Story
When Linus isn’t smothering all the staff at Dogtown (where he is currently boarding) with love, you can find him chillin with his favorite ball in his mouth - totally content to just hang onto it in between play sessions! For those of you that don’t know, Linus made his way to the shelter after being found as a stray and unlike most strays, he was microchipped and registered to an owner! His story should have ended in a loving reunion but instead he found nothing but abandonment. We called, texted, AND emailed his previous owner and not once did we hear back from them But it’s truly their loss because this boy has changed our lives irrevocably for the better and we just know he’ll forever change his new family’s life too! He was extremely overstimulated and high strung when he started his Swamp Haven journey, it was obvious to us that he was beyond confused as his whole life has been turned upside down. His first bath was an incredibly anxious one, so much so that the only thing we could think of to help was to give him a toy which he then proceeded to hold for the duration of his bath. It was clear that he needed a security blanket of sorts to provide him comfort, and so he became Linus! He’s waited over a year to find his forever people, but he won’t give up and neither will we! So he will continue to wait as long as he has his favorite ball to keep him company. Linus is looking to be your only dog. He is house and crate trained, though he can be left out unattended without being destructive. He LOVES kids and is a true people pleaser. If you can’t adopt, reach out about fostering! This gorgeous velvet hippo would love to finally get out of boarding and play with his ball in a backyard! April 28, 2024, 6:58 am

Story
When we found Sookie, she was tucked away in the corner of an overcrowded animal shelter. We weren’t even supposed to be in the area we spotted her in, but made eye contact with her soulful eyes and just had to take a peek. She was skin and bones. She was infested with numerous skin infections that left her body covered in more scabs than fur. She was riddled with heartworms and untreated kidney disease. She would have likely been one of the first dogs to be euthanized because she was a senior in despicable shape. Sookie was an owner surrender. She wasn’t a stray that was searching for food and shelter on the streets, but someone’s dog that went uncared for and neglected for far too long until she was finally tossed away like garbage. We don’t know much about her life before coming to Swamp Haven but we do know she has no reason to be the perfect angel that she is. In boarding, Sookie let us know that she didn’t want anything to do with other dogs and we didn’t blame her given everything she’s been through. Turns out she just needed to be in a comfortable, calm environment in order to let her guard down and start to truly heal emotionally. She went from being recommended as an only pet to a gal that seems to enjoy the company of feline friends and dogs that match her temperament level! We have learned so much about Sookie since she went to a temporary foster home but most of all we learned that more than anything, she simply longs for a home. A REAL home that will treat her like the queen she is, like she’s always deserved to be treated. Sookie is in need of a longterm foster, or better yet, adopter. Her time in this temporary foster home will soon come to an end and the thought of her going back to boarding where her guard is constantly up breaks our hearts. Sookie is about 12-13 years young, she is perfectly frosted, she cares about snuggles, snacks, and sunbathing exclusively, and is dreaming of a forever home to spend the rest of her golden years in. Story
Apollo will be 3 years old on June 23rd. He's been well taken care of by a large family with lots of kids. He is a very friendly black lab (we were told that he is a beagle mix, but he looks like a black lab). He is very playful. I have developed severe allergies, and I can no longer care for him. We're hoping that he can go to a good home. He's up to date on all of his shots and he has been neutered.

Story
Buster is the most resilient, determined, and loving pup you will ever meet. He loves being with his people, getting head scratches, and exploring the yard. Sadly, his life wasn't always so great; while living as a stray in the Bahamas, Buster was hit by a car and suffered a spinal injury that left him paralyzed. After a month of dragging his hind legs through the streets, alone and trying to survive, some wonderful people found him and got him the help he so desperately needed. After he was stabilized, they flew him to the states so he could be seen by veterinary specialists and find his furever home! Buster may not have use of his back legs anymore, but that doesn't slow him down. When you put him in his wheel chair, he is unstoppable (just watch your toes, as REALLY, nothing stops him)! As a paralyzed pup, he needs a little extra help, but within minutes of meeting him you'll see that he is absolutely worth it. If you're looking for a best friend that will love you unconditionally for years to come, look no further than Busterino. f you are interested in learning more about this dog, please complete an application by visiting http://www.floridaurgentrescue.com/adopt.
