Story
Mayes - 2 years, 69lbs, Labradoodle, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
Meet Pluto — the Perfect Gentleman with a Heart of Gold! This 7-year-old, 33-lb Labradoodle is as sweet, steady, and charming as they come. Pluto LOVES his walks (seriously, he will never say no), enjoys hanging out in the backyard, and is just as happy curling up beside you for a cozy snuggle session. He’s the ideal mix of low-key and playful — a gentle guy who still enjoys toys, treats, and the occasional zoomie. Pluto is great with dogs and has been warming up beautifully to his younger, more energetic foster sister. He prefers polite canine friends or calm companions, but he’s coexisted wonderfully so far. He’s also good with kids and adults alike! Although, he'd proably do best with older children who are respectful of his space. He’s house trained, walks well on a leash, and is wonderfully quiet indoors unless he’s politely requesting a walk. He loves being petted, enjoys squeaky toys, is treat-motivated, and doesn’t shed. He isn’t crate trained, but he sleeps through the night like a pro on his dog bed. Pluto travels well, adores affection, and is simply an easy, lovely boy. Whether as an only dog or paired with a calm buddy, he’s going to make a family very, very lucky. If you’re looking for a mature, affectionate, well-mannered companion… Pluto is your guy. Story
Meet Teddy Bear, a 10-month-old German Shepherd/Doodle mix with the personality to match his adorable name! Teddy is friendly, loving, and social with just about everyone—dogs, kids, adults, men, women, and even the elderly. He’s a happy, well-rounded pup who fits right into any household that’s ready for snuggles, playtime, and lots of love. Teddy is a big cuddle bug who absolutely melts for affection. If you’re petting him, he’s in heaven—he loves belly rubs, head scratches, and will happily curl right up next to you. He’s equally enthusiastic about toys and can keep himself entertained for hours, especially with something fun to chew. This sweet boy has excellent training under his belt thanks to a board-and-train program. He walks beautifully on leash with his prong/e-collar, knows a long list of commands (Sit, Down, Leave It, Wait/Stay, Go to Place, Go to Crate, Go Potty, Calm Down, Safety, Drop It), and picks up new skills fast. He’s crate trained, house trained, and travels well in the car. Teddy isn’t a resource guarder and doesn’t have any known sensitivities—he’s easygoing, cooperative, and great with handling. Energy-wise, Teddy is the perfect mix of playful and relaxed. He loves his walks, loves the outdoors, and enjoys playing with other dogs, but he also appreciates downtime and will happily lounge around once he’s gotten his energy out. Whether you want an adventure buddy, a cuddle companion, or both—Teddy is your guy. Teddy Bear is goofy, affectionate, loyal, and eager to please—a dream dog in every way and ready to shower his forever family with love. If you’re looking for a smart, sweet, and incredibly loving pup, Teddy Bear is waiting to meet you! If you would like to adopt this wonderful dog, please email rescue@pupstarzrescue.org or visit www.pupstarzrescue.org for an application! Story
This is Crockett, a stunning wolfhound(?)/schnauzer(?)/doodle(?)/labrador(?) mix, who was surrendered to us because city life was too exciting for him. Crockett is a big, strong boy, at almost 100lbs. He has a medium energy level and has been completely appropriate with every dog we've ever introduced him to. He is comical, eager to please, smart, affectionate.....and sometimes a bit stubborn! He is very chill and is not the kind of dog that is up in your face all the time.Crockett would do best in a suburban or rural area, with dog savvy adult owners that like to throw a ball and perhaps another dog. Due to his size, Crockett would not be a good fit for a home with children. Please note that Crockett will need regular grooming. This dog is being cared for by: National Greyhound Adoption Program 10901 Dutton Road Philadelphia, PA 19154 PA Kennel License #3069. Our adoption areas include PA, NJ, NY, CT, DE, MD, DC and NoVA.
