Story
Meet Rick! A soulful nine-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever mix currently in Windsor Locks, CT, whose gentle heart and calm spirit make him the kind of companion everyone dreams of. With his sleek charcoal coat, expressive eyes, and 75 pounds of affectionate loyalty, Rick is the definition of a steady and loving friend. Rick is the kind of dog who makes a house feel like a home. He’s house-trained, polite, and thrives in a peaceful environment where he can be close to his people, his favorite place is right by your side! Whether it’s a cozy evening curled up on the couch or a leisurely walk around the neighborhood, Rick is happiest when he’s sharing life’s simple moments with his family. He has a special fondness for stuffed animals and is always up for a stroll, though he’s just as content lounging quietly in good company. Having spent his life in a nurturing family setting, Rick is used to the rhythm of daily life, including calm mornings, evening walks, and lots of love. He’s great with children of all ages, making him a wonderful match for families looking for a steady, emotional support companion. While Rick is friendly with most dogs, he tends to steer clear of dominant males, preferring calm canine company. He hasn’t had experience with cats, so slow introductions would be best. Rick is healthy, neutered, microchipped, and fully up to date on his care. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, and lie down, and while he hasn’t had formal obedience training, his laid-back nature and good manners make him an easy roommate. He handles short periods alone just fine, he’s used to waiting patiently during the workday, but his true joy comes from shared time in the evenings. He does get a bit anxious during thunderstorms or fireworks, so a calm, reassuring environment will help him feel safe and supported. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will greet you at the door, rest his head on your lap, and love you with quiet, unwavering loyalty, Rick might be the perfect match! Could Rick be the steady, loving soul your family’s been waiting for? Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more! Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Story
Meet Gunner! A gentle and loving six-year-old Labrador Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix from Simsbury, CT, whose heart is as big as his 75-pound frame. With his mostly black coat, hints of brindle, and a charming white patch on his chest, he’s a strikingly handsome boy who carries himself with the calm confidence of a true companion dog. Whether he’s lounging by your side or trotting happily on a walk, Gunner’s easygoing nature makes every moment feel warm and effortless. A certified “big teddy bear,” Gunner is the definition of low-maintenance! He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and completely content to relax when left alone—though he’d certainly prefer to be where you are! His favorite activities include leisurely strolls, car rides with the windows cracked just enough to enjoy the breeze, and receiving endless affection. If you’re looking for a dog who will happily follow you from room to room, Gunner is your guy! He’s incredibly friendly with strangers, great with young children, and loves meeting new canine friends. He hasn’t spent much time around cats, but his sweet and gentle nature suggests he’d adjust well with proper introductions. Gunner thrives in a home where he can be part of the daily routine. His schedule is simple—breakfast in the morning, a few potty breaks throughout the day, and dinner in the evening, followed by one last outdoor trip before curling up for bedtime. He isn’t demanding but truly enjoys quality time with his people, whether that means a backyard play session or just lying at your feet while you relax. While Gunner would love to be adopted alongside his brother, Luka, he’s also ready to bring joy to a new family on his own. If you’re searching for a calm, affectionate, and deeply devoted companion, Gunner is ready to be your loyal best friend! Could he be the missing piece in your home? Story
Meet Murphy! A goofy and affectionate two-year-old Labrador Retriever mix currently living in Westminster, MA, whose floppy ears and golden coat are just the beginning of his charm. Murphy is a big-hearted pup (weighing in at 70 pounds) who greets life with playful energy and happy tail wags! He’s a silly guy who often “talks” with little playful noises, making it feel like he’s really trying to communicate with you. He thrives on the simple joys of life like long walks, breezy car rides, chew toys, and full-throttle zoomies in the yard. But don’t let his silly side fool you, Murphy is a smart cookie who responds beautifully to clicker training and is eager to continue learning through positive reinforcement. He’s already mastered sit, lay down, and is working on stay and recall with promising progress. Murphy is wonderfully social with other dogs and would flourish in a home with a confident canine pal to show him the ropes and help him feel secure. Doggie daycare is one of his favorite places, where he truly comes out of his shell. At home, he settles into a steady routine, curling up on his bed or couch for snuggles and quiet time, his version of winding down after a day of play and exploration. Murphy does have some anxiety, especially in unfamiliar or chaotic environments, and has shown fear-based behaviors when feeling trapped. He’s had three incidents where he nipped or bit. Once with a visiting family member entering the home and twice with men in public settings. These moments stemmed from fear, not aggression, and his guardians have worked hard to create structure and help him feel secure. Murphy can be a little nervous around some men, though he does well with many, and has made great progress through consistent training, patience, and love. Because of this, he’ll thrive with a calm, experienced pet parent who understands anxiety and reactivity and can continue supporting his confidence. Slow introductions to new people and surroundings, along with consistency and gentle guidance, will help him blossom. A home without children is recommended. Murphy also benefits from a mindful diet, it's suspected that chicken may contribute to his skin sensitivities, so it has been removed as a precaution, along with regular soothing baths to keep his skin comfortable. With the right care, his golden coat shines almost as brightly as his personality! Are you the kind, dog-savvy companion who can help this smart, sweet, and slightly silly pup thrive in a loving, peaceful home? Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about welcoming Murphy into your family! Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Story
Meet Gypsy! A loving nine-year-old Labrador Retriever currently in Newton, MA, whose calm heart and playful spirit make her the perfect balance of wisdom and joy. Gypsy is that rare gem who brings both serenity and sparkle into every room. At about 45 pounds, she’s the perfect medium-sized girl to join you on strolls through the neighborhood or cozy evenings on the couch. With her sleek black coat and soulful eyes, she radiates gentle confidence and affection. Though she’s in her golden years, don’t let the word “senior” fool you, Gypsy still delights in a good game of fetch or a tug-of-war showdown with her favorite pull toy! Her background as a therapy companion has given her a tender gift for tuning into the emotions of the people around her. She responds to attention with calm joy and a sweet, intuitive focus that will make you feel like the most important person in the world. Gypsy is housetrained, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations, and she has a steady daily rhythm that includes breakfast at 7 a.m., a peaceful morning walk, and dinner at 5 p.m. She knows her basic commands (sit, paw, lie down, stay, leave it, and come here) and she’s eager to learn more through positive reinforcement. Gypsy is friendly with other dogs, wonderfully patient with children, and has never shown challenging behaviors. She takes nightly dental chews and a simple medication to support her dry skin, and she accepts it all with grace and ease. This affectionate girl thrives on connection and routine. She doesn’t mind being left alone for a bit, but her happiest moments come when she’s part of the action, by your side as you go about your day. What she needs most now is a new loving family who will continue the love she’s always known. One who will walk with her, play with her, and invite her into their hearts. Could your home be the next chapter in Gypsy’s journey? Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about this loyal girl ready to share her love!
