Like all young puppies, Lady Mufasa is a blank slate and will need an adopter committed to helping her learn the ropes of being a great companion. Meet Fuzzball! Fuzzball is a beautiful black lab mix with a gorgeous coat, soulful eyes, and an incredibly shy personality. Fuzzball is very nervous in this noisy environment, but if someone is able to give her space as she decompresses and allow her to set the pace and learn she is safe, she will be able to build trust and blossom in a new home, and will bond closely with her person. Fuzzball has been shut down and did not show great interest in other dogs initially, but she is curious when other dogs are nearby so she may be interested in spending time with a mellow, well-socialized dog who is able to give space when requested. If you have a dog you believe would be a good fit please bring the dog for a meet. She may be content as an only dog, but she cannot live with a cat or small animals. Because Fuzzball is shy and wary of hand movement, she will need an owner who is patient and experienced with positive reinforcement, or willingness to learn, so she can create happy associations to her new home and to the scary world. Once she begins decompressing in a home she will be able to learn that toys are fun, and her playful side will have an opportunity to come alive as trust builds. Because she is shy and finding her way, she is not a good candidate for living with children (adult only home), and would not thrive in a chaotic environment. Despite being nervous, she gravitates to trusted people for comfort, but this will take time. As she learns she can relax and enjoy the good life, she'll benefit from regular exercise combined with lots of mental enrichment such as food puzzles, snuffle mats, sniffing outings, and learning a few new tricks to fully meet her mental & physical needs, and prevent boredom. Mental enrichment also helps dogs feel less anxious. Dogs who are nervous are often not able to tolerate confinement such as a crate without a lot of preparation and learning the crate is a safe space, but some dogs never do well in a crate. Having a relationhip with a regular vet will help keep Fuzzball healthy. To meet sweet Fuzzball, please come to the shelter on Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri from 12N-3:30 pm, or Saturdays by appointment. ***In Foster--Call to Arrange a Meet.***Andy may be the cutest little guy you have ever seen, but he has some specific needs and we want to take the time to make the right match for him.When he feels safe, Andy is goofy, playful, and happy go lucky like all puppies. He is a total dream when it comes to potty and crate skills! He is very respectful and polite towards his feline and canine foster siblings and is wonderful at sharing food and toys. He is not destructive and knows to play with toys and chew on bones rather than furniture.However, Andy is under-socialized and has some trauma from his past life. He is behind on many of the experiences that other dogs his age would have had by now: going new places, meeting new people, walking on leashâÂ¦ as a result he can be quite fearful and stressed in new situations. He also had some negative experiences with other dogs in the past and hearing barking or interacting with overbearing dogs can be very scary for him. Taking things slowly, and allowing him to set the pace as he decompresses will be extremely important. We are looking for patient and committed adopters who have experience with positive reinforcement, or willingness to learn. His guardian should be ready to go at a slower pace with Andy and recognize that he may not learn new skills in the timeframe typically expected of a puppy. We are also strongly recommending that his adopters reach out to a qualified behaviorist (either Paws of Nature or Pet Behavior Consulting, LLC) to start sessions at home with him. We want to make sure he is set up for success in his new home and has the best help possible to help him overcome his fears and learn that he is safe. The good news is, Andy is so fun, exited to learn, and he LOVES to learn and spend time with his people! We think Andy will do best in a home without young children. We also think he would greatly enjoy life in a more rural/woodsy area away from all the city noise that can be scary for him, but this is not a requirement. Andy will do very well with a neutral, calm, well adjust canine friend who can be a good role model for him. He will also do very well in a home with cats. Providing a combination of regular exercise, combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles, games, and learning new skills and fun tricks will help him build confidence while creating a bond with his people.
