Story
Olga is beautiful. She loves affection and she's only 36 lbs! Olga is also Heartworm positive, which is totally treatable. The cost of the treatment is 100% paid for by the rescue. Your job, as a foster to adopt (or just foster her through her treatment) is to provide a calm environment for her to thrive in. She cannot have long walks or strenuous exercise that will raise her heart rate. What she can have is lots of love, cuddles, couch time, mental enrichment, and treats! Please reach out to us if you need more information. DO NOT let this stop you from giving this beautiful girl a new life. 6 months from now it will all be forgotten.

Story
Ziggy is a 4-year-6-month old Siberian Husky weighing 70 pounds. He came to the shelter due to his owner no longer being able to care for him. If you've never had a husky please do your homework before adopting one! Ziggy can be aloof when you first meet him. Time and attention will have him in your lap. He loves squeaky toys and plays well by himself. Is unsure with playing outside, tug or fetch are unknown to him. He is excited for walks but needs leash training and overall training in basic manners. He's very stubborn, (typical husky behavior)) knows commands but does what he pleases. Does well with strangers and car rides. Treat motivated & housebroken. Very fearful of veterinarian handling-sedation recommended. His adoption fee is $150, this includes his neuter, heartworm test, vaccines current, deworming, heartworm/flea prevention and micro chipped. His dog license is also required to be purchased for Sandusky County residents at time of adoption, which is an additional $20.75. Please visit the shelter to meet him, we show dogs Monday through Friday 1pm-4:30pm and Saturday 1pm-3:30pm. Once you have visited the shelter, you are then eligible to submit an adoption application for review. Please note, we do not offer same day adoptions and there is a $10 non-refundable application fee.Come and meet your new best friend today! The Humane Society of Sandusky County is open Monday -Friday 1pm - 5pm and Saturdays from 1pm - 4pm. Also, be sure to check us out on FaceBook!

Jack is very smart and wants to please. He would do well with having a job. He loves people and just wants to be with you. He will make an excellent companion in a home with no other pets. This boy is healthy and acts like a 4 year-old: no puppy training to do and no shoes to be chewed. He loves female dogs but can show dominance with males.

Story
Is this dog good with kids? It's crucial that children are taught to respect dogs and understand a dog's body language. Is this dog house trained? Expect to house train a newly adopted dog. Some dogs will pick it up faster than others. Successful house training largely depends on patience and consistent encouragement. Most of the dogs that end up in shelters are mixed breeds that can have 2 to 10 different breeds in their DNA. The breed listed is only the best guess of the shelter volunteers. If interested in meeting any of our cats or dogs, stop in to meet them during our open hours. If you do not see this email appear upon submission, please check your "spam" folder. 3. Your application will be processed and a volunteer will call or email with any questions. NOTE: If any questions are left unanswered or incomplete, the application cannot be processed. A completely filled out application will take 1-3 days to process! 4. We will set up a time with you to meet the animal you've applied to adopt! ** We DO give preference to applicants with verifiable dog experience as a primary caretaker. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative unless otherwise indicated. All are up to date on age appropriate vaccinations and current on heartworm prevention! Additional questions... Does this dog get along with cats? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! Does this dog react well to other dogs? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. Is this dog good with children? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. How did this dog end up in a shelter? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog
