Story
Sally is a beautiful, playful three year old Alaskan Klee Kai. She weighs about 40 pounds. Sally absolutely loves to go outside and spend time with her dog friends. She loves splashing around in the kiddie pool in the summer to cool off. Her human friends are working hard to help her be more comfortable around them, too. While she is still not comfortable being touched, she is playful around familiar humans and will get zoomies! She relies on other dogs for the confidence she has developed and therefore must have a more confident dog in her forever home. She can be a little picky with her dog friends, so her potential adopters will need to bring their dog(s) to her meet and greet to ensure it is a good fit. Sally tends to prefer large, male dogs that don't mind when she gets vocal or asks for her space. She needs quiet, consistency, and predictability in her future home. As such, she will need to go to a home with no young children. Sally is almost fully leash trained but still requires a 5 foot high fenced yard, as she is a flight risk. Once she is more comfortable with her people, a harness and leash can be used to walk her outside of her yard.Sally is learning humans bring good things and deserves a wonderful family who will go slowly and let her set the pace. If you are a calm person or family and want to be a hero for a sweet girl who needs a hero, please apply to meet Sally at NMDR.org.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
#### Sky, a delicate 2-year-old Alaskan Husky weighing 32lbs, navigates the world with a tender heart and a yearning for connection. Her anxious nature reveals her sensitivity, emphasizing the importance of a nurturing and understanding environment.Sky loves to go outside with her dog friends and enjoys running and playing with them. She enjoys cooling off in the kiddie pool in the summer time. She is highly food motivated, so treats will be instrumental in building trust with her. Toys also seem to be a way to her heart - she loves to frolic around with a stuffed toy in her mouth! Sky is an active dog, so physical and mental exercise are vital to relieving her anxiety while she learns how to navigate this big, strange world! In her search for a forever home, Sky's need for another dog companion is essential. Their presence provides her with the reassurance and support she craves, helping her navigate the challenges of daily life. Sky can be a little socially awkward with new dogs, so potential adopters will need to bring their dogs to her meet and greet to ensure it is a good fit for everyone. For Sky's safety and enjoyment, a 5ft solid fence is required as she is not yet leash trained and is a flight risk. This will allow her to explore the outdoors while remaining secure. She will do best in a home with no young children, as loud noises and sudden movements can be scary to her.Sky's journey to self-assuredness may be gradual, but her potential for growth is undeniable. With the right care and companionship, she's likely to blossom and find her place in a loving family. Her friends at NMDR see her potential to become a goofy, carefree dog and hope she can find the right home to give her that opportunity. If you're prepared to provide a patient and compassionate space for a gentle and anxious soul, Sky is ready to embark on a journey of healing and companionship with you. Apply at nmdr.org and let Sky's story of transformation begin with you! --------------------------------------Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. Because some of our dogs are very under socialized, they may not be a good fit for young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Some of our more fearful dogs will do best in a home with another dog and a securely fenced yard. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. Story
#### Sara, a gentle 4-year-old Alaskan Husky weighing 31lbs, carries a heart that seeks solace and understanding. Her delicate nature and anxious disposition require a patient and loving environment.Since she's not yet experienced on a leash, a secure 5ft fence is essential for her safety, ensuring she can freely enjoy her surroundings while remaining protected. Sara approaches familiar people and takes treats, but she is still learning that being touched is safe. Her journey to self-assuredness will be enriched by the companionship of a confident dog and the patience of her new family. In the presence of a confident canine companion, Sara blossoms. Their companionship brings her comfort and helps alleviate her anxious moments, making another dog in her home necessary. A confident dog would serve as a guide for her leash training, socialization with humans, and showing her how to simply be "a dog". A home without young children is recommended, allowing Sara the tranquility she craves. Her delicate heart deserves a space where she can thrive and find comfort. If you're prepared to provide a nurturing and understanding home for a gentle and anxious soul, Sara is ready to embark on a journey of healing and companionship with you. Story
Eevee is the sweetest husky you will ever meet. She loves to lounge and cuddle. She loves to explore, so careful with the trash cans ☺️ She is gentle and loves babies, but sometimes doesn’t know her own strength. She’s very smart and loves attention. She’s a little overweight from eating all the food the baby drops on the floor. She needs a home willing to give her more time and attention that she deserves. She’s one of a kind

Story
We got Yeti as a puppy. He currently lives with a Great Pyrenees dog and Russian Blue house cat - he does great with both. We also have a bunch of kids ranging in age from very young to teenagers - he does great with the whole family. We live in the mountains in Teller County, Colorado where the summers max out at 80°. We are about to move to a state where the summer temps always hit triple digits and winter temps can hit 70°. Yeti is a full-blooded snow dog and thrives in that environment. We believe he would be happier if he staid in Colorado.

Story
Loki is an amazing dog. We got him for our daughter, and it just wasn't a good fit. Our daughter is not a active girl, nor does she spend much time outside. This is one of the issues we are having. Loki needs to go to a home where there is a lot of property for him to be able to run freely on, as he is a Husky. Preferably a home with other dogs as he loves to play and have companionship with other animal's/dogs. If the family doesn't have a large yard then they will need to be a very active family that likes to spend time in the outdoors. He is a sweet dog with lots of energy and loves to be around people. He is not aggressive but, he does get hyper if he doesn't have the proper outlet and opportunity to burn energy. He loves to sleep inside next to the ones who love him the most. Please reach out and we would love to interview you and your family just to make sure he is going to a great home.

Story
Kodak is a handsome, 5 year old Siberian Husky looking for a new home. He loves the outdoors and enjoys hikes and getting fresh air. He is kennel trained up to 8 hours. Kodak is neutered and is up to date on all his vaccines. He also gets along with both people and dogs. An ideal home for him would include another dog to play with and space to roam around. I'm looking to find him a new loving home by summer. Kodak needs an owner who has patience and can provide him structure as he can be a high maintenance dog. Unfortunately he has a bite history in specific situations so I am seeking an owner who has professional handling experience and can be under their watch without having to take him to dog boarding or groomers.

Story
Dean is a handsome pup with striking blue eyes. Dean is a shy boy. In the weeks that we have been fostering him, he has come out if his shell a little bit more each day. After a month of fostering him, he now lays on the couch next to me, licks my hands and puts his paws on my leg if I am sitting.  In order for him to feel comfortable,  he would like for you sit on the floor and let him come to you. I can see that he is getting more confident every day but it may take some time. He loves getting treats and will gladly take them from you.  He is being fostered with his brother Dax and foster dog siblings. He loves to give kisses to his foster siblings and play with them in the yard. He is also being fosterd with his 2 teen human siblings ages 11 and 14.  Dean is doing very well on potty training. He learned the dog door but is let our every two hours. He does well with this routine. Dean can either be found hanging out in a pen with a cage attached and covered, running in the yard, soaking up the sun, or sitting by his human. Dean is a great pup who needs little patience from his adopter while he gains more confidence. Every day I see him getting more comfortable.   Will you be the one to show him all the love and patience he so greatly deserves?    This pup was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2004586##

Chewie needs an understanding owner that will be patient with him. He is afraid of most strangers and loud noises such as thunder and fireworks. He doesn’t like to be touched and won’t allow us to trim his nails. Once he’s comfortable with a person, he gets very attached to them for comfort. Despite his issues, he’s an easy dog to love.
