Story
This is Crockett, a stunning wolfhound(?)/schnauzer(?)/doodle(?)/labrador(?) mix, who was surrendered to us because city life was too exciting for him. Crockett is a big, strong boy, at almost 100lbs. He has a medium energy level and has been completely appropriate with every dog we've ever introduced him to. He is comical, eager to please, smart, affectionate.....and sometimes a bit stubborn! He is very chill and is not the kind of dog that is up in your face all the time.Crockett would do best in a suburban or rural area, with dog savvy adult owners that like to throw a ball and perhaps another dog. Due to his size, Crockett would not be a good fit for a home with children. Please note that Crockett will need regular grooming. This dog is being cared for by: National Greyhound Adoption Program 10901 Dutton Road Philadelphia, PA 19154 PA Kennel License #3069. Our adoption areas include PA, NJ, NY, CT, DE, MD, DC and NoVA.

Story
Matthew - 1 year, 49lbs, Sheepadoodle, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required: INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Thier Foster Parent Said: "Matthew is a total "people person" who decides you are his best friend the second he meets you. He’s the ultimate companion and loves to be in whatever room you’re in and snuggles up next to you, but what’s really impressive is how well he’s handled the chaos of New York. He’s completely unfazed by city noise—sirens, crowds, and hallway sounds don't bother him one bit, and he’s a surprisingly quiet guy who rarely barks. Even when you head out, he’s great on his own; he might whimper at the door for a minute or two, but he settles down quickly. On walks, Matthew is a social butterfly who is incredibly gentle with every dog he meets, though he does still have plenty of puppy energy. He’ll be a wonderful project for someone with a bit of patience who is willing to put in the time for leash training, as he still pulls and gets very focused on birds and other small animals. He’s at his best with a long walk in the morning and midday to burn off some of that steam. When he’s not out exploring, he’s usually busy "destructing" a toy (don't worry, he just likes the ripping part, he doesn't actually eat the stuffing!). Because he’s still learning his manners, he can be a bit mouthy or rough when he wants attention, but he’s super smart and we think he’ll be a fast learner with the right boundaries. He’s also had a couple of accidents, so he needs a routine where he’s taken out shortly after meals and given a little extra time to linger in his favorite spots until he goes. He’s truly just a big, sweet baby and anyone who adopts him will be so lucky!" TOLERANCE TO CITYCity pup – Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, may as well have been born here. He’s not bothered by noises and has started being less interested in people walking by but still tries to pull towards dogs and sees a LOT of them on any walk we go on since we’re in the village. He also gets super excited by pigeons. POTTY TRAININGYes – Few or no accidents; has had a handful of accidents COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSSocial butterfly – Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Not a match for a home with little kids – This pup is either mouthy and rambunctious and needs grownups willing to do training or too easily stressed by/sensitive to kid energy and requires a low key, quiet homeMatthew is VERY mouthy when he plays and often stretches the limits of what is acceptable play in terms of nipping. He also uses his paws very forcefully and seems to not know how big of a boy he is. SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSYes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines He’s obsessed with other dogs and wants to pull to them/play with them. He never barks at them but sometimes charges at them or swats at them playfully. I’m honestly not sure if that’s good behavior or expected of his age. RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.Not sure – Wants to chase squirrels and birds so may not be a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc.  MOUTHY BEHAVIORNeeds training – Is either still in the puppy stage or was never trained. Tries to put their mouth on your hands when playing or needs attention, grabs leash, chews on your personal belongings  SEPARATION ANXIETYDoing Great – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise.  LEASH MANNERSGetting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction.  CUDDLE BUG LEVELMedium – Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed  JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLOListens to correction – Only jumps on people they know when really excited, stops with correction. CRATE TRAININGNot at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses. This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2663796##
