Meet Iris!! This beauty, Iris-A237795, an all white husky adolescent is available for adoption. You can see from her photos in her diary, she’s got personality and will bring endless smiles, boundless adventure, loyalty and love. Iris is 11 months old and will benefit from training, continued socialization, regular exercise and mental stimulation (including training, puzzles and games). Iris does enjoy jogging and it has been noted by volunteers she is easy to jog with and accommodates the human’s pace. Iris also loves to fetch, but giving it back is not always on her agenda.. so you need to get it back to keep the game going, a modified game of fetch and keep away. lol. Iris has everything it takes to make a great companion. Do you have everything Iris needs to be a great adopter? Please know the breed, provide for their needs. Hi - I'm Luna - I like long walks on the beach and love car rides. I enjoy being chased on the beach (but I'm super fast - no one can catch me:)). I turned 1 year old in July. I am very well behaved - especially if there is a treat involved. My current owners rescued me from Hitchcock in December, 2024. Now I'm looking for my Fur-Ever home.

Story
HI - I'M MISTO! I am a young (about a year old) husky-shepherd mix rescued from a crowded California shelter not too long ago. I was terrified there -- I mean really scared. I wouldn't even come up to greet people. But after a few days out of there, my sunshine personality came out! I'm a loving, dog-friendly boy who would do well with another dog in the home, or as an only dog, too. I love to play and am happy! Change is a bit scary for me so I would do well with both a patient and active person, who could take me for walks, hikes and other outings. I have the most beautiful blue eyes, and I weigh about 50 lbs. Please email for an application! I currently need a foster or forever home.

Story
Meet Lewis, the husky Samoyed mix! Lewis came to the Shelter with his partner in crime Lavendar (who is also up for adoption). They were found by a good Samaritan in the roadway in the Santa Cruz Mountains. After their stray hold was complete and no individual came forward to reclaim them, they were evaluated for adoption. Although they came in together, Lavendar and Lewis are not required to be adopted together. But if someone is looking for a duo, they could be considered to go to a home together. Here`s what we have learned about Lewis – he is a social guy can be a little nervous at first but warms up. Lewis has been interested in interacting with primarily female dogs since his arrival at the Shelter, which may be hormonal at this time. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have any history of Lewis with children or cats. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
MEET TENOR & BASS! This happy and loving duo has waited much too long for a home. They are a loving, fun pair of playful dogs who need a foster or forever home! They are very affectionate toward people, and love, love, love each other. They are likely brothers, who found themselves at a crowded California shelter with no adoption interest. Fortunately they were rescued but still haven't found a home yet. They must be adopted together as they are extremely bonded. Both are almost 7 years old. Bass, the brown-and-white pup, weighs only 55 lbs., and Tenor (tan and white) weighs about 60 lbs. They are fun, active pups who love to run, play and snuggle. They would love to be adopted by someone who could take them on hikes, walks and other outings. They currently play with each other for entertainment but it'd be great for them to branch out and see the world. Bass & Tenor love to jump up and give kisses. They are not super friendly with other dogs, so should be the only dogs in the home - but they have plenty of love to give and will be grateful to whomever adopts them. If you can foster or adopt Bass & Tenor, please email for an application.
