Story
I am a sweet and gorgeous girl with a friendly demeanor. Sadly, I ended up in the shelter after being found as a stray, but I have to say I walk nicely on a leash, take treats gently, play nicely with other dogs, and already know basic commands like “sit” and “paw”. I am easygoing, affectionate, and always happy to spend time with my favorite humans. I also love playing in water! Beach or pool day? Count me in! If you`re looking for a fun and loyal companion who can offer the perfect balance of playfulness and affection, I might be the perfect match! Weighs around 65 lbs. Good with other dogs.

Story
From one of our volunteer dog walkers: ` Meet Albert — The Gentle Young Soul With a Story in His Scars ????Albert is a 7-month-old lab mix who carries himself a little cautiously — and if you notice the small healing scars on his body, you can’t help but wonder what chapters he’s already lived through. But here’s what stands out more than anything: he is sweet. On leash, Albert walked nicely. A bit unsure, yes — like he’s still learning that the world can be kind — but he stayed close, polite, and attentive. When offered pets, he accepted them softly. When offered treats, he took them like he’s already practicing for the role of “Distinguished Gentleman.”He’s young, still growing, and very much a blank page waiting for someone to help him write a better next chapter.Albert would likely benefit from confidence-building and gentle guidance. Living with an older, mature, well-socialized dog could be a huge gift for him — a calm teacher to show him how safe and normal life can be.He’s not loud. He’s not wild. He’s thoughtful. Tender. The kind of dog who seems like he wants to do everything right — he just needs someone patient enough to help him believe he can.Albert is waiting at Flagler Humane Society. If you have a soft heart, steady leadership, and maybe a confident canine role model at home, Albert could grow into something truly beautiful. ???`

Story
From one of our volunteer dog walkers: `Meet Suzie — A Soft Start, A Big Future (and the Cutest Little Teeth)Suzie is a 2-year-old lab/pit mix who may not show you her whole personality in the first five minutes — but give her a little time, and you’ll start to see how special she really is.When I approached her kennel, she got up calmly but with a gentle spark of excitement. Not chaotic. Not shut down. Just a soft, hopeful “Hi… is it my turn?”On leash, she walked the way she looks — easy, gentle, thoughtful. She’s still young and likely just needs a little time and confidence to fully open up. She feels like a dog who’s holding something wonderful just beneath the surface, waiting for the right home to let it bloom. And when she does soften? She’s affectionate. The kind of dog who leans in quietly for pets instead of demanding them. Sweet in a way that feels genuine. Also — we need to talk about her adorable little front bottom teeth. When she looks up at you just right, they peek out in the cutest way. It’s impossible not to smile back.On the way back to her kennel, she ignored the louder dogs and walked calmly inside, patiently waiting to be unleashed. That quiet composure in a shelter environment says a lot about her character.Suzie isn’t flashy. She’s not loud. She’s a young girl with a gentle heart, a sweet smile, and so much potential to become someone’s truly amazing dog. She’s waiting at Flagler Humane Society — ready to find the person who sees what she’s becoming. Some dogs shout for attention.Suzie quietly steals it.`Weighs around 45lbs

Story
Weighs around 50 lbsFrom dog walking volunteer: `Meet Winnie — Gentle, Brave, and Worth the Wait Winnie is an approximately 2-year-old lab mix who recently arrived at the shelter, and she’s handling it with quiet grace. When I first walked by her kennel, she was calmly lying down—no chaos, no “pick me!” performance. When I asked if she wanted to go out and showed her the leash, she slowly got up and came to the gate like, “Okay… I trust you.” That kind of soft willingness says a lot.As soon as we started walking, I noticed she was skipping a few steps with her back leg. The medical team is already on it and sending her to a specialist to come up with the best plan to help her feel better. She’s being cared for—and that matters.Even though she’s not feeling 100%, Winnie walked nicely on leash (which might partly be because she’s taking it easy right now). But don’t let that calm pace fool you—when she saw other dogs, she perked right up and enthusiastically pulled toward them. Clearly, the social spark is still there. She seemed a little camera shy—more “I’m not ready for my close-up yet” than anything else. That might just be her needing a little time to warm up and feel safe. Some dogs bloom slowly, and that doesn’t make them any less wonderful.Winnie is gentle, observant, and quietly hopeful. She may need a bit of medical follow-up and a little patience while she settles in—but she also looks like the kind of dog who will deeply bond once she knows she’s home.Winnie is available for adoption at Flagler Humane Society. If you’re looking for a sweet companion who just needs a soft place to land and a little time to open up, Winnie might be your girl.`Please, contact us if you have any questions.
