thresholds. He’s cautious with new people but friendly with dogs and kind with kids, warming up slowly but sincerely. Jelly Belly is a gentle, quirky soul who comes alive the moment he steps outside, ready for the next great sniffing expedition. For someone who appreciates a quiet companion with impeccable manners and an adventurous heart, Jelly Belly is the perfect little gentleman to stroll through life beside. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. He is neutered, fully vaccinated and has good teeth. He is very shy when you first meet him and will take time to warm up but when he does look out. Irving will need a fenced in yard as he may run and is very shy. He loves to play with toys, people and other dogs. He uses a puppy door to go outside to potty and loves the outside sometimes he doesn't like to come back in unless you go out and get him. Irving is smart, funny and has a foot fetish. He will catch them when you put them up on something and then lets them go. Also, likes to nibble at your ears, neck or your hair but will not bite or hurt you. Irving would be good with shared walls as he rarely barks. He likes to sleep in bed with me and his doggie friends and likes to nap in a puppy bed. Adoption fee: $695

Story
History and A Note from the Foster: Meet Shay, the most petite and charming Bichon you'll ever meet. She had a traumatic past and is working really hard to overcome that! When she first came into our home she would hide behind furniture and shake. We saw no signs of happiness and no signs of confidence. Shay has begun to blossom but will take a patient home to continue this progress. She is proving us wrong constantly and really is a happy gal! Shay has so many terrific qualities - crate trained and doesn't make a peep overnight, potty trained with consistent breaks, playful and goofy with other dogs and never aggressive with humans or other dogs. She is even starting to yip and play bow at me in the yard! I also get the most aggressive tail wag from her when I come home from work or let her out in the morning! She has not been around kids yet. While I know she would be gentle with them, they might scare her a bit if they chase her. Shay had a neglectful past which makes her fearful of humans. Her grooming and dental was also neglected for years. She did have 15 teeth pulled, but now she has the cutest snaggle tooth that her top lip is constantly getting caught on. It's one of my favorite things about her! Due to this she would love to eat wet food, or if that's not feasible you can soak her food in milk or water. She does take anxiety meds with her meals which will need to be continued as well. Her rust-colored fur around her paws and mouth is from nervous licking, however her nervous licking has really dwindled down! There are many "remedies" out there for rust colored fur. It's nothing bad, it just has to do with what's in her saliva. Some allergy testing might help as well! The perfect home for Shay MUST have: -No expectations for her. She may come out of her shell after 1 week or 1 year. It's impossible to know when (or if) she will become a "normal" dog. She may always be shy and progress isn't always linear. It has really been a blessing seeing her gain confidence and show joy. It's important to celebrate small successes! A home with experience with shy or shut down dogs is a huge bonus. She does not seek affection or touch from humans yet, however she has started to approach if I have a treat and beg for human food alongside the other dogs :) -Another dog (or two) around her size. She will look to your dog to not only be her safety blanket but also her teacher. Shay has 3 foster siblings. One is her size and shares her quiet temperament so they get along wonderfully and love to cuddle. The others are also the same size but a bit more aggressive with their play style and not quite the right fit for Shay long-term. Shay is always trying to play with her foster siblings! She play bows and spins in circles yipping in attempt to play. -A fenced in yard. Shay is still fearful of the leash and a walk is still too overstimulating. She loves to run around a fenced in yard as her primary source of exercise and is doing so fantastic with potty training! She has not had an accident inside in months. If you are looking for a quiet companion that needs some more patience and TLC then Shay is your girl. She really deserves the world and all we want to see is her be happy!

Story
History: Ailani is a beautiful girl who needed a second chance at a good life. She quickly wriggled her way into our hearts with how sweet and loving she is and she would make a great addition to a lucky home of her own soon! A Note from the Foster: Ailani is adjusting to her new life very quickly! She is starting to show a lot of personality and energy. She loves being where the people are and where the action is and she gets very excited to see you. She gets along with our other dogs and often initiates play. She has a lot of love to give and loves belly rubs. She does calm down quickly when appropriate, and settles in nicely in the evening when we're watching TV or reading. She is doing pretty well with potty training, however, she doesn't show a lot of signs of when she has to go, but when let out regularly, she does great. We have learned she is not a big fan of her kennel. So we have set up a bed next to ours and she does great there at night - she stays put and sleeps the whole night through. However, during the day, when nobody is home, we do put her in the kennel and give her treats and toys and she seems to do ok. She is very happy to see you when you get home! Besides her current bad haircut, Ailani is overall a great dog and companion. She will bring joy to most households.

Story
History: Zipper is a super sweet boy who arrived to rescue in desperate need of a second chance. He is such a handsome and striking boy who is ready to meet his forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: Zipper is a Bichon breeder release. When I first picked him up, he was very fearful of the world. Each day though, he comes a little bit more out of his shell. In just a week, he has become comfortable in my house, and I can see the typical Bichon-like, happy personality coming through. He is happy whenever he can be with his people (or other dogs) in a safe space. His laid-back personality makes him easy to take care of, and he seems grateful to be in a home environment. He likes playing with my dogs, and is also happy to sleep on the couch. He doesn’t bark much and doesn’t like his crate. He sleeps at night in a dog bed in his own room without any problems. We are working on potty training. He wears a belly band, as he does have problems with marking. He is comfortable going out to go potty in the yard, and hasn't been interested in any walks so far.
