Story
Meet Poppy! Poppy is a 6yr old, Terrier mix, spayed female and up to date on vaccines/preventatives. She is house trained, kennel trained, and vehicle trained as well. Poppy is a medium energy dog; feisty and likes to socialize BUT she's a little crusty on the outside and super gooey on the inside. She loves her people and her friends; however, you'll need to earn her trust. Poppy can be energetic, plays casually and enjoys sustained games of chase with her friends, on her terms (fun police.) She can get cranky if play becomes too vigorous and she gets pounced on too much/hard. Poppy has a little bit of arthritis, and it can be painful, so she will gladly retreat to the door to let you know she is done with playtime. She is more than willing to go inside, follow you around or curl up, chill, and get her belly rubbed. Being small but mighty, Poppy occasionally has bouts of barking at what she sees moving in the distance and will go zooming up and down the fence line in arousal of anyone/thing approaching; however, she will calm down on her own with minimal intervention from her person. When greeting you, Poppy displays the typical wiggle body and wildly wagging tail. Have you seen how long her tail is?! It waves like a banner over her back and is simply adorable! She may initially hop up to put her feet on you, letting you know she's happy and wants to interact with you, she loves attention and will display a little eagerness to get more loves... so saying her name as she's being petted, and the name of the other dog(s) being petted keeps her content. Noteworthy Behaviors: Poppy displays barrier reactivity with new people/surroundings as a way to express her anxiety in the situation. She will need a person or family, (with older children), who will understand and take their time with her. Once you win her over, she is gold! She is quirky about having her collar touched so she will whine, cower down, and roll to her side. She will display mouthy behavior as you attempt to put a leash on her, but she genuinely wants to go out so don't give up! She will pop right up and head to the door after being leashed!! Key points to consider when adopting Poppy: she is sugar and spice with bursts of energy so great with a laid back and an active family. Honorable mention: Poppy does have a housemate, Sully, who is also up for adoption. If you're looking for two friends, then they are your duo! They would have an easier transition into a new home together but they are not bonded. $200 Local adoption fee (in Texas) $400 Out of State Fee (includes transport to your area) $50 Fuel temporary fuel surcharge

COURTESY POST * This animal is not physically in LTR care, they continue to live with the owner. * The adoption/application process is the same for these dogs as any other dog in our rescue. * LTR has not evaluated this pet. * All personality information is provided by the owner and is assumed to be honest and accurate. * The adoption fee/donation for helping rehome the pet is the same as LTR establishes fees. Fozzie is a 1-2 year old, 13lb Terrier mix. Fozzie was found as a stray. After trying to find his home there was no claims. We got him vetted and healthy. We then started looking for a new home as his foster mom has too many pups of her own and never planned for another. Fozzie is a small/ medium sized dog and loves his people. He deserves more attention, training, and love. He is an absolute love bug who loves his people. He has been around older children and does fine if they can read his body language. I haven’t had him around small children. He does well with both men and woman. The only time Fozzie gets a bit defensive is when strangers are in his home. With slow and proper introductions he does very well and we have never had any issues. Fozzie can be anxious when left outside by himself or can get overstimulated by too much happening. He loves toys (especially stuffies) and walks. He’s very active. He is a typical terrier type and will chase anything that runs. He does well with my dogs with proper introduction and doesn’t mind the cats. Fozzie needs more confidence and exposure to the scary world. He does well being groomed and bathed. He’s a cuddler and will make you laugh at any shenanigans. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $250

Story
Millie was acquired in front of petsmart on adoption day which is why there are some unknowns with her. She was diagnosed as having anxiety from vet visits. She gotten so much better over the years she has been with us. She is an incredibly loving dog that loves being shown attention, you can see it her eyes. She needs someone who will love on her, due to her anxiety it will take some time before she trusts someone but once she does she will exude love. I am a new mother and with my full time job I just don’t have the time to take with Millie like I use to. She will make someone a great companion. We are not sure exactly how old Millie is but I do believe she is near being a senior dog. I believe she would do well with adults without children as she can get a little nervous with too much going on, she also enjoys her “me” time. Give her a nice soft place to lay down and you will forget she’s in the room. She’s a wonderful dog.

Story
ADOPTION FEE SPONSORED: “Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated!” declared CAPTAIN JACK. We introduced you to CAPTAIN JACK at the end of December hoping to find him a hospice foster. SDHR pulled him from a rural shelter due to some reported serious health issues. However, in working with our vet we discovered that he doesn’t have any life-threatening health issues and he’s ready to find a furever home! Captain Jack is a Jack Russell terrier-type boy, 9-10 years old and 13 pounds. He’s spent the past month in one of our wonderful foster homes where he's proven to be an affectionate cuddle bug, good with other small dogs, cats, and children. Captain Jack has a seizure disorder which is well-regulated with an inexpensive medication. He also has a collapsed trachea, not uncommon among small dogs of a certain age. He needs to wear a harness rather than a collar. An X-ray shows that Captain Jack suffered a broken right rear leg at some point in the past which was not properly treated. It’s an old injury and there’s nothing that can be done at this point. It doesn’t cause him any pain. Captain Jack moves around just fine and enjoys being outdoors, but he’s not suited for long walks. Captain Jack just had a dental cleaning, has been fully vetted and is ready to find a home of his very own. Captain Jack is best suited to a quiet home with another friendly small dog companion. He is crate trained, knows a few basic commands and adores his people. If you’d like to meet Captain Jack, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Captain Jack at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate but must have a pre-approved application to take him home with you. All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoption fee covers the dog’s veterinary care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention and any other needed veterinary care. A deposit is required to take a dog home for a trial period. The deposit will be applied to the dog’s final adoption fee.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 21, 2024, 10:57 am
