Story
Hi, my name is Sadie and I'm almost 10 years old.  I was originally adopted from Bond County Humane Society (BCHS) when I was about 5 months old.  I lived with my adopters and 2 other dogs until I was surrendered back to BCHS in Sept 2025.  The family has split up and they could not keep me or the other dogs because their living situation changed.  I was living in a foster home until a week ago.  My foster mom had a health emergency and can no longer foster me.  When I was living with my foster mom it was just me and her in the home.  I was ok with the peace and quiet of my foster home, but I enjoyed having visitors too.  I would go from person to person for pets and attention.  My foster mom says I am super sweet and smart.  I am an alarm barker so when I hear someone or something I let you know and my bark is intimidating.  Little does a stranger know that I am totally harmless.  I desperately needed a dental when I arrived and that has been completed.  I had to have 13 teeth removed.  A bloodwork panel was done on me and everything is in normal range. I am available for immediate adoption.  I am spayed, UTD on vaccinations, heartworm tested, treated for internal and external parasites and micro chipped.  My adoption fee is by donation.  If you are interested in making me a member of your family please complete an Adoption Profile in person or on-line at www.bondcohumane.org.  Email the completed profile to the address provided.  A copy of our policy regarding warranties, refunds and returns is available upon request.January 30, 2026, 6:43 pm

Story
Peps is a very nice, active and sweet silver purebred lab. I know this breed well. She is apparently well trained and responds to common verbal commands. She is active and energetic, better suited as a field dog. I have a service animal for a disability. I thought she would fit in and help my own dog with his separation anxiety, but he has become protective of me. It is clear he won't stop that innate behavior. It is also clear she won't stop pushing for dominance. This is a matter of priorities. I like Peps. I need my service dog for my health. Peps is outstanding! I wouldn't have taken her in if I didn't see that. I didn't anticipate my dog's protective dynamic, but I do respect his behavior. She would be better placed in a sporting home so she can flush and retrieve game. Her apparent instinct for that is outstanding. She comes with vet records and crate (which she loves). I have not seen it, but I understand she is good with kids, but impatient with being handled inappropriately.

You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive for a meet & greet. If you follow our socials, you may remember Esmeree's intake story: Esmeree was found in an abandoned house with several newly born puppies by an individual. Unfortunately, all her puppies were deceased. She was doing everything she could to take care of herself let alone care for her puppies. She was posted on several social media pages for several days and no rescues offered to help her. After seeing these posts day after day, we knew she could not be left to suffer any longer. So we sprang into action and made plan even though we don't take normally take medium size dogs. When she arrived in foster care we started accessing her injuries. She was scared, bleeding on her ears and face, and holding up her back leg. Was she bitten? Did she get caught in barbwire fencing? Did she get into a fight? And she was skin & bones. We did the best we could at the time to treat her wounds, but Monday came and we dropped her off at the vet office first thing. She weighed just 36 pounds. They took blood and ran it for everything. Thankfully it came back unremarkable and heartworm negative. They took urine and it was normal. They ran a fecal test and she was positive for whipworms which is easily treatable. They took x-rays from head to tail & everything became heartbreakingly clear. Esmeree left hind leg (femur) is severely fractured due to being shot. She had shrapnel present in her leg. We had no idea as the outside wounds had already healed but the bones were not healing on the inside. After several discussions with multiple vets and orthopedist, amputation was the best treatment in this case. Now we know what her medical condition is, we need to get her good nutrients and weight healthy so she can be spayed and have her leg amputated. In about 3 weeks, she had gained 10 pounds so she was ready for her surgery. Her leg was removed and she went through several weeks of physical therapy and has recovered wonderfully. She is not hindered by only three legs. Since coming into our care, Esmeree has received all the medical care she needed and we have learned all the things that scare her from being abandoned. She knows she will be fed good food, clean drinking water and a fluffy bed to sleep on. We have learned she is scared of thunder or loud boom noises and ATV's. Esmeree is a very loving girl and just wants someone to love her back. She does walk on a leash and harness but she also loves to be outside on nice days. So she will need a fenced yard so she can enjoy her outside time safely. Esmeree does get along with other dogs but we do not recommend her with small dogs because she really has not learned how to play with them safely. Bringing home a new dog is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt Esmeree. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.

Story
Milo is almost 6-years-old and is seeking a new home where he can chill, run around in the backyard, go on walks, and hang with the big kids. He's a good ole boy who just gets a bit uncomfortable around the littles, including the hyper, young puppies too. Good with strangers and even gives kisses and paws :) Prefers the company of older doggie friends. Has not been around cats. Walks well on a leash, housebroken, crate-trained. Knows basic commands, including "go to bed" which tells him to go lay down in his crate. Fixed and up-to-date on shots too. Fee $100. Free training is included with your adoption.

Story
We adopted Onyx when she was 3 months old from. Petsmart event. She is a great dog but recently has been exhibiting undesirable behavior with our cats. The cat is fine, but it rose alarms with me. This perhaps could have been a one off, but we do not have the time to retrain her due to our schedules. Onyx is now 9 years old.
