Story
OTHER PETS: Max hasn't seemed to enjoy the company of other dogs very much during his stay at TJO, but he doesn't mind as long as they're just passing by. He would likely be happiest as the only pet in the home, where he can feel safe and secure without the stress of animal interactions. [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Max arrived at TJO with some medical concerns regarding the condition of his skin, and will likely do best with someone that has an established relationship with a vet. Currently his skin is looking much better, though it's still unclear what the main cause of the allergy was. [Some Experience]KIDS: While Max hasn't demonstrated any signs of resource guarding while at TJO, he tends to gently investigate things with his mouth first, and as an older dog can be sensitive to rough handling. He would likely do best in a home with older kids that can understand how to interact with him and when to let him have his own space. Minors should be actively supervised around dogs to be sure everyone is safe and comfortable. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL:Max may be older, but he's still got plenty of spring in his step! He absolutely loves playing with toys--though he doesn't always bring them back--and would love the opportunity to just lay out in the grass on a warm, sunny day. A combination or regular/appropriate exercise combined with mental enrichment will help fully meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: As an older dog, Max will likely need more frequent vet appointments to ensure that he continues to age gracefully. That, along with a possible skin allergy, means that he will likely require above average vet care, and would do best with someone that has an established relationship with a vet. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Max not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner while building confidence and having fun. [Minimal]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]August 20, 2026, 4:53 pm

Story
2 lab sisters Bear (green collar) and Honey (pink collar). Born on 1/22/2025 from 2 pure bred chocolate labs, just couldn’t find dad’s paperwork. Their dad is my mother’s dog. They were recently given back to us by a family member who can no longer care for them. I’ve had them for the past 2 months, but I keep a very busy schedule and can’t care for them as they should be. They had their puppy shots and everything, but unsure if they had their 1 year shots. Would highly prefer to keep them together as they’ve been together since birth, but willing to separate. They’re both high energy and love to run outside together and play. Both play fetch and would be a great addition to any home. Feel free to reach out, so long as you’re educated / experienced with dogs. They ideally need to be exercised daily, very high energy and smart dogs. Want them to go to a good home. Story
Meet Hiccup! A resilient three-year-old Labrador Retriever/American Pit Bull Terrier/Mastiff mix currently in West Hartford, CT, whose gentle heart shines as brightly as his handsome light brown fawn coat. At about 60 pounds, this remarkable three-legged boy has spent the past year healing after arriving at a veterinary hospital with serious injuries. Today, he is healthy, full of life, and ready to begin an exciting new chapter with a patient family who will appreciate everything that makes him so special. Hiccup is the kind of companion who forms deep, lasting bonds with his favorite person. He absolutely lights up when it's time to chase a squeaky toy, proudly bringing it back again and again during a spirited game of fetch! Once the fun is over, you'll usually find him happily stretched across the couch, catching up on well-earned naps while staying close to the people he loves most. His missing front leg never slows his enthusiasm for exploring the yard, enjoying leisurely walks, or learning something new. An incredibly intelligent dog, Hiccup already knows sit, stay, wait, touch, leave it, drop it, crate, stop, find it, and toy. He enjoys training with positive reinforcement and thrives when sessions stay engaging and varied. Because he loves learning, he quickly picks up new skills and enjoys working alongside his favorite human. Hiccup would do well with an experienced pet parent who understands behavior support and is committed to continuing the wonderful progress he has already made. Like many dogs who have experienced significant trauma, Hiccup is reactive to other dogs, barking dogs, moving garbage cans, and the fast, unpredictable movements of young children. Because of his known triggers, Hiccup needs an adult-only home without other dogs or cats, where his environment can remain calm and predictable. He can be cautious with unfamiliar men at first, but thoughtful, dog-aware introductions allow his affectionate personality to shine. Hiccup is house-trained, crate-trained, microchipped, neutered, current on vaccinations, and has no separation anxiety. His sensitive skin and three-legged mobility simply require a little extra awareness, including a home with minimal stairs if possible. Hiccup has so much love, loyalty, and joy to share with the person who welcomes him into their life. Could Hiccup be the devoted companion you've been hoping to find? If you think you could be part of his next chapter, please reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more! Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets.
