Story
Rhonda is the definition of a gentle giant. She is affectionate, intelligent, happy and incredibly loving, with a calm and adaptable personality that makes her an ideal companion dog. She thrives on human connection and loves nothing more than belly rubs, hugs, kisses and being close to her people. Working from home? Rhona will happily follow you from room to room and settle at your feet as your loyal shadow throughout the day. Even in stressful or unfamiliar situations, Rhonda looks to her humans for reassurance, and a simple hug or gentle embrace is often all it takes to help her feel calm and secure again. She shows no aggression toward people, children or other family pets, including cats, and has integrated beautifully into family life with ease and patience.Rhonda is also incredibly smart and eager to learn. She already knows “sit”, “come”, “no” and “good dog”, and is currently learning “paw” and “roll over”. We are even beginning to teach her to use communication buttons for “walkies”, and she is picking things up so quickly that her future training potential feels unlimited. Rhonda communicates beautifully with both her voice and her paws — you can genuinely feel like you are having full conversations with her because of how attentive and expressive she is. A gentle paw on your leg paired with a look might mean she is hungry, her water bowl needs topping up, she would like to go for a walk, or sometimes she simply wants a hug or belly rubs. She is wonderfully communicative and always finds a way to let you know when she wants more attention, affection or care.Rhonda would do well in many different types of homes, from an active family lifestyle to a more moderately active household. A fenced yard or large acreage would certainly make her happy, but she is equally content with regular leashed walks and daily routines. She thrives with consistency and structure, and has become both house trained and leash trained in foster care. In fact, even our 9 year old daughter confidently walks her every day. Snow is Rhonda’s happiest place, and watching her run, play and dig through snow piles during our long Kawartha Lakes winters is pure joy. Whether she is outside enjoying the fresh air or curled up beside her people indoors, Rhonda is simply happiest being part of a loving home. She is the kind of dog who wants nothing more than to love and be loved, and she has so much companionship, loyalty and happiness to offer her future family.

Story
Amarok is a gentle northern girl with a calm, loving spirit who is ready to find her forever family. Though she’s about eight years old, she still has a youthful energy for long walks and outdoor adventures - but when she’s inside, she’s the picture of relaxation and contentment.Amarok adores being with her people and would be happiest in a home where she isn’t left alone for long stretches. She coexists peacefully with other dogs in her foster home, though she doesn’t interact much with them, and would do equally well as an only dog if she had plenty of human companionship. She has a prey drive and will happily chase after squirrels, rabbits, or cats, so a cat-free home is best. On walks, she does best in a harness, though her foster sometimes uses a slip lead for extra control when wildlife appears.Amarok is perfectly house-trained, shows no destructive habits, and has no signs of separation anxiety. She isn’t interested in toys, but she absolutely loves her walks and the chance to explore. Liver treats are her favorite reward, though she’s happy to snack on carrots, blueberries, or watermelon too.She has met children and was calm and friendly, so we believe she would do well in a home with respectful kids. Visitors are always welcomed warmly - no jumping, just gentle greetings. Her ideal forever home could be with a single person, couple, or family, as long as she has time with her humans and daily exercise. A fenced yard would be wonderful, but she would also be perfectly happy with regular walks and hikes. Amarok is not high-energy but is far from a couch potato - she strikes the perfect balance.Despite her age, Amarok still has a youthful spark and so much love to give. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will enjoy life’s adventures as much as life’s quiet moments, Amarok may just be the perfect match! Please note that due to the high volume of applications our volunteers process, we will only contact those with a strong potential for a successful match. Story
Meet Quiet Violet! This girl doesn't bark, so if you need a loud guard dog, you'll have to look elsewhere. Violet actually "speaks" rather than barks, and only for mealtime. Violet is searching for her retirement home as she's around 9 years young now. She does well with short walks as she's had two TPLO surgeries, but it doesn't stop her from playing with squeaky balls in the yard! Off leash, she is Miss Congeniality with other dogs and people alike. Treats, food and squeaky toys are all Violet's favourite things! She's also very clean and house trained. Violet's dreamhome wishlist: > A rural or suburban home. Violet is good with cows and horses, but not a fan of big city life. > A home with a fully fenced yard as Violet is accustomed to having her own secure outdoor space. > Preferably a home with another balanced dog. > A mature home without young children (older teens okay). > Someone who works from home or is retired to ensure Violet gets enough "me" time. > Someone who wants a lifelong companion that will cherish Violet the way she'll cherish them!
